Not the whole fan base did that. And I think the ones who did were wrong. And when an enormous portion of the argument was really just whining that Brady left and “waaah, six Super Bowls isn’t as important as none in four years,” I think there’s an element of foolishness that’s worth cracking wise about.

Not.very.good.

OK Patriots this is the last pre season game. No injuries but let's see some improvement.

We coming for the Eagles

Bad OLine or not, Zappe has zero pocket awareness.
I don't think Mac does either. A play from Vikings game last year still stands out. Mac also has had some bizarre fumbles while losing his mind in the pocket. That's definitely an area I need to see improvement.

There are two potential views on how you interpret Zappe's play this preseason:

1. Zappe has shown he's not a viable NFL quarterback. He's been given chances to play and he cannot consistently get anything done even against weaker competition.

2. The offensive line is still such a dumpster fire that nobody would look good and be effective when they have zero time.

With that being said, both of those are indictments on the GM. He's either constructed a deeply flawed roster that isn't capable of keeping a quarterback upright, or the talent he's chosen is simply not good enough to actually play in this league.

Neither scenario is a positive.

Mac vs. Zappe last year had nothing to do with Tom Brady. It had to do with Mac Jones being awful. If you tell me Mac won't be awful and Zappe has regressed then give me Mac. Give me Cunningham running the Wing T offense. I couldn't care less who the QB is as long as he doesn't play like a brain dead moron.

This team could go 6-11 :help:
Could?

If that happens I think Belichick is gone. This team won the Super Bowl only 4 seasons ago, and the transition from you-know-who was completely botched. A putrid offensive line; high draft picks wasted on special teamers; and a scouting department that can’t draft a good wide receiver adds up to a terrible squad that Bill Belichick can’t coach to the playoffs.

There is no one to blame but him.

Tom pulled his fat out of the fire a hundred times. No security blanket anymore. If this season is a bust, time for a new direction.

A "bye" week next week is probably good for the Patriots as they need to do whatever they can to put a healthy OL on the field against the Eagles. With that said, the NFL schedule offends me. Most people on here say the preseason doesn't matter when things look bad and it is truly an awful product to watch. I prefer to the buildup to college football. No preseason games to be bored by just that excitement of the season looming and then boom you have real games. The NFL should be starting next weekend. Going from preseason to then a bye week before a real football game is the worst scheduling build up for excitement I can think of.

The reason they aren’t starting next weekend is that several years ago, they decided to stop having opening day over Labor Day weekend. Fewer people in front of their TVs. I’m glad I don’t have to choose between a cookout this Sunday and the Patriots. I’d be spending it in front of the tube. The weekend after is better.

I AM on board with scraping the “preseason” altogether.

And while we’re at it… let’s push the Super Bowl up a couple of weeks to President’s Day Weekend. Add another regular season game and a second bye week.

Why not? Personally, I didn’t think there was anything wrong with 16, but having this odd number is foolish. Whether 16 or 18, it should be an even number.

Because the NFL season is already long enough (and was at 16 games). The league now demands you watch three days a week and screwed up the first round of the playoffs by adding another game on an extra day. It's just too much.

The new playoff format sucks. I certainly agree with you there. Truth be told, everything was fine the way it was. It seems they’ve been talking to the NHL and have decided to start fixing things that were never broken.

Patriots need the C to right side healthy

Andrews, Onwenu and T Brown are a plus if on field

Also not sure what’s going on with Strange but the other alternative is build the best interior: G-C-G

You can’t have pressure everywhere and on edge you can spot a TE and shade Zeke there on obvious passing downs

The similarities between how the Red Sox starting pitching and Patriots OLput together depending so much on health, inexperience, and old one time good guys (Kluber & Reiff) who are toast is not smart

Hey guys not sure if this is the proper thread. I have fantasy football drafts starting tomorrow but I hardly follow nowadays.

Who are your must haves and where are you targeting them?

Who should you avoid?

I like Ekeler and Chubb early. J Conner and D Johnson middle rounds.

I don’t know much though.

The 49ers' original draft slot that year wound up being Micah Parsons. It is going to go down as one of the worst trades in history.
In hindsight, yes, but at the time the decision was made, I still think the Bears trading up for Mitch Trubisky was worse, but we are splitting hairs....

Not only that, but if you look at the draft picks/trades as a result of that initial deal, it's wild.

Houston ends up with Tunsil
Dolphins end up with Waddle, Tyreek Jill, and Bradley Chubb
Philly ends up with Devonta Smith
Dallas ends up with Parsons.
And we got...uh...Cole Strange

JV team puts up less than 100 yards in last pre-season game.
JV O line crumbles in less than 2.7 secs on most downs without creating running gaps.
JV QB's look like division 3 guys on a bad day.

Putting bets on the over:under of the Varsity team is like Russian Roulette at this stage. Who the heck knows if it will be a 11-6 or 6-11 type year as there has been zero consistency across the groups so far.

Going to be an interesting "statement" game with Philly for sure. Just that we may need a secret decoder ring to understand what that "statement" really means because nobody (possibly Bill included) knows what this team has at this stage...

So "un Patriot" like it is mind boggling.

I think many on here forget how good Mac's rookie season was. So full of promise. He set NFL records, lest we forget?

Last year was a lost year for everyone because of Bill. Give the kid an opportunity to recapture the rookie year and let him cook.

Acting like he's "been mid" is simply not true

Fair enough. Watching 2 seasons so far and trying to imagine the horror of a Patricia / Judge calling the offence, it still feels like he (Jones) could be something between a Garropolo "lite" and a Luck "lite". That's a broad spread and I think many (myself included) are simply concerned a Gumby armed Jones will not recognise NFL pockets don't hold 3+ seconds and you need to play to what is there vs. what you would "want" to be there which isn't...

If you don't "get that" as a QB (not you but Jones) you won't last and there is no way in hell (IMO) BB is going to cave to Mac Jones given he refused to accommodate TB in a non dink and dunk game for the majority of his career despite being the undisputed best QB in the history of the friggin game...

His arm isn't the best, but it's good enough to be successful in this league.

3800 yards, 22 TD's in his rookie year. 2nd in OROTY voting behind Chase.

Click this video. Doesn't show up on here but I highly recommend it

I think at his best he is an above average game manager type. The ball is back in his court now. I don't wanna hear about a subpar OL or weapons. Even if both are true it's time for Mac to show some leadership and elevate guys around him.

I don't disagree in principle.

To use a MLB analogy, he's throwing a 93 MPH heater with good placement.

He's not fooling anyone with the velocity so the margin for error is smaller than someone who can throw 97+ and get that foul off the bat when placement isn't perfect.

That means he needs top tier timing, WR route running, OL/TE blocking, etc, etc... to compensate for the 1%-2% delta between good and great.

He's not chopped liver by any means, but his arm sure as hell ain't foie gras....

I'm not discounting him or the team this year because frankly who the hell knows given their Jeckyll and Hyde performance so far. I hope they all do great - it's just stunning to see a BB team coming into the season once again with no identity.
