The lack of D-man at the top of the 2023 draft is something. BPA will be a forward until like what, #20?
it's still really early. There will be Ds that will climb in the teens, where the CH will probably pick with the Florida's pick. My guess : Sandin Pellika or Strbak for RHD, Price for LHD. Well see

Lukas Dragicevic is on fire. He's on a 10 game point streak, I think.

He has 5g, 16a and 21 pts in 16 gp. If he actually stays above a ppg, I mean that can't be ignored. He's getting a ton of ice time for Tri-Cities too.

He's a terrific skater. That's the first thing that stands out about him. Defensively, there's a lot of work to do, but he willingly plays a physical game.

He isn't overly creative, but he connects with his teammates.

I worry about his defensive game though. Offensively, he has better upside than Jack Johnson, but defensively....

I expect he at least gets an invite to WJCs, and I'll be watching through the year to see if there's improvement in his overall game.

Indeed, so great in fowards, so poor in defensemen, I guess we will have to wait another year to draft a potential top pairing defenseman. Only one I like so far is Strbak, but probably not top 15.
Maybe get an RD with Floridas pick. Guhle/Mailloux/Hutson is a nice D core to build around already too, with Jackeye, Barron and Harris as the depth.

2024 pick shouldn’t be high unless we stall in the reload.

I would go with best talent available. There are other drafts coming. We are deep in young defensemen.
Yes, I agree, just keep drafting the best player available and we should have enough asset to fill position of need.
Our situation or outlook can change drastically over 1 season, and draft pick take 2-4 years

I'm thinking Will Smith will overtake Dvorsky and Yager and get that 5 spot
Hes a part of the group but I doubt he "overtakes" anyone. Just makes it into that group of interchangeable.
Food for thought
Are the 2nd and 3rd rate forwards overhyped because the D talent in junior leagues is just horribly low this year?
The D talent in junior is not horribly low.

We just went through two very strong drafts for Ds, they should just be better.

Well, BPA for me with the Florida pick, if thats a defenseman nice, if not, take a foward.
I think that the habs should use draft capital to get Bedard, just a thought, the habs can use 2023 florida first rounder, as well as calgarys first rounder in a few years as part of a package to get the player that they want in the draft while keeping their own 2023 pick, just wondering what else would need to be added to get arizonas pick or one of the top 3 , again while keeping the habs own 2023 pick. asking for realistic proposals and which teams would be likely to make this type of deal. thanks everyone, and take care and enjoy life.

I asked this question because I think it would be beneficial to the habs to do this, I also think that Hughes will get another 1st at the trade deadline, any picks acquired at the deadline can be added to a package to try and get a top 5 pick in 2023 besides whatever pick the habs already have, also the habs can sign a UFA this summer if they want to because they will have tons of salary cap room even after signing Caufield/Harris, it is safe to assume that Price's contract is LTIR so even more money to use to get players or recoup picks by taking on a couple of bad contracts for teams up against the cap,( similar to Monahan deal). plus Beck/Mesar can replace some of the deadweight expiring contract while on entry level contracts, or any of the other ready to play prospects looking for a spot, this team can be legit contenders sooner rather than later.

The value for a top 5 pick will be off the chart this year. I can’t see any team trading them unless a star player come their way. If we keep our own 1st, it would take one of Suzuki Caufield and Slaf.

I’d be open to move up our 1st to get a top 5 tho. Something like 8th overall pick+top prospect for a top 5.

I can’t see how the Cgy 1st hold much value on the market as we can’t predict where they’ll finish in 2024, 25 or 26. Too many unknowns. Also, Montreal might get better quick, so our 2024 1st might not hold much value either.

No team in right mind would trade Bedard pick

Ok I've accepted our fate. 7th-10th and low chance at Bedard...but still a chance.

More likely we're looking at the Sale, Dvorsky, Benson, Smith or Richie types. Find the one who pops off.
I never remember... is it only the first pick we can win or can we move up somewhere else too?

If we miss out on a top 3/4 pick then I hope we manage to grab Dvorsky.

It's early, but the Caufield-Suzuki-Dach looks like it could be here to stay. If we grab Dvorsky then we could have a Slaf-Dvorsky-Mesar 2nd line in a few years if all goes well.
