2023 NHL Entry Draft

I would go with best talent available. There are other drafts coming. We are deep in young defensemen.
We are not stacked in top pairing Ds (RHD in particular; Barron and Mailloux still have some questions marks). And Ds takes a bit more time to grow. So, it would be better soon to draft one, if possible, and a good one that will not take 5-6 years to come to the NHL.
Look. I'm all for the BPA philosophy.
But, at the same time, you can't ignore the needs.
If'there a good RHD available, with top pairing potential, you need to consider sélecting one with the Florida's pick. Unless there's better forwards availables, that you just cannot let go.

A guy that is sky rocketing on my list and I can see some people starting to talk about is D. Simashev big 6’4’’ 185lbs LD he just shutting down everything that come is way and for some reason the offensive production isn’t there, he might be a little too conservative but he can beat the pressure and pass or skate it out, he seem to have all the skills Skating, positioning, puck handling, smart, can walk the blue line, he isn’t physically punishing or mean but take advantage of is size. He might not have a booming shot but it is accurate. he just seem very effective, I think the most favorable upside comparaison would be Slavin or Ekholm.

You take the best player available, if both are equal than maybe the position can be the deciding factor but take the BPA and you use your asset to fill the needs.

After the top 15, it become very hard to say who is the best player available. The best Defenseman is this year draft year, will be drafted around 15-20. We should use the Florida first round pick and choose one. They usually take 3-4 years to be NHL ready.

Also I would still not worry about us falling from top 5 pick. Season is still young and we are only 7 pts from the 32nd position.

Our biggest competition is from Arizona and they won again tonight.

If take 3-4 years RD issue might have been fix via trade or UFA, and if he isn’t the next player on your list you might have miss out on a better player.

Habs decent team this year though. We picked wrong year to tank.

2.12 PPG for Bedard so far... as a comparison, McDavid was 2.55PG with a better team around him.

Bedard is definitely the best prospect since McDavid

Plus the WHL is stronger defensively.

Carson Bjarnason is really good.

There's no way, with the performance of Dobes, Dichow, Primeau, Vrbetic and Croteau in the system that the Habs don't select one of Bjarnason, Hrabal or Fowler. I'd bet any money they work the board to procure at least one of them.

He looks good that's for sure, that's why we need a 3rd 1st rounder

Decent???

The only decent pieces are Suzuki, Caufield and Guhle (being somewhat generous as he hasn't played enough games).

Goalies are playing really well but expecting Allen and Montembault to keep it up is unsustainable.

The young defense will eventually hit a wall in December/January.

Do you expect the 1st line to continue scoring 50% of our goals until the end of the season?

You finally watch him? Sweeet, eh? So smooth in his movements. I'm down for taking a goalie with Florida's pick. Could very well be BPA anyway.

Anaheim is easily the worst team I watched this year, their roster is putrid, they have no system and they are terribly coached. At least Arizona has Tourigny and the team has some structure, with Eakins you know what management's real intentions are...

Habs will draft about 10-14th. Colby Barlow somebody like that they will get. Unless they run into a rash if injuries

We have real good first line. Deep up front. The additions of Guhle, Xhekaj and Harris have helped the defense. Allen signing long term have given them a starting goalie.

Honestly this year might be a good moment to get someone to play with one of the duos.

A shooting winger/center for Dach and Slaf. Of course here Bedard and Michkov are the prized possession... but Yager ? Sheesh.
A bigger body for CC/NS. Dvorsky? I think he may be too slow for the duo, but his pace can be close to NS. Hes also 3 years away IMO.
