That's true. I actually like the fact that contemporary expansion teams can credibly compete with established clubs almost immediately.

Again, however, the motive is money. I see a sixty team NHL in ten years!
These "GREEDY OWNERS " have ruined sports , not that they should not make money BUT............

Hope Hamilton gets one. I’m from Toronto. another team that could potentially sell tickets for less than $200 each would be neat.

I was all for a franchise in Hamilton back in the 90s, and would love to see the Nordiques back in Quebec.

TO being the 800-pound gorilla that poops golden eggs as an afterthought means, alas, that there will likely never be another NHL franchise in Ontario.

Quebec? Nah. The "market" is too small. Not enough revenue, never mind the bat sh*t crazy passion of Quebecers for their hockey. (And I mean that in the nicest possible way. Sort of.)

No, let's give Atlanta another doomed expansion team (third time's the charm!) that no one who lives there will ever give a fig about, or, rumor has it, Houston Arrows Redux.

Now, why?

Why do you think?

G and D easily better then going into last season

They lost Clifton who in his last 4 periods in playoffs he played gave up 11 goals

Sweens loaded up right side with Shattenkirk who will be an upgrade in Monty mind and the 3 of Mitchell Regela & Walsh

I watched Walsh & Mitchell and like both - we will see how plays out

D/G spending a little time looking over I’d go 1 but if you love Shestyorkin you could make a case for Rangers but they are overrated

At worst 3 to avoid an argument but I don’t see anyone that close

What am I missing between the lines here?
They probably did it 5 weeks ago

This is how they operate

Ya, sign and trade is the logical option however, given the post covid trade market a player who has proven nothing has little value. The league is full of bottom 6 F who but up 30 points. What teams are looking for is top 6 F. I would be surprised if Seattle didn't try to shop him.

Now it could be telling that there were no takers but with so many teams capped out, maybe not.

So what if they made the PO's in year two. Vegas made the finals in year 1.
The expansion draft rules were rigged to make teams competitive from the hop.
In no way shape or form is it riggedto win a cup or go to the finals. Vegas was brilliant and Seattle did a great job.

Seems like the players are doing ok

So unofficially those in the know know the deal?
I have no idea. All I know is rookie camp is 3 weeks away, coaches meetings being soon, and there are still decisions to be made on the defence and the powerplay.

I for one am anxiously waiting for them to make an announcement on who will be involved in those areas so some real discussion can take place.

Yes.

It used to take at least five years for an expansion club to become a legitimate competitor, never mind contender.

Not any more, which is both a good thing and a borderline unfair thing.
Best thing the NHL has done in a while. Pay close to a billion dollars for a new team and have them compete to help grow a fan base. Vegas is a big time money maker. Good for every one.

Oh ok. Thought there was some subtlety there that it’s already been decided just most of us don’t know.

I have heard Mougenel and McQuaid from within the organization have interviewed as well as 2 people from outside the org.
I just have been walking around assuming it will be McQuaid. But not without any conviction. Would be concerned about the PP in that case.

Everything has a ripple down effect.

If its Mougenel, what happens in Providence. Kind of late in the offseason to be looking for a head coach?

McQuaid? Alain Bissonnette who was instrumental in drafting Frederic Brunet has made it clear that its McQuaid's decision on whether he signs and turns pro or not. Is it a McQuaid promotion that hasn't happened yet?

As for the pp, will Sacco run the pk and the pp? I guess they could give the pk to McQuaid but he has zero coaching experience.

Yeah it's just an assistant coaching job. But a lot of questions to be answered.

Yeah I don’t minimize this at all. I do assume they have figured this out already but maybe that’s me being naive.

I do wonder if Gruden takes the Marlies job if the D performed better in the playoffs. I get that it’s a head knocker job in the A but I do wonder how things went there with not being able to settle on a 6 and the poor job in games 5-7.

So Donny plan is to play air tight D with super duper goaltending with a black hole at center position. Interesting strategy. Let's see if it works I'm not a fan of it.
Centre by committee. He added some guys who can win draws. And maybe a prospect steps up. Zacha is a #2 centre i think. Some younger centres added too. I think they will be fine.
