I didn't know Gary Bettman was Batman.

He’s the hero this league deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

I think Zacha will surprise as a decent 1C. I love Charlie but he's a 3C.

I'm very intrigued to find out what The Geek can bring. Honestly, I know next to nothing about him, save that he had limited minutes in Seattle because there were established center's in front of him. 6'3" 192 pds, just 25 years old.

2 mill X 2years tells me Sweeney and Co. see something I haven't. Yes, could be a swing and a miss, but I'm interested to see what happens.

It's possible -- possible -- that he wins the 2C job.
We will not know unless he is given a chance , if he can do the job what terrific fine.........

He's certainly the "hero" the league deserves!

He'll be given a chance. They all well. It seems to me the door is wide open. The log jam has been removed.

The older guys were signed as Band-Aids, and to provide competition for the young players. If they prove their value, I can't imagine they won't get a chance.

This may be oversimplifying things.

1st of all Seattle is deep at center especially if Wright is ready which expected.

2nd Geekie went to arbitration last year , perhaps some bad blood there.

3rd pretty sure Seattle hasn't been around long enough to support your statement. For one it's a small sample size and then what is it that has impressed you because I don't see it over here?
Like you said, deep at the C position. If people think he is a possible 2-3 he has value, so you sign him and trade him if you have to many centres. Well they made the playoffs in year 2 and were impressive in doing so

Ya, sign and trade is the logical option however, given the post covid trade market a player who has proven nothing has little value. The league is full of bottom 6 F who but up 30 points. What teams are looking for is top 6 F. I would be surprised if Seattle didn't try to shop him.

Now it could be telling that there were no takers but with so many teams capped out, maybe not.

So what if they made the PO's in year two. Vegas made the finals in year 1.
The expansion draft rules were rigged to make teams competitive from the hop.

Wouldn't you make Wright earn his spot and if need be trade Geekie ?

I don't know much about the Wright thing but it's complicated and relatively rare.

The KrackaLack definitely want this kid and they'll do whatever they can to make it happen.

My understanding is that because Wright is an age exception (sic) he likely has to go back to _______ before he can "legally" join the NHL club,

Yes.

It used to take at least five years for an expansion club to become a legitimate competitor, never mind contender.

Not any more, which is both a good thing and a borderline unfair thing.

It just means there is so much talent they can add whole new teams and they are contenders. There are more good hockey players than roster positions.

Yes, but you have to admit, for reasons of their own, financial reasons of course, the owners have created a more or less stacked deck for expansion teams. And by the way, supposedly there are two more coming down the pike.

All About the Benjamins.

The cost of getting a new franchise was the driver. It cost LV half a billion dollars just to get a franchise, which fee was split among the other owners. Seattle’s was even higher. IIRC, the Vegas buyers basically said we are not investing half a billion to suck (like the Caps, who won 8 games their first season). As you said, all about the Benjamins. The owners were happy to take the immediate payout and give up some players to make the franchise instantly viable.

✔️

PS I remember when the Caps came into the league in '74. Canadians *lost*
eight regular season games in '76-'77.

It's what betters the odds of survival. Expansion teams toiling at the bottom of the standings for years on end doesn't do much for drawing interest.

That's true. I actually like the fact that contemporary expansion teams can credibly compete with established clubs almost immediately.

Again, however, the motive is money. I see a sixty team NHL in ten years!

Hope Hamilton gets one. I’m from Toronto. another team that could potentially sell tickets for less than $200 each would be neat.
