Prospect Info: F Ilya Safonov, Ak Bars Kazan

To sum up ...Safonov had 1g 2prinary assists today in the Ak Bars 5-2 win(Nov. 17th/22).
 
I thought I read he was pretty slow.....hopefully, that's not the case......I will say that he better be prepared to pay the piper in the NHL standing in front for a living.

3C: Greene vs Safonov for 3C in 2 years. Competition is good.
 
On the plus side, was an assistant captain and scored 13 goals for Ak Bars and added a goal and an assist in five playoff games.

Is that enough to keep him on the radar with all of the highly-regarded forwards in the Hawks' pipeline?
 
I still think that he can be a solid 4th line C. Size and good hands. I just think he'll really struggle with the pace at times.

I still like his game a bit but looks like the scoring was more of a situational thing.

I don't see him fitting the Davidson model. I doubt he ever plays a game in a Blackhawks uniform....which leads me to the Simon and Garfunkel line "where you gone Shalunov, Hawks nation turns it lonely eyes to you"

They could use a big forward so hopefully he gives it a go when his contract ends. If it doesn’t work out that’s ok, especially since only a sixth round pick.

Forgot about him. There were some publications hyping him before the season.
 
Powers said on Twitter that a source in the org said nothing with Safonov is finalized yet and denied that he is definitely coming over for the 2025-26 season.
