Welcome to the Jungle
iWhichever line Lucic is on will have it's issue in it's own end.

If you can't deploy your 4th line against tough defensive assignments, I think it's pretty much useless. Now they are just a placeholder line. And one of the 4 lines will get the softest defensive match-ups by default. One way or the other.

One of the biggest difference I felt in the finals was Cassidy had trust in his 4th line and could roll them out there. Meanwhile Maurice was terrified of using his 4th line againts top Vegas players.

No disrespect but those lines above make a lot of assumptions. Bergeron's return. Frederic still here. Geekie pushed to the wing. Zacha up the middle.

The biggest problem I see is all the statements I'm making about Lucic in his own end and keeping him away from tough match-ups, also applies to JVR.
Okay, just bouncing that back;

So based on your comments, I added these two.
Marchand-Bergeron-Debrusk
Zacha-Geekie-Pasta
Lucic-Coyle-Frederic

Zacha-Bergeron-Debrusk
Marchand-Geekie-Pasta
Lucic-Coyle-Frederic

So if Geekie, wins a top 6 spot and Bergeron returns then it looks a lot better. With that said, I would personally flip Coyle and Bergeron until the playoffs roll around and prefer Bergeron to take a late start. So still tons of assumptions, hopes, and dreams, but I could imagine this looking pretty good late in the year if we are still in the hunt. I do expect to be in the hunt. :)

Thanks for this.

This hits the nail on the head right here. Monty wasn't sheltering his 4th line defensively. He felt comfortable using them against top players.

And consider this, the had this deployment of 4th line while still having arguably the best defensive forward duo of their generation in 37 and 63. Without Bergeron, the 4th line will likely get even more tough match-ups.

I'd start him on a line with Geekie in the middle and Boqvist on the other wing. Give them the softest defensive match-ups, especially early on while all 3 are getting used to Monty's system.
After reading on, I see you have an entirely different solution. I had already forgotten Boquist.

This will likely be the most camp battles we have had in a very long time. The way Monty juggles his lines I am sure we will see a boatload of combos.

Bergy thank you for a great career! Bruins next chapter starts TODAY!
HOLY SHIT!

Well the good news is we get to keep our first round pick this year. Charlie Coyle is their number one center, they are f****d. All you Coyle lovers will get to see just how bad he is in an offensive roll.

One player is not worth 54 points in the standings, which is what a drop to the bottom 10 would be. Relax.

I think Coyle is the number 2 not that that’s much better.

With Bergeron retired the spotlight once again returns to Sweeney's performance.

I have a hard time getting excited over Brown. He had a tough time cracking the Sens 4th line, and they struggled all year there looking for players to step up. He brings next to no offense, I sure hope he is good defensively and hits anything that moves.

Being 31 with so few games speaks many volumes. Invest in a prospect at that point.

Wonder if Marchand is considering doing the same now.

Chris Kelly always ribbed Marshy that Bergeron carried him to stardom, better hope he doesn't retire.

I mean...the time to worry was probably 3 or 4 seasons ago
Eh. Hindsight, yeah, probably. But right now it's glaring.

Same point. To take this - minutes later - and declare the Bruins a bottom 10 team is being hysterical.
They won't be a bottom 10 team but they're not doing jack shit if they squeeze into the post season unless they address it.
