I'm sure Red Sox twitter lit up with jokes about Reese having slippery hands after that passed ball

Hell baby
They know how to manufacture runs and put up good AB’s. Very refreshing after all the empty AB’s last year

They let the free swingers sans Devers go and added grinders
Hand up, this is on me

It's still early of course, lots of things could change, but I've been saying all winter long that I actually like the lineup Chaim put together. If Trevor Story were healthy they'd be among the league's top echelon. I definitely understand why some people were pessimistic about the state of the franchise in general, but I couldn't do anything but shake my head when all the Bloom Doomers were trying to act like the lineup was going to be worse. Like did you people remember the lineups last July with Duran, Refsnyder, Franchy, Dalbec, JBJ, Yolmer Sanchez all starting? Come on, man

The line-up appears to be better than anticipated which is good news, but that hasn't been the issue all along. CB had put together one of the worst bullpens you are ever going to see from a Red Sox team last year and despite investing heavy money there, it's still not looking all that great on paper. The rotation is a band aid with so many injury-prones, oldies and unknowns.
But the worst part is: they are probably one of the worst in the league on the basepaths and with the glove. DRS currently has the Sox last (!), so are the HRs given up and SBs allowed.

It's shortsighted in baseball-terms just to look at the line-up and rotation. There is more to it. Yoshida foe example: obviously looks like a fun guy at the plate (he frankly needs to be to be worth the contract) and easy to root for, but he's more of the same of what they already had: A bat-only player.

For a "nerd", Bloom surprisingly doesn't appear to be interested in fundamentals and hidden value (anyone can pay a player based on offensive stats) at all. Otherwise he wouldn't accept this team continuing to be lackluster in the field and on the bases.
