I rather doubt Hathaway was told anything anyone else on the roster wasn't told, which was, "Don't expend energy after the whistle. Play between the whistles." How often did you hear this last from players during the series?
Nonsense.
Ostensibly, I get the idea. However, even within those whistles, the B's were manhandled.
Mystifying.
You can blame the players for terrible play on almost every level. That's fair as far as it goes.
What you can't do is tell me JIm Montgomery isn't 90% responsible for a jaw dropping series of astonishingly poor decisions that, unquestionably, cost the Bruins the series.
To me, there's no other way to look at it.
As noted in the immediate aftermath of the fiasco, Jim Montgomery better learn from his misjudgment this season, and assuming there is one, any playoff run.
He deserved a second chance last season, and with qualms from this corner, he should get another chance this year.
At present and going forward, the jury is out.
And if Montgomery doesn't get it together, he'll be out, too.
