My dream scenario with our 2 1st round picks is one of the big 4 forwards (Bedard, Carlsson, Fantilli, Michkov)

And then Cam Allen or Lukas Dragicevic with the Florida pick depending on where it ends up.

Funny cause the Ducks picked Gaucher at 22nd right after, and most of us wouldn't have taken him with any of our first 3 picks.
I wouldve, I like Gaucher.

You, me @Goldenhands were his supporters on this board.

Here’s hoping Michkov drops to the panthers pick with teams scared of drafting him and we get our own Kaprizov in 4-5 years

Here's the thing with Michkov.

Is he worth waiting maybe 4 years for, then when he does show up at 22 that's only a 2 year ELC, and then after that he's, like, 3 years away from UFA.

Or, do you draft someone else like Carlsson, who'll be in your system for a full 7 years before UFA hits. You have 3 years of ELC rights. One year of RFA rights with no arbitration or offer sheets, and you can put an 8 year contract on the table.

Under those conditions, do you take Michkov before Bedard? Absolutely not.

Before Carlsson? No.

Now go down the list.

At some point you'll get to player where Michkov is the obvious pick regardless of the above conditions. For me, that's definitely not in top 5.

Hey I liked Gaucher, but not to the point you guys did.

But Michkov might be the best Russian player since Ovechkin, even with the complications - it's a huge reward.

Thing is I liked Beck & Mesar too. And, I wouldn't have wanted to trade up to get Gaucher. We would have missed out on Beck, or Hutson probably.

It is what it is.

Yep, in the grand scheme of 3 years of rebuilding, Gaucher is nice to have - not critical.

It does however highlight something I was suspecting. Hughes IS likely to bring Quebec talent artificially.

Well, he should just say one thing. GUYS I'M DRAFTING QUEBECERS IN 2024: BE PATIENT.

2024 has 15 Quebecers in the first 2 rounds...

He'll definitely be the best since Ovechkin, but the NHL is about the now. 4 years of Bedard & Carlsson before you even get Michkov on your team is a trade off a lot of teams won't want to make. It extends any rebuild by quite a bit.

If it's a fluke team that wins, say, Carolina, I can see them waiting for him.

But if you have 2 top 7 picks (by chance) you absolutely grab him.

Everyone is scared of the 4 years, but I don't believe it will take 4 years - this is a Stastny situation.

Oh yeah, if by some miracle we get ANOTHER top 10 pick absolutely!

To do this, we'd need Florida to miss the playoffs (say just, like team #15) then they win the lottery moving up to #5.

Then our own pick is also top 5!

Voila! 2 top 5 picks. At that point, you have to decide if Michkov will go between the 2 picks & where you should take him.

A dream scenario I don't dare to consider.

Yeah, the interviews & whether or not he shows up at the draft are critical components.

If there are no interviews, and he's not allowed to leave Russia for the draft, he'll drop into top 20.

I suspect Washington has an upper hand considering Ovechkin's relationship with Putin. They could get him out of Russia earlier.

Yup. He's just started, so Carlsson & Bedard have had a head start. He's already come out & said he wants to be the #1 pick.

I'm curious to see how his year goes.

IMO, Bedard, Carlsson & Fantilli are the top 3.

With a 2nd level of Yager & Allen. And maybe Sale. Haven't decided on him yet.

Cristall is a huge outlier. Ranked late 1st, he's absolutely eating up the WHL right now.

God, I love this draft.
Is Michkov even a consideration now? I haven't been following as much lately, but I remember him being talked about as potential #1. Is he not being talked about because his play, or other reasons that we shouldn't get into here?

Emelin blew his knee :hit:

Emelin injured him in KHL game play, so he's out with a knee injury.
