If we don't get a chance to draft Bedard, Carlsson or Fantilli (or take the swing on Michkov)... the rest of the options seem pretty interchangeable to me right now. Whether it's Yager, Benson, Ritchie, Sale, Dvorsky or Allen - let's see who separates themselves over this season and who vaults up into the conversation. Last year was depressing following Wright and company, this year will be a blast.
Yager is ahead for me. I think Dvorsky and Allen after, because Allen fits the team.

Ok so assuming we land top 5, here's what were likely looking at:

Bedard
Michkov
Carlsson
Yager
Fantilli

These are my ideal lines WITHOUT 2023 draft:

Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
PLD** - Dach - Anderson
Farrell - Bech - Mesar
Heineman - Evans - Gallagher

Guhle - *Mailloux
Matheson - *Barron
Xhakej - Harris/Hutson

I would like to get PLD but i also wouldn't mind saving those spots for in the system guys like Farrell and Heineman. Either way it's nice to see different possibilities with our team.

As for our D, I put an asterisk on mailloux and Barron. Hopefully they both hit their potentials.

On paper this looks very solid. Throw in that 2023 top 5 pick and maybe FLA 1st and we will be booming with talent.

Time will tell how everyone develops, but at the absolute WORST, we have a shit load of assets at our disposal. It all comes down to how we manage them and if done correctly, I can see us being a very good team for a long time

Watched the Kelowna game to check out Andrew Cristall & came away impressed by Caden Price. A really strong skating D with size who's off to a good start offensively for Kelowna. Another LD.

Also watched a bit of Nate Danielson (C), who's ranked mid to late 1st. He plays for Brandon. He's definitely ranked where he should be, but he's a big, strong skating center with a really mature two-way game. Has sneaky hands for passing. Sent 2 passes his linemates way that should have been goals, but they weren't ready for the passes. Didn't see him shoot.

Pricer has great skating and incredibly quick decision-making.
Cristall has lost himself a little bit since Dach returned, the two did not work well together.
So I could say Pricer is the best player of the Rockets last few games.

I quite like all of those players. They all impressed at the WJC summer camp. As well as Gauthier.

I like Hughes mindset of trying to acquire another 1st and having the flexibility to move up in the draft.

One of Bedard/Fantilli/Michkov/Carlsson/Yager

and

Allen

would be an absolute dream.
That would be unreal. Would be hard to imagine that but a Carlsson and Allen pick up would just be unbelievable. Obviously Bedard too but I’m really high on Allen so anyone else of those you mentionned I’d be ecstatic

Have any of you watched Joey Willis from the Saginaw Spirit? He is already got 10 pts in 6 games. One game is pointless and all others are 1 goal / 1 assist. Is he the product of his team (Misa, Mintyukov) or a contributor?

Yeah, Price was solid at those events. Regular games are a little different. Easier to get up for International/special events. He drove play from backend when the team went down one in 3rd, but didn't over extend himself to cause breakouts the other way. They still lost.

Off the bat, he seems like a Byram type of player. He's started off ppg. I'll need more viewings.

Oh a height argument from someone who has never seen Michkov play.
Yeah I absolutely cannot see a world where Michkov drops out of the top 5. If that happens, I have to seriously evaluate the intelligence of the teams in the top 5s' brass. I can however see Bedard, Fantilli, and Carlsson going over him. There's a case that if Michkov was born in Latvia or something and played in a European men's league, he could very realistically go no.1

I'm really starting to fear that Carlsson is going to go #2 overall. He looks so effing good lol.

It would suck but having a Fantilli or a Michkov or a yurov available at 4/5 is very nice. If PLD isn't lying and wants to sign in Montreal in 2 years, Habs don't really NEED a centre and it goes to BPA

There is still LOTS to consider with singing PLD but I still very much like entertaining the idea.

Personally I'd only want to sign him as a winger. There is no room at C for him especially after the 2023 draft assuming we land one of those centers you mentioned.

With PLD, our offence would be stacked and worst case scenario we have a log jam up front that we can use to acquire upgrades elsewhere like on D or in net.

I see PLD as a winger too. But he CAN play centre in the case that the Habs pick a Michkov, etc.

Yup good point he can even switch for faceoffs like Monahan and dach are doing. Great to have.

What do you think about the not coming over for 4 years rumor for michov?

Kaprizov didn't go high but if in hindsight if he were a projected top 5/10 pick, I'm guessing tons of teams would still pick him knowing he'd be a late arrival. I'm still personally taking Fantilli, Carlsson, and Bedard at the very least over him but if available I'm definitely snatching him up at 4/5

Loved Caden Price at the U18, I didnt watch all games, but he stood out as a very steady all around defenseman the games I watched.

Another defenseman that I like alot is Maxim Strbak, kid is rock solid defensively, pretty physical, strong on pucks, great at breaking and reading plays, great at blocking the shooting lanes, very good skater and overall mobility, excellent in transition. Only part of his game Im unsure at this point is the offensive upside, but I think its there and it has alot of potential. He is a Slovakian that played in the U20 last year in Finland and is now playing in the USHL, commited to the Vermont university for next year. Thats a kid I really like and going to follow closely closely.
