Facking Toronto of all the teams he could have gone to, but at least they don't worry, you sign a good player and make the cap work after the fact. They may have to get rid of some players, but they have a good player added. Maybe we can offer Carlo for Nylander and then trade Frederic and Forbort for a cheaper D.

No and they haven't signed a contract either, so I'm thinking their not coming back unless its in 2024 sometime, which would be ideal, but right now I think you have a better chance of seeing Lindholm or Scheifele centering the bruins top line at the Start of the season.
I think sweens got something up in his sleeve it's only july early. Will see.

what direction? its either tank or compete
No,no. It's squeak into the playoffs for some home dates and concessions for JJ.

If you rebuild you lose that money, JJ ain't letting that happen or seeing attendance drop. So we hope overpaid slugs playing out of position like Grizz and Coyle can produce just enough to get into the playoffs. Hockey purgatory lead by the devil himself JJ and Sweengenius

Not at all arsed about Bertuzzi moving on, good complimentary player, but he dosen't drive a line. What upsets me is the trading away of Hall, a guy who loved being a Bruin, drove play and sacrificed personal stats by playing on the 3rd line, clearly a better all around player then Bertuzzi. We should have traded Gryz, and bought out Forbert so we could retain Hall. Sweeney really blew it here in my opinion.

I'm convinced that if Sweemey magically brought last years team back, people would still complain.
yup.....like why did they bring back the same bunch of crap that couldn't get out of the first round?
why didn't they trade a 7th for McDavid
why didn't he get 3 first for Grz and 2 for Forbort?

Alot of people here need a serious dose of reality and need to look up *salary cap*

I'll probably get blasted for this.

Can someone explain to me why they think Sweeney is doing a good job.

I may be wrong but I see a GM constantly playing catchup. Making up for past failures. Not addressing lack of centers to replace aging vets, some questionable contracts and drafting.

Is it on the job training for a GM?

Truth be told I could care less if Bertuzzi came back at 1 or 5 years, but apparently Todd wanted to be here and the Bruins wanted him. I mean what's wrong with letting the market develop instead of binge shopping on guys that were a dime a dozen 2 hours into free agency? Lucic included and yes I wanted him. None of us thought Bert would sign a one year deal, so I kinda get it.

I'm not sure that it's people not realizing this as much as it is that people are angry with the reason why this team had to trade Hall and weren't able to sign Bertuzzi. Why was it that the Bruins had to fill out a lot of roster spots with limited cap space? Bad free agent signings, attaching assets to move said bad signings, and poor drafting leading to very very few quality prospects making the jump - all big reasons why this team had to go dumpster-diving on a very small budget. There was no realistic way to make it work because this team made more bad decisions than good since 2015.
Can't argue with that.....wonder how many other fan bases feel the same way

For me, Sweeney has put three bonafide SC champion teams together in 2019, 2020 and 2023. Now covid ruined 2020, but the players shat the bed the other two seasons.

when you give up multiple assets for rentals you should really have a plan to keep them

Good lord man.

Let’s go back in time here.

You might recall the Bruins were a really good hockey team heading into the deadline. They were looking to shore up the D and were looking at Gavrikov and then Sweeney pulled a magic rabbit out of his ass and got a much better Orlov instead.

And then Hall and Foligno got hurt and they went out and aggressively filled the hole with getting Bertuzzi. This was not part of the plan, but ballsy and resourceful.

When it became clear that Orlov just wanted the most cash possible and that Bertuzzi was a good fit with Pasta they tried to make it work with Bertuzzi but Bertuzzi was asking for more than any team in the NHL was willing to give. NOBODY was willing to get Bertuzzi the bad contract he was asking for. Should Sweeney have sold off pieces at a discount to give out a shitty contract? I wonder what yours posts would have been then.
