In no way shape or form is it riggedto win a cup or go to the finals. Vegas was brilliant and Seattle did a great job.

Seems like the players are doing ok
Vegas paid 500M and Seattle paid 650M for a franchise , they didn't pay those prices to toil at the bottom of the standings the way every expansion team that came before them did.

The rules were rigged so that they would be competitive in short order. Vegas , because they came 1st , had GM's overreacting and giving up way more than they should, so that explains them. GM's learned from that and didn't repeat the nonsense when it was Seattle's turn., that explains why they were slightly less successful.

None the less with 30 teams to chose from your going to get some good players plus high end draft picks don't hurt either. It used to be that teams could protect 9 forwards , 5 defensemen and 2 goalies, do you think either Vegas or Seattle would have been successful if they had drafted by those rules? Not a chance . Nor would GM's have been overreacting and giving away way more than they should with those rules.

That's true. I actually like the fact that contemporary expansion teams can credibly compete with established clubs almost immediately.

Again, however, the motive is money. I see a sixty team NHL in ten years!
Follow the dollar, it explains any question you might have. 60 teams in 10 years? I really don't see that.

I was all for a franchise in Hamilton back in the 90s, and would love to see the Nordiques back in Quebec.

TO being the 800-pound gorilla that poops golden eggs as an afterthought means, alas, that there will likely never be another NHL franchise in Ontario.

Quebec? Nah. The "market" is too small. Not enough revenue, never mind the bat sh*t crazy passion of Quebecers for their hockey. (And I mean that in the nicest possible way. Sort of.)

No, let's give Atlanta another doomed expansion team (third time's the charm!) that no one who lives there will ever give a fig about, or, rumor has it, Houston Arrows Redux.

Now, why?

Why do you think?

That's an easy one .

Toronto doesn't want Hamilton

Montreal doesn't want Quebec

There is a reason why those are the top money earning franchises.

That is an exaggeration.

Just.

G and D easily better then going into last season

They lost Clifton who in his last 4 periods in playoffs he played gave up 11 goals
This doesn't make sense. According to Natural Stat Trick, Clifton was on ice for 5 goals against in the whole series.
Maybe you mean Orlov who was on ice for 11 against, but that would have been in 7 games, not 4 periods. Or maybe you mean Carlo who was on ice for 10 against.

EDIT: Did the math, apparently 5 = 11

Those trades made a difference in defense. It threw their rotation and tandems off. They weren’t as good after the TD. That’s the way the ball rolls. Unintended effect. My opinion of course.

I'm curious if Freddy will get some looks between Marchy and Debrusk? He did pot 17 goals last season playing 3rd line minutes. I don't think it'd be a stretch to say he could get 20-25 with those two line mates. Something to think about!

I'm really curious who's going to be playing with Pasta and Zacha?

Bruins haven't announced Gruden's replacement yet. There's no way they are going into the season with only 2 assistant coaches. Wonder who they bring in.

Toronto AND Buffalo are uneasy about Hamilton.

Quebec? Montreal doesn't really care about Quebec. It's Jacobs whose blocking Quebec City. He blurted the silent part out loud back in the day when he said something to the effect of "Quebec City's a small market. The owners don't want to go to small markets. Why the hell would we put a team back there when we already have their money from nostalgia merch?" To which Bettman immediately had to put out a fire created by Jacobs and saying how he doesn't speak for the other 29 owners, despite the fact that he essentially does as they feel the same way and never disputed those comments once.

Most likely JVR with Pasta and Zacha. I’d be interested in potentially seeing Lucic there despite him being older he may be able to create some more space if he can keep up.

I doubt Freddy gets a look on that line. I’d say Geekie would have a better shot. I like Fredrick and have been one of the handful defending him here. I think that 17 goals is going to be a career high for him for the next couple of years at least.

Why would Geekie get it over Frederic? Freddy had 17 goals last season to Geekie's 9. Putting up 17 goals while getting 3rd line minutes, sometime 4th line minutes is pretty good. I'd give him a look there but realistically, it's going to be Marchy-Coyle-Debrusk

I actually can picture Freddy on the LW with Zacha and Pasta. There is a bit of young Milan Lucic in his game.

I cannot see Freddy in a top 2 center role. Just does not have the playmaking.

Most likely, I picture Freddy in the RW with Geekie at center and either Lucic of Boqvuist (and maybe Merkulov) at LW.

I have no idea. All I know is rookie camp is 3 weeks away, coaches meetings being soon, and there are still decisions to be made on the defence and the powerplay.

I for one am anxiously waiting for them to make an announcement on who will be involved in those areas so some real discussion can take place.
They know we don’t

Sweeney for all we know does it when they announce Marchand is Captain

Biggest reason is beacuse Frederic is horrible at faceoffs. They can't have a top 6C with a 33% faceoff success rate. Merkulov, Geekie, and then Coyle in that order would be my preferred Bruins' top 6C candidates.

Frederic hasn't taken enough face-offs in the NHL to be considered good or bad at them...

Frederic's at 44% for 300 career face-offs, Zacha isn't much better at 46%, and he's taken over 3,000 face-offs.
