It's Chris Sale. This will never not be an issue. He'll come back in a couple months and be a shell of himself. Mercifully we only have a couple years left.

I think it's too soon to say this. He was looking good prior to this. Hitting 97 on the dot consistently.

Gotta hope it's soreness from essentially being injured for 3 years

Jorge Alfaro was one of 5 players today to exercise their opt-out clause. The other 4 players were OF Kole Calhoun ( Yankees ), P Vinny Nittoli ( Cubs ), P Tyler Duffey ( Cubs ) and INF Cesar Hernandez ( Seattle ).

from mlbtraderumors.com:

Veteran catcher Jorge Alfaro has exercised an opt-out in his minor league deal with the Red Sox and is planning to test free agency, reports Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. The Red Sox technically have 48 hours to add Alfaro to the roster before granting him his release. However, manager Alex Cora expressed comfort with current backstops Connor Wong and Reese McGuire last night and implied that the Sox weren’t likely to make any changes behind the plate, so it makes sense that Alfaro will explore other opportunities after a strong start to his season in Triple-A.

Alfaro, 30 next week, has gotten out to a hefty .320/.366/.520 start in Worcester this season. He’s connected on six homers, 13 doubles and even a pair of triples, adding a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts as well. Despite that hot start, Cora’s comments last night seem to suggest that Alfaro’s next big league opportunity won’t come with the Red Sox — at least not at this time. An injury in the next couple days could change that, but otherwise he appears quite likely to return to the market and look for an opportunity elsewhere.

I really like Alfaro. He sucks as a catcher, but he cab rake.

I'd like to see Mcguire go on the IL for 15 days just to see what Jorge can do but alas

If you guys like shitting on Gary Sanchez well let me tell you about the poor man’s Gary Sanchez, Jorge Alfaro

We are talking about a guy who ends up leading the league in passed balls while only catching 60 games. He literally cannot catch a baseball. Can’t play a guy lacking that skill at catcher! It’s literally their one job!

Anyone else wonder why Cora took out Pivetta after he struck out the side in the 7th last night?

Oddity: 4 of the Sox runs were scored by 4 players that didn't have a hit in the game.

Of the players currently playing, Devers is next to last in OBP, first in Slugging.

Wong is last in OBP, 3rd in SLG.

I know, I know. He sucks as a catcher. But man, he can hit. I'd even DH him sometimes, imo. His bat is lethal.

When he makes contact it’s very, very loud. Plus he seems like a fun guy.

At the major level it’s been rough with his approach though- strikes out over 30% of the time and walks less than 5% of the time. So he’s pretty homer dependent

In re: to Pivetta if I had to guess it’s because he was working on back-to-back nights and it’s not something he’s used to…he certainly looks nasty out of the pen though

So Sale basically said something like 'you guys know me, once I know I'll be sitting here telling you how many days/games I'll be out.'

I know what he means but given his history it didn't come off right.
