Not necessarily...if Bussi is ready he could replace him at less than a million. You could always get a goalie back in a trade as well. Let's say Buffalo is going for it and they don't want to rely on Levi as a rookie so they trade a 1st + Luukkonen for Ullmark. There are a ton of possibilities.

Now Buffalo has cap space so I don't think they would have to retain but I just pointed that out as a worst case scenario if somehow Ullmark isn't valued as a 1st rounder by the TDL. It's exactly what the Blackhawks did to get a 1st rounder out of McCabe and then some.

If you have to eat 2.5 million of dead cap by retaining on Ullmark for one season but used that 1st rounder to get Elias Lindholm and locked him up then thats a win-win to me.

I think this year would be better served seeing what the prospects have at the nhl level and hope for a top 5 pick to grab a high potential C prospect. Then they try to grab a UFA C in free agency next year and their retool is essentially done in 2 years.

What do you think are the chances Buffalo isn’t on Ullmark’s NTC and why isn’t it 0%?

Sure there's time but no cap space. We're payin' the piper for the going away party that the B's held for Bergy (the 2022, '23 season and playoffs).
They tried to send him off with another Cup (as we know).

Now the bill has come due.
*Because chef Montgomery lost the recipe so what he cooked up
made his players sick.

That's about a year premature but maybe ridding out the season , take stock at TDL , sign the best 1C in FA.

I still think if there is a 3rd party market for Ullmark that is the best way to get Lindholm.

I wish we would use this year as an adjustment year and play the kids. Probably a lot of growing pains but by the end of the year into next year we could be something really good.

Can we take a minute to talk about Parker Wortherspoon… hasn’t seen a lot of nhl ice time.

Anyone seen him play? 2021-2022 127 pim in the ahl. Thats pretty significant. Is he an animal out there or what?
