My take is it's ridiculous to say a hockey GM is judged by whether or not the franchise is profitable.

If you agree with me, fine.
If you don't then yeah I guess you are saying NYR, TOR and MTL GMs are better than BOS Gms.

Which is why the take I was responding has it all wrong.
I agree we disagree or we are both missing a point somewhere along the way. All good.

Sorry lads if this is the wrong place to ask about this, but I got a question concerning the youth hockey in the Boston area.

In short, I came across a documentary on youtube concerning St. Mary's of Lynn Spartans in high school Massachusetts hockey. I have quite enjoyed the documentary as it is actually pretty well done and I like watching series with youth or junior players. However, when I am watching I am utterly confused because I don't have a clue how high their league is. A big part is because I know that Massachusetts have a ton of prep teams as well and in the video, it says that Austin Prep left their conference to join the rest of the prep teams.

So, I am curious how good the league the Spartans play in. Are the Spartans a historic team or are they just an above-average organisation? Additionally, do top players want to play for teams in the same league as St. Mary's or do better players always choose the prep high schools instead? Anything else I should know about Massachusetts high school hockey/St. Mary's/Prep leagues/etc.?

Nobody answered this, so I'll give it a shot. St. Mary's of Lynn Hockey is in the CCL (Catholic Central League), It's a competitive conference, but not as prestigious as the Catholic Conference, where you find hockey heavyweights, like Catholic Memorial, St. John's Prep, Xaverian or BC High.

Though in reality, things are changing in Mass High School Hockey. Gone are the days where the state championship was going to a Catholic Conference team every year. Matter of fact, my nephew's town school made to to the Super 8 a few years past, and were ranked #1 last season. Other town teams like Hingham and Wellesley (which have unlimited budgets due to being wealthy towns) are also competitive.

Here's last year's Division 1 rankings, you can click on a school and see which league they play in:

Bear is out for 6-9 months.

I have no interest in taking a single rep in camp away from a kid much less any preseason game time for any of the rest of those guys to be honest.

Thank you! One follow-up question I have is Division 1 with St. Mary's is it better or worse than New England Prep hockey league? New England Prep Hockey Standings 2022-23

Like if you are a good player, would you rather play for a team like BC High, Xaverian, etc? Or would you rather join somebody like Noble & Greenough, Belmont Hill, Cushing, etc.?

The only thing I put on him is that the change to Swayman has to happen earlier.

Aside from that, I put the series on Ullmark and the entire D group except for Carlo being terrible those last 3 games. So many unforced turnovers just passing the puck to nowhere.

Why is Carlo exempt? He had a couple terrible turnovers at bad times and was part of the D pairing that was on the ice for the series clincher. If you want to say he was the best of a keystone cops corp, well he doesn't escape unscathed.

Lately they are comparable, The CC teams don't have the clout they once had. Too much competition for the $$ to go around. Heck, within walking distance of my home is this monster complex:

It's a hockey based high school. Not just a high school with hockey, but a hockey based high school.

Sorry G-Dub, just wanted to put this in here:

“Technically, this was the best financial outcome we could have. We hosted Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, but don’t have to pay for a parade, a victory party or championship rings!”

after the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.

BTW, 35% of all playoff revenue goes to the league, not the teams.

Meh, if you give a guy on a PTO a pre-season game or two I don't see a big deal. If it's not working then release them.

I would give Bear and Erne a look. Maybe Heinen can get a tryout with the Maine Mariners?

Would also give Austin Watson and Simon Benoit looks. Benoit would make a nice 7th D and Watson would look good in Providence

dont hold out hope that the Center position is going to get fixed next Offseason. These players dont go to UFA (Tavares was literally such a big deal because it never happens).

Winning and Weather will probably have Jack stay in the desert as well. "a 1c ain't walking through that door"

Geekie will be a lot more impactful than most project, I think, and hope.
I have been saying that , just maybe he could be a solid signing and a no brainer by Sweeney , Bogvist might be a similar signing , both player are young and I might be wrong but I think might be contributors to this team. You gave up nothing to sign and their contracts are a big help to the cap problem....

My son plays on a Lovell team (95 Giants) and we’re excited to have the opportunities that come with it. Sadly, if he’s good enough, that will almost certainly mean NOT playing for his HS team. At this point in MA and RI, many of the better players stick to their club teams because the HS competition isn’t strong enough.

Paul stastny too he can still play and put up points . Excellent 2nd line center to seal. Put coyle back on third and give more depth.
