Toronto gave him a 4.7M signing bonus along with the 5.5M according to NESN's article. That will hurt them next year even if the cap increases. Plus Bert will be a UFA again and will be looking for another deal with more term. Seems like he's put himself in the position to have to follow the money from team to team. So much for a nice stable life.
I’m sure he’ll be fine with a couple years of turbulence when it’s ends in 7/49 somewhere next year

Picks for 28 games of Bertuzzi and 30 games of Orlov:

1st 2023
1st 2024
2nd 2025
3rd 2024
4th 2025
5th 2023

Prettty steep for 2 rentals. Donny boy is a pure gift.
Once Bergeron and Krejci inked those deals last summer and the club had the fall they did, there was no choice but to go all in. They were too pot committed to do anything but.

I believe it's only performance bonuses that can carry over because those aren't paid out till the end of the year. Bertuzzi gets $4,725,000 million now for his signing bonus. Then he gets $775k over the rest of the season.

I meant with dinner.

No, in terms of the team for this coming season
Sitting by the phone waiting-no, hoping for the phone to ring and it be Bergeron on the other end.

Again it's a message board. It's ok to celebrate when they win a cup and ok to be apoplectic when they lose one. Doesn't make you any less of a fan. It's ok to have expectations and be pissed about not reaching them, especially on a message board where only the most rabid hang out... Nothing sports does can change anyones life IMO but I could be wrong.

I'll never be able to relate to sports fans who don't feel winning it all isn't what it's all about. That's how I felt in the 70's and now. I don't lose any sleep over it. I don't get sick over it, all in all it does nothing for better or worse.
Yup- it is all about the title. For me I think their approach this off-season better improves their chances of a cup in the future rather than if they tried to plug some holes on last years sunken ship by selling off more futures and going for it this next year. Even if Bergy returns idk how we could expect them to truly contend unless everybody who struggled against florida removes their heads from their asses and Bergeron somehow stays healthy for a full year. I have a feeling the summer of 2024 will be a wild ride and it will be a significant retool, one that hopefully can help them become a primary contender again. They have the star wing, star D, and good young goalie. Just gotta be smart about surrounding them with talent. Can’t have any more huge gaffes.

Well he doesn't suck , he is on a good contract and there are a lot of teams that would like to have him ..........So why don't you tell me how and with who you replace him, I am sure you have plenty of ideas....let me know who is better than him........Take you time
That's the GM's job not mine. I have better things to do with my time than make up fantasy trades for players that never happen. I will stay a fan and have my strong opinions on players I like and don't like.

If only he didn't have injuries and his diabetes didn't give him such big issues. He was such an exciting pick.

@DKH Me and Dan had high hopes for him.

I was so excited for Knight. I remember watching his junior highlights and thinking he'd be a good top 6 guy in the NHL.

Just for shits, what does one think Marchand at half salary retained net you?

Probably worth waiting until the deadline.

Not sure what else they have of real value to flip and recoup assets.
