It's cloudy & raining where I am, although yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day. Went on a fall colour hike.
Thats because you live in Toronto, thats all they deserve over there.

Add Barron, Harris, Mailloux and Hutson to that list!

Hoping that Dobes continues his rapid rise.

And for funsies and more sick dreaming. Let's offersheet Laf this offseason.

2025/26

Laf (24) - Suzuki (26) - Caufield (24)
Slaf (21) - Dach (24) - Bedard (20)
Farrell (23) - Beck (21) - Mesar (21)

Guhle (23) - Barron (23)
Harris (25) - Mailloux (22)
Xhekaj (24) - Hutson (21)
Allen (20)

Dobes (24)

Laf would fit in so seemlessly with CC and Suzuki. Hes tailormade for them.

I would fight anyone that puts Bedard on wing though.

I don't mind Bedard on the wing. He can focus exclusively on putting pucks on goal with his wicked shot. Slaf could dig pucks and forecheck. Dach could be the playmaker and Bedard the finisher.

Would you move Matthews to the wing? Bedard is most likely a better C than both Dach and Suzuki. His value as a winger doesn't make sense.

Id rather capitalize on Dachs C value and flip him for a D.

I like Dach and hes pretty much erased any doubts I had from last year, but to me hes not a more/less valuable piece than the three wingers that went after #13.

I guess theres always a Ryjo Jones moves left for us. Looking at the league Im not too sure who would fit. (Need a C+Have a D/W worthy of).
We'll see how Dach does. If he gets to shine under Marty like CC and Suzuki did last year, and he establishes himself as a legit top 6er, that's a way more valuable piece going forward than any of the the wingers that went after #13. I say that as a Nazar stan.

Is WCJ still a go? Hockey Canada is a mess right now.. They make the National News every night. Things just keep getting worse

Yeah, the interviews & whether or not he shows up at the draft are critical components.

If there are no interviews, and he's not allowed to leave Russia for the draft, he'll drop into top 20.

I suspect Washington has an upper hand considering Ovechkin's relationship with Putin. They could get him out of Russia earlier.

He's not dropping past 5 no matter what IMO. Too good to drop.

I seriously doubt he drops out of top 10

Would Ovechkin or Malkin have dropped much?

I don't think anyone in that class was close to their tier of prospect.

Michkov does have a few names who are and there's some cracks showing in his game, we will see if it's rust or if it's a bigger issue. Dylan Griffing has some examples on twitter.

I don't think there is anyone past the top 5 close to him this year either. He's not going to fall off the top 6-7.

The cracks don't change the fact that he's an X-factor of the talent level of Bure (with different skills).

It's pretty clear to me that 5 is about the threshold where you can't pass on him, things can change obviously but based on last year and the start of this year.

You can take Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson and even Yager ahead of him. But I don't think there's an argument for anyone beyond that.

If we don't get Bedard...who is your second choice?

If we don't get Bedard...which team do you want to get him and why?

Ill start......Michkov. I am totally fine waiting for him to come over. We will continue to tank for a couple of years anyways, and when he arrives he will be ready to jump right in and power boost our rise to contention. Give us a top 10 pick in 2024 and top 15 pick in 2025 as we climb out of the dumpster.

In terms of where I'd like to see Bedard, if not with us....Chicago or Vancouver. Original 6 team or his hometown.

Leo Carlsson. Give me the big center with smooth skating, high IQ, all the offensive tools, and is on pace to have one of the best draft year seasons in the SHL.

If we can't get Bedard, I'd want to see him go to San Jose. They're out west and they've never really drafted a superstar. Great uniforms now.

I mean there wasn't a shooting war when they were getting drafted. Anyways, I don't want to get into a lengthy battle about it. I said I didn't expect it.

But, rumours are there are teams out there that won't draft Russians. He will certainly test that edict.

And, I wasn't thinking of Malkin/Ovechkin when I made that comment I was thinking of Tarasenko. This is a scouting report from his draft year (2010):

"One player who could very well be on par with Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin is Russian winger Vladimir Tarasenko who has quietly built his acumen with a stellar season in the KHL this past year. In a draft crop laced with some of the most promising Russian prospects in recent memory, Tarasenko headlines the crop of talented young players and could prove to be one of the top players in the draft.

Tarasenko has decent size, but is one of the most potent offensive players in the draft. He’s a good skater, with excellent acceleration and has the ability to reach top flight extremely quickly. His hands are excellent, making him very good in one on one situations, and his shot power and accuracy are comparable to the best players in the draft. Adding to the positives, he also competes hard, especially for a Russian, and is willing to battle for the puck to win battles."

Note the "especially for a Russian" comment at the end. Tarasenko was definitely on par with Seguin & Hall. I was absolutely shocked when he fell out of top 5 then top 10 then top 15.

Blues took him 16th. Straight up steal of a pick.

Michkov won't be at ANY international tournaments this year. No WJC, no Hlinka, no U18s. Nothing.

For Michkov, we won't know til closer to draft, like I said if teams are able to interview him, if he shows up at draft, those are definitely contributing factors to him maintaining his draft status.

I wonder if we don't pick top ~6 if we take the best Dman available. Likely Cameron Allen.

Our top 6 next year assuming we end up with Dubois will be

Caufield - Suzuki - Dubois/Slaf

Dubois/Slaf-Dach-Anderson

If we trade Anderson eventually we have tons of forwards with top 6 potential to be the 6th guy as well.

And grab Dvorsky with Florida’s pick :naughty:

I watched a period of Dvorsky as AIK was playing this morning. Stream was crap, so gave up after one.

His line was the best line on ice & they scored 2 goals, although he didn't pick up a point.

Looks & acts like a center, plays a mature game defensively, but wasn't overly active offensively. The goals were due to aggressive plays by his wingers.

Definitely want to see more of him.

If we don't get a chance to draft Bedard, Carlsson or Fantilli (or take the swing on Michkov)... the rest of the options seem pretty interchangeable to me right now. Whether it's Yager, Benson, Ritchie, Sale, Dvorsky or Allen - let's see who separates themselves over this season and who vaults up into the conversation. Last year was depressing following Wright and company, this year will be a blast.

I am ok with offer sheet to Laf, the habs should have enough cap room to resign Cole this year, probably work out a deal with the rangers , than after next year sign PLD if desired,

I think Yager as an advance on the others but I agree for the rest

If we offersheet Laf, I wouldn't bother making the play for PLD. We will have close to 24 mil tied up in Suzuki, laf and Cole at that point

doesn't matter as we live in a different world now where Russia is openly saying they are at war with the west (USA), that's hard to say how each GM and their owners are going to want to handle that. Plus I don't think he's at their level, I liked what I saw from him for sure, while watching him play on Alexander Gordin's team but he is so small compared to AO and Malkin.

He's a lot more shifty and the NHL is also different, where guys like this thrive.

While the world is different, most of the Russians are here for the season start of the NHL.
