Never thought I'd see Sale throw 99 again. High hopes.

Didn't like the way Casas watched his blast to center that drove in the go ahead run. Didn't even get out of the box for a couple of seconds.

Even if I still don't completely understand how the robo umps work (different strike zones for each hitter adjusted for size?), but no chance the robots can be worse even if they are not perfect.

Just do it and never look back. Calling strikes is very tough, I don't think you'd find many people doing a better job.

This was a year ago, and the robo umps weren’t exactly accurate. If they performed better, they would have been implemented in MLB. The technology will catch up at some point.

Littell will be coming up, he had an upward mobility clause in his deal and the Sox are willing to give him a shot in the majors

Can’t be worse than Brasier, I imagine he’ll replace Ort though

He was in high school when I was going to college in his town. Had a little local hype back then

There was a man on first tagging, not like he could go anywhere. Very standard stuff.

He may be starting to percolate a little bit. A would-be Grand slam knocked down by the wind a few nights ago. Now another deep fly out. Nice little on-base streak. Really weird season for him so far.

Chronic back issues? Uh-oh.

On the bright side, it's not like the Yankees still owe him another $160 million guaranteed or anything.

Oh, wait...

I believe "thoughts and prayers" is appropriate for the Yankees here.

I guess Casas whole deminer bothers me. He seems overly cocky and watching him admire his long fly ball just reminded me of a Reggie Jackson pose.

Anyone else get this kind of vibe from him?

I mean he really couldn’t do anything other than “admire” it, he’s not allowed to run by Duran and Duran was standing on the bag. I don’t think he’s overly cocky, I just think he’s weird.

Old enough to remember when Red Sox followers used his system eval to make the claim that not only did the major league team suck, but the system sucked too

Casas doesn't know Duran is tagging up when he hits the ball.

As a hitter you should always run hard out of the box. Granted, there are times Devers will admire his shots, but that's when he knows it's gone. Casas ball was not gone, and if it hit off the wall, he would have had 410 foot single.

Maybe he is just weird. Still not a good look.

You mean to tell me you don’t think Casas knows the situation when he’s at the plate? I mean cmon this is silly

He can’t hustle to first on that, if he does Duran is either going to be out for getting passed if the ball is dropped or he is going to be trucked by a moose because he’s standing on the bag lol

Honestly just seems like coming to a conclusion based on a pre-conceived narrative. I missed the AB in real time due to having it on the Celtics and went back to watch and that’s not at all a guy being too cocky and not hustling, I was expecting something way different based on your post. Runner on 1st tagging and going to 2B quite literally explains everything. It’s a nothing play. There is no “bad look” here, it’s merely a great piece of hitting and that is it.

We disagree.

But its not silly.

What's silly is saying he can't hustle to first on that.

no it’s very silly WHEN THERE IS A RUNNER STANDING ON THE BAG TAGGING. I have outlined both reasons why it’s silly and there was no comeback to them. That says it all.

Quite literally every big leaguer does the same thing there. If the ball gets dropped Duran is standing on 2B and Casas is standing on 1B. There’s not a thing that changes that. This is a total reach and smacks of somebody looking for something to criticize.

If I were to criticize Casas I’d say he’s not being aggressive enough in finding the right pitch to square up. He can get on-base well but the quality of contact hasn’t been good so far. Hopefully it’s starting to change with these balls he’s hit the last few games. But I definitely am not going to criticize the kid’s character for not sprinting to first on a deep fly ball when there’s a teammate standing on the bag tagging and there isn’t a player in the league who would’ve done anything differently. All you CAN do on that play is watch. It’s not like he stood at the plate the entire time either.

Edit: small correction of myself, Duran tagged from 3B and it was Kikè who tagged from 1B

So by this thinking if a player grounds one back to the mound there is really no reason to run because he's sure to be out anyway.

The point I am trying to make is that a hitter should run hard out of the box, not stand there and admire his shot. Just because it didn't matter in this case doesn't make it right. What if the ball hits the top of the fence and comes back to the centerfielder. Casas doesn't necessarily make 2nd with his wheel if he does not run hard out of the box.

Casas seems to be an enigma to the fans right now. He’s clearly a weird dude. He does unconventional stuff. He has upside to be really good. He’s struggling and fans are latching on because he catches attention.

He’s been good in the field, walking a lot. He just needs to use his eye to his advantage and starting swinging more.

In that highly improbable event that it goes off the wall it’s better to do what Casas did and get momentum going towards first as the play is happening instead of needlessly sprinting down to just before the bag and coming to a complete stop waiting for Duran/the ball to land and then trying to get 6’5 240 going again. He is not allowed to pass Duran.

Also your other ”point” in the first paragraph doesn’t work because it ignores the fact this was a fly ball with a runner tagging on first, which is the central point of why I’m saying this is totally standard. This situation and a ground ball to the pitcher are not even remotely similar.

I am happy to be wrong about the team so far this year but for the love of god, not this guy. People can hope all they want, the guy is a washed up nothing.

He’s been good in the field
Not according to the advanced metrics. At least that's what they were saying on radio.

He will. Duran did.

Pedroia took time too. We have to be patient.
Not every prospect figures it out. That's the whole thing with prospects.
