I think it's more of a question if you are better served sacrificing from the 2nd line to make sure your d-zone heavy 3rd line is solid. Hall might have put up more points on the Krejci line last year than Zacha, but the Bruins were better served giving the 3rd line more help.
I get your point, and you may be correct. But Marchand-Zacha-Debrusk is worse than last year's 1st line, xxx-Geekie-Pasta is MUCH worse than last year's 2nd line... at that point is having an only "kinda worse" 3rd line really that important?

JVR-Geekie-Frederic, for instance, is a 3rd line that will be skating in mud.
True, you could put Boqvist on that line instead of JVR if that helps, but your point is a good one. Unfortunately signing JVR and Lucic as 2 of their LWs severely impacts how fast they can be. You can protect them by having other faster guys on their line which will helps, but also may mean that they can't keep up with their linemates. The Lucic signing is wonderful for nostalgia and social media, but a younger, faster puck hound may have been a better choice... or not signing JVR.

No. It's a thread about how many magic beans fans think bottom-6 talent on the Bs are eating over the summer.

Nah it’s about whether or not having Frederic leading the whole bottom six is going to work or if you need to spread what little talent you have. They need a #1C from outside the org and that ain’t happening right now. You need DeBrusk, Marchand and Pasta getting offensive opportunities. So are you better served having Geekie or Frederic being in charge of tough shutdown minutes or keeping Coyle there and putting someone in the top six that really shouldn’t be there. I don’t think anyone is arguing they WANT Geekie or Merkulov in the top six, just saying it might be the best piece of dog shit.

Seriously, how many posts project any player on the Bruins to have any improvement next year? Any player. And this isn’t limited to this off-season - it’s every year. It’s baffling.
I don't think it's that rare. There's a thread on point projections, and lots of people are expecting Coyle, Geekie, Boqvist, DeBrusk, etc to show improvement. Personally, I picked JDB to have a big year because it's a contract season. I picked Coyle to have a big year because I expect him to play with Marchand. Conversely, I expect Marchand to have a down year because he's playing with Coyle. I expect Pasta to have a down year because he's no longer in a contract year, and no Krejci at even strength, no Bergeron on the PP...

Detroit has the option of sending their own 2024 1st or Boston's 2024 1st. If Boston's is top 10, then Detroit has the option of sending their own 2024 1st or Boston's 2025 first.
I've gotta say Dom, we're very lucky to have your expertise here.

From Cap Friendly: "Conditions: Detroit has the option to send their own or Boston's 2024 1st round pick. In the event the Bruins' 2024 1st round selection is a top-10 pick, Boston can retain the pick and transfer their 2025 1st round pick instead. Detroit will then have the option of sending Boston's 2025 unprotected 1st or their own 2024 1st to Ottawa."

Pretty much what I said no?

People here tend to look at anything good last year as an outlier, or at least a players ceiling, if the player is on the Bruins. And have a hard time projecting any kind of improvement or jump in play due to development or role. No one here (including myself) would have projected Zacha as a top 6 Player - much less a center - a year ago. How many expected a top 5 Norris season from Lindholm? Imagine being the guy pounding the table for Lauko this time last year (I certainly wasn’t).

You might want to go look at the point projections thread. 75% of the posts are projecting Coyle and everyone under the age of 30 to have a career year.

With this lineup there are going to be at least two players who shouldn't be in the top 6 playing in the top 6 no matter who you put where. Only Pasta, Marchy, Zacha and DeBrusk are top 6 players.

One of Coyle or Zacha will become the new whipping boy. To take DTG's quote I say...

Book it.
