Playing around with the armchair Gm tool on capfriendly and came up with this.

- Sign Bertuzzi for Hall money (6 mil AAV, given him the extra years to make it work)
- Buyout Reilly
- Carlo to Cal for Lindholm (I would prefer Scheifele, but Lindholm has a better cap hit)
- Gryz and a 7th to LA for their 2nd
- Re-sign Hathaway for vet minimum
- Sign the three new RD's to league minimum deals
- Sign Freddy and Swayman for 2-3 mil each.

Marchand-Lindholm-DeBrusk
Bertuzzi-Zacha-Pasta
Lauko-Coyle-Lysell
Greer-Freddy-Hathaway
McLaughlin

Forbort-McAvoy
Lindholm-Mitchell
Zboril-Regula
Walsh

Ullmark
Swayman

It's kinda gross, and it barely fits under the cap, but I don't know what else we can realistically do.
That defense sends tingles up my leg..........Also there is no indication Lysell is ready for prime time

It’s becoming increasingly clear that if the bruins trade for a center this summer it will (was always going to) be scheifele
How has the clarity of said trade increased?

Would you do it? Well aware you are playing guys who should be in Providence, but it’s a clear retool year before you can use the increased cap to fix the D

Getting together a grip of mediocre young players to battle it out in camp for one open roster spot is a damned sight less expensive than signing/trading for some mediocre retread you have to buy out or use trade capital to be rid of.

The mediocre young players all might shit the bed, but at least they'll do it cheaply and are easily dismissed.

6. Mark Scheifele
Center, Winnipeg Jets
Age: 30
Stats: 81 GP, 42 G, 26 A, 68 Pts
Contract: 1 more season, $6.13 million AAV
Scoop: Scheifele and Blake Wheeler and Co. have had plenty of kicks at the can in Winnipeg, and it seems as if massive changes are coming on the Canadian prairie. Scheifele is coming off a career-high in goals (42) and his Hockey IQ is off the charts. Coupled with a paltry $6 million cap hit, there should be no shortage of suitors lining up to pry him out of Winnipeg. So many teams in the NHL are starved for center depth and a pivot like Scheifele could significantly change one of their outlooks heading into next season.
33. Matt Grzelcyk
Left Defense, Boston Bruins
Age: 29
Stats: 75 GP, 4 G, 22 A, 26 Pts
Contract: 1 more season, $3.69 million AAV
Scoop: The heat is off Bruins GM The piper needs paying. And the local boy’s time may be running low in Beantown. Grzelcyk was scratched twice already in this first-round series against Florida. Brandon Carlo would also seem to be in the crosshairs this summer as a $4.1 million defenseman, but his term may make him a little more difficult to move. Grzelcyk’s game is respected around the league and he could be a salary cap casualty on Causeway Street.
46. Derek Forbort
Left Defense, Boston Bruins
Age: 31
Stats: 54 GP, 5 G, 7 A, 12 Pts
Contract: 1 more season, $3 million AAV
Scoop: The cap crunch is real for GM Don Sweeney and Forbort is unaffordable at his current role and production level. What is it with the Bruins and their inability to proper evaluate left-shooting defensemen on the free agent market? In a few years’ span, Sweeney spent nearly $23 million on Forbort, Mike Reilly and John Moore. Moore has been traded, Reilly is a buyout candidate this offseason, and now Forbort is on the block.

It’s too bad, Toffoli would be a great add too but not the need, unless you’re trading DeBrusk or not signing Bert. Maybe if Bergy comes back and Zacha is 2nd C.

Then you know what you need to go get at the TDL if you’re in it.

From last night pre award interviews.

Sounds like Ullmark knows he could be traded

Should be an interesting week, leading up to the draft
