Pirates played a really clean, pretty much perfect game last night. Had some great pitching and defense. The Sox didn’t. The passed ball on the strikeout really hurt.

Pirates earned that one, they simply were the better team. Cherington is building them up the right way. Incredibly underrated GM. Made some bad FA decisions for the Sox but I don’t blame him entirely for that- at the end of the day they don’t win in 2013 without that weird mix he put together and he laid the foundation for the 2018 team. In Pitt he doesn’t have enough money laying around to make catastrophic FA signings! Perfect situation for him tbh- they’ll have patience

Stop pitching to Bryan Reynolds and dear god plz do not let the Yankees trade for him

Of all the mistakes from Bloom, Schwarber is probably the least of them all. He was the perfect "rental-move" at the time, especially when you have a 1B top prospect like Casas waiting in the wings and so many other "all bat, no glove" DH types. Can we please stop stockpiling these butchers? He had a -18.9 on defense last year on fangraphs.

While I think he lucked out in 13 with these strange 3/39 contracts for average FAs, Cherington was never as bad as he was made out to be. He handed his successor a decent team and most importantly the best farm in baseball, who then traded them all away like it was candy. He botched the 14 deadline as he got too little return for Lester and Lackey, but in retrospect not as bad as Bloom did last years deadline.

I'd be fine if he were to build a solid foundation in Pittsburgh. Team looks like it could be on the rise, but I am afraid it may be more due to the Sox making teams look better than they truly are.

Cherington got a raw deal because Werner wanted Sandoval, and then took the blame when everything didn't work out.

I don't think he was the right guy for the GM job for a team like BOS, but they scapegoated him for stuff out of his control.

@Fenway where is Dennis Drinkwater?

He’s not behind home plate

He still with us ?

I just turned it on so if things really go south blame me
I’m watching Jack Suwinski

He’s the Trent Frederic of the Pittsburgh Pirates

Is there anyone from this "top farm" that we can look back on say "wow we really shouldn't have traded that guy"?

Certainly couldn't blame him if he gave up on this team.

ya gonna need more from this lineup, the last 20 innings or so has been brutal after the hot start to the season

Kluber actually put up a good line but literally no support. But when the bottom of your lineup is Arroyo-Tapia-Chang-Wong, you can't expect much. It's actually more concerning that the top five hitters in the lineup have produced one walk and no hits in two turns around the order.

When you’re on a getaway day and have a weak 6-9 in the lineup you CANNOT have a no-show from 1-5 in the order

Didn’t realize you basically made the same post before me
