I don’t think so. It’s his mindset and the way he plays. He enters the zone with the puck and immediately looks to slow up and scan the ice. Pull back. Circle. He needs to attack.
Maybe he THINKS he IS going fast because everyone else is going so slow.

For anybody still defending how we handled the expansion draft, it is wonderful to see Josh Bailey as a healthy scratch in the playoffs while Jordan Eberle is scoring game winning overtime playoff goals in Seattle. Ugh
I thought Eberle was toast, invisible, an anchor, one-dimensional and addition by subtraction.

It certainly was not me that ever said that. We could have left Clutterbuck unprotected and they probably would have taken Bailey and that would have killed two birds with one stone. I will never understand leaving Eberle, considering his chemistry with Barzal, unprotected over Clutterbuck who was already clearly on the downswing two years ago.

And what was the alternative? They needed to clear cap space and Seattle chose Eberle over Bailey. What else did you want done?

There were rumblings that they wouldn't select Bailey and would've taken Clutterbuck or Martin.

Lou is right. A hockey team is an orchestra

Unfortunately, he’s built an orchestra full of cellos

I thought Eberle was toast, invisible, an anchor, one-dimensional and addition by subtraction.

We need 20% less “grit and character” and 20% more “floating one dimensional guy who actually can score goals”
BTW, both of these statements can be correct. The league has changed some in the past couple of years. [not actually endorsing the "floating" part, but the general theme]

Bissonnette isn't the most eloquent guy and definitely plays up certain aspects of being a hockey player/goon/troll, but it's all part of the larger plan…..Don't let the WWE performance fool you, he's no dummy.
Just because he’s figured out a way to monetize his frat boy, lowest common denominator shtick doesn’t make him a smart guy.

To paraphrase Ty Webb in Caddyshack “Don’t sell yourself short Paul, you’re a tremendous slouch.”

Just depends on what you consider smart. I think he's great for the game and livens things up a bit. Their show is one of the best because players actually give real answers and open up a bit more.

Hyman just took a shot off the chin and it bounced into the net for a goal. If you're going to take a puck to the face that's the best way I guess. Edmonton up 5-2 in the final minutes of the second.

That’s a dirty hit by Makar. He’s lucky he’s a star

If that were Martin or Clutter they’dve been (rightfully) ejected

That hit was completely uncalled for and dirty. People saying Makar was playing until the whistle are either homers or idiots.

That hit wasn't too far from being Dale Hunter level. It should have remained a major penalty and the one-game suspension is deserved. They could have given him two games and it still might not have been enough.

I am actually pleasantly surprised the NHL suspended him. Decreasing the major to interference was laughable and whoever ordered the change should be fired. But since this is the NHL, that person was probably promoted already and now in the running to be the next commissioner.

With respect to the Seattle expansion draft, it would have been great if they took Bailey instead of Eberle, but like the Isles usual "luck", it obviously didn't work out that way.

That said, I prefer Palms to Eberle. Eberle might have had THE WORST playoff series I have ever seen, for a top player, vs. the Flyers.

He was dreadful and, if he could have converted on just one of the 12-15 golden opportunities he flubbed against the Flyers, the Isles would have won the series earlier and might not have been exhausted in that first game against Tampa, where they had to travel and play immediately, then got crushed.

Thanks NHL braintrust!

Would I like to have Eberle over Bailey now? Of course. But I would prefer to have both of them gone and find a better fit alongside Horvat and Barzal. One for the long term.

Yeah, the 1 game suspension is kind of baffling. I watched the NHL video, and they discounted the idea that Makar thought the puck was still in play. So, in the league's eyes McCann shot the puck from the high slot and it went out of play, and Makar then laid him out in the CORNER, and that deserves 1 game. Nuts.

Imagine if that's Clutterbuck, Martin, Foligno, Reaves, etc., they'd get so much more. The NHL is protecting their star player in this case and it's pretty shitty. I never had a problem with Colorado before but now I don't like Makar.

Eberle rules. Dude is king of clutch goals, but lets not fool ourselves that Bailey didn't have his share of clutch moments too. He was a menace to Pittsburgh in round 1, and he was a scoring machine in 2020 and 2021.

FWIW, the Kraken are one of six teams with 6+ 20 goal scorers. The Islanders only had three (four if you count Horvat with his VAN numbers).

That needs to change next season, and it starts with coaching.

I think Lou’s vision for the Islanders was to have a bunch of 20 goal scorers. Barzal, Lee, Nelson, Palmieri, Beauvillier, Pageau, Wahlstrom should have been those guys.

That was a crazy ending at the end of the 3rd with Marchand on a breakaway with like 1 second left. Bob with the save. Going into OT
