Possible PTO's,

Potential Bruins PTO Targets

When looking at the Bruins’ roster, it is fair to say that it could use more forward depth. Yes, they need a top-six center desperately, but it also would not hurt to explore some potential bottom-six options, too. As a result, a few professional tryout contract (PTO) targets who could make sense for them to consider include Colin White, Paul Stastny, and Pius Suter.

White, 26, is a Massachusetts native who has had past success in the NHL but also saw his production drop noticeably in 2022-23. In 68 games with the Florida Panthers, he had eight goals and 15 points. Yet, when noting that he had 10 points in 24 games the season before and a 41-point campaign in 2018-19, he stands out as a possible bounce-back candidate.

Stastny, 37, could be a center to take a look at on a PTO. The veteran center posted nine goals and 22 points in 73 games for the Carolina Hurricanes this past season but also had 45 points in 71 with the Winnipeg Jets the season before. If signed, he could be a decent addition to their bottom six and would give the Bruins more experience and leadership.

Suter, 27, is also an intriguing player who could be worth taking a chance on. He offers great versatility, being able to play all three forward positions. In 79 games this past season with the Detroit Red Wings, he had 14 goals to go along with 24 points. Although it was a down year for him offensively, his defensive game improved significantly, and he emerged as a solid penalty-killer in the process.

All three seem like good C depth possibilities to me. They can't have too much depth at C.

I hope they get a sniff.
There is my paul stastny just waiting to get plucked. Hurry Donny do it.

Pass

Thatsa because no GM's are dumb enough to mortgage two years with of future draft assets and dip $4.5m into future cap for one season.
I don’t recall you or anyone complaining about him at the deadline. Complaining about it now is weak. If he hadn’t gone all in (and we lost) people would have complained that if ever there was a time to go for it, it was last year.

Sometimes you lose. It happens.

I would much rather give the kids a chance....if there is ever a time for it, it's now

Alternatives?
well none of these guys are game changers for this year.....so how about try merulov, mclaughlin, beecher and see what is there with them

I very much agree, though for whatever reason I wasn't thinking about that.

Georgie is a long shot.

I'm a fan of Marc McLaughlin and predict he'll make the club, if not right out of camp, soon enough.

Beecher... I don't know. What I know is that he's big and he can really fly for a guy his size. I don't know what his offensive upside is, which doesn't bother me. What I'm looking for is responsible two-way play, and my understanding is that's what he's been asked to work on. in PRO. I wish him well.

I'm looking forward to finally seeing what the prospects have, without the log jam. What Geek Squad has. And what Frederic is, at long last.

It will be an interesting season. I hope it will be fun, too.

Bridge me, baby!

Beecher and McLaughlin.

The latter.

Not sure about the former.

I am more interested in Beecher getting a shot too see what he can do , McLaughlin does nothing for me...........

McLaughlin is the kind of player I value.

He won't dazzle, but he'll be where he should be positionally. He'll be responsible. He won't cheat, and he'll "play the game the right way." You probably won't notice him much, unless you appreciate unglamorous but intelligent hockey.

I want to see what Beecher can do, too. I'm still iffy on him, though I haven't followed his progress, or lack thereof. He's had a bit of bumpy ride with injury, going back to U of M. In 61 games last season, he was 9-14-23. Not terrible, not eye popping.

Again, I care more about a center's three zone game. Beecher doesn't need to be a prolific scoring threat. He needs to set up others and play an overall, responsible game. HE's 6'3" and apparently has excellent speed/stride for someone his size. I don't know what his "hockey IQ" is, but hope he's got a fair amount of it, and is coachable.

Would pass on any of those PTO guys and give some of the younger players a shot like McLaughlin and Merkulov. I still think Beecher could use some more time developing his offense in the A

I would look at grabbing John Farinacci once he is eligible to sign...if a couple of those guys are bouncing back and forth they could use a little more depth at center in Providence

Sorry lads if this is the wrong place to ask about this, but I got a question concerning the youth hockey in the Boston area.

In short, I came across a documentary on youtube concerning St. Mary's of Lynn Spartans in high school Massachusetts hockey. I have quite enjoyed the documentary as it is actually pretty well done and I like watching series with youth or junior players. However, when I am watching I am utterly confused because I don't have a clue how high their league is. A big part is because I know that Massachusetts have a ton of prep teams as well and in the video, it says that Austin Prep left their conference to join the rest of the prep teams.

So, I am curious how good the league the Spartans play in. Are the Spartans a historic team or are they just an above-average organisation? Additionally, do top players want to play for teams in the same league as St. Mary's or do better players always choose the prep high schools instead? Anything else I should know about Massachusetts high school hockey/St. Mary's/Prep leagues/etc.?

Again, I don't know what is going on with DK46.

What I do think is that if you're going to put something out there, you best check the European sports coverage, because a lot of times what a Euro players is saying there, it doesn't match what is being "reported" here.

I'm old. I'm tired and don't want to do other people's homework for them.

I do wonder though, if that story I quoted was read first, if the rumor of his retirement would have still been put out there?
You just made Don The Godfather very very happy.

I agree.

Sweeney would have been roasted here like, well, a weenie if he hadn't gone "all in." He did excellent work picking up Orlov, Hathaway and Bertuzzi. Some of his best ever moves, imho.

In no way do I blame DS for the first-round fiasco.

And it was a fiasco.

90% of the responsibility, in myriad fashion, rests at the feet of Jim Montgomery.

I don't see how you can look at it any other way.
I want monty gone.

So I think it's time to face facts here:
1. We are building from the net out. Top 3 goalie tandems in the NHL and top 5 d-core in the NHL.
2. Our wingers are still very good in Pasta-Marchy-Debrusk.........we still are a top 6 winger short though, it'll be interesting if they load up with Marchy-Zacha-Pasta as a line 1 or spread the wealth and hope someone steps up in camp.
3. Zacha-Coyle-Geekie-Frederic would likely be rated between 20-32 overall in terms of skill/depth. Donnie has some serious work to be done, but maybe Poitras or Merkulov surprise at camp?
4. I, like many of you, likely envisioned this year as a one last go for it year but it looks like it'll be a transition year. I think they're WC1-2 type of team.
5. As much as I'd like to grab Lindholm this season, I keep all my assets that be required to get him and turn my attention to locking him up long term next July, hoping he gets there of course.
6. Predicition: 45-30-7

A lot of blame for montgomery going around.

The players had a 3-1 lead and 3rd periods leads in games 6 and 7. Also went into the 3rd period tied in game 5.

They players choked that away.
The only thing I put on him is that the change to Swayman has to happen earlier.

Aside from that, I put the series on Ullmark and the entire D group except for Carlo being terrible those last 3 games. So many unforced turnovers just passing the puck to nowhere.

I’d love to see the kids get a real shot this year. I remember the anti Felger commercial from the last time we let that happen.

Lohrei, Lysell, Merkulov should hopefully get some serious reps and fill some holes.

I’d like to see Lohrei in a 2nd pairing spot if we dish Gryz—which idk that we do at this point.

I see a hole at top six winger and 1/2C (obv) and I wonder if Lysell and Merkulov could be serviceable.

Unless the Flames are going to give up a lot for a little I don’t see a way we can get a bonafide 2way 1C from trading right now.
