I don't think Sale will ever be a top 5 pitcher in the league again, or worth the salary, but he can still be a very effective guy for the last two years of this deal.

Has had HR/command issues through two, which is not shocking given the amount of time missed. But the velocity seems to be there, and he's still getting swinging strikes which is very encouraging.

Assuming health, he probably gives them 160+ innings with a mid 3 ERA.
Yeah, but the assumption that he’ll stay healthy is a pretty big one.

I actually think Sale has the mindset and the stuff to be a pretty good closer. Kinda like John Smoltz at the back end of his career.

Not on this Sox roster, though.…..

Me and @LouJersey been discussing how Adam Duvall defense in RF at Fenway and power would be phenomenal fit here way before the Sox got him

35 bombs 240 average (maybe higher with no foul territory) and superb D was always just sitting there

Great win
I would think it would be more upsetting to those who are obsessed with the prospects and farm system rankings and not those who want the Sox to build a team like they are used to?

I wanted the Mets to get him so bad. He would not have been a regular though so he didn't sign.

I want both, TBH.

But, I think it starts with the farm system. I’m not 100% happy with the past 2 years or so, but if the farm is strong, it allows for more options down the road.

Sure, I’d love them to spend, spend, spend….but that doesn’t guarantee anything, either…see NYY.

Baseball fans have known for a hundred years the warmer the weather the easier it is to hit homeruns. No fan ever would have argued against that obvious and easily understood fact, which is based on simple science.

What exactly is the issue everyone has with this piece?

I used to think those background characters in those natural disaster movies who try to downplay everything were unrealistic. I didn't think people could be that stupid.

You’re giving the fan base way too much credit. Raffy is here because the Red Sox wanted him here and he wanted to be here. It wasn’t because drunken idiot fans booed him.

Yeah I don’t think this ownership group cares all that much about being unpopular
