2023 NHL Entry Draft

Ironically, the level of D at the top level this past year and in 2023 don't seem to be franchise level, which is somewhere we really lack in our pool and roster.

I like the top 5-10 a lot better than 2022 at least.

Axel Sandin-Pellikka is getting lots and lots of minutes. A bit of a tougher game for him last night as he was forced to defend a lot more and didn't have much opportunity to show what he's good at. He's so-so at defence, would need to improve a lot to be a force at the NHL level, but he's good enough to win his coach's trust.

Nice to see the draft actually look better and better as time passes. Never even heard of this Sale guy and looks amazing even if he's not consensus #2. Good year to suck.
He stood out to me in both the spring WU18 as an under-age and then of course in the summer Hlinka tourney.

Thought Sale was better than Kulich at u18s. Outside of Kulich's shot of course, but Sale brought a lot more in terms of playmaking, creativity and has a quality shot of his own. Definitely deserves to be in discussion for top 10.

Not sure about #2, but it's not out of the question that he gets there. His ability to create is high end, and has the skating to go with it.

I'd say it's gonna be a troublesome battle for him to outduel all the high end centers in this draft. Sale is a winger and hasn't played center really in a meaningful way in a few seasons, as far as I know.

He doesn't have the Slafkovsky physical uniqueness to out battle his positional value, imo.

But I do really like the player and would have 0 issues with him as our selection, depending on the board.

Yeah, his biggest factor is he's a winger, so you take Carlsson & Fantilli ahead of him. Yager too. But after that he's in that next group for sure.

He's shifty. He's not someone I expect Montreal to draft unless we fall out of top 5. Let's f***ing hope not. 🙏

We definitely want one of Bedard, Carlsson, Fantilli, or Yager. A top 4 pick is ideal.

Yep.. that's really where I am.

Give me one of those boys and they'll be the crown jewel of our rebuild.

I’m really excited about this draft. I still think we need to upgrade at C. While Suzuki is great and we will see what Dach turns into, neither are necessarily elite 1C. So if you can get a Bedard, Fantilli, I think you have to take (obviously for Bedard)

Bedard/Suzuki/Dach could be the best 1-2-3 combo in the league in 3 years time.

That being said, if we pick closer to 5-7, I’d be reallly intrigued by Carlsson and even Cam Allen. I think he will have a massive year and he will go top 5 and would be our best chance at getting a legit 1D in our prospect pool.

So many good looking forwards in this crop, it's a good thing we're starting to be pretty loaded prospect wise on defense. I sure wouldn't mind getting a third 1st rounder somewhere along the way.
Getting a 3rd first rounder would be insane!
Not true how that happens to be honest as I don’t see Dadonov Drouin Hoffman Byron getting a 1st even with retention. Maybe from Dvorak but not sure if that’ll happen. I also really don’t see us trading Anderson either .

I think most likely option would be stockpile a few 2nds and then maybe trade up on draft day in the late 1st.

Curious what people have for top 5 d-man and guys they think will move up the board. I'm unimpressed by the guys this year at the backend, but you never know who will move up:

Mikhail Gulyayev
Cameron Allen

Theo Lindstein
Hunter Brzustewicz
Maxim Strbak
Caden Price
Jordan Tourigny

Lukas Dragicevic
Jakub Dvorak

I feel like there are a lot of potential for later risers with this crop of d. The center depth for this draft is exceptional, and there just doesn't seem like there are a lot of Dman that are 100% slam dunk picks. I would love Gulyayev if he falls to us with Florida's pick.

Arttu Karki is a LD with a good frame that may fit into your 2nd or 3rd tier. He's currently over a ppg player in the Finn U20's and someone to keep an eye on

I really think Cam Allen is going to be the #1. I get Bowen Byram feels from him and I think he will go top 5. Not for sure because of talent but I think one team is going to go for need on defense and he will be the top D available. I think he will explode this year

Luca Pinelli with a hattrick in his 1st game. I know he's small but I liked his brother and now that he's teammates with Rhorer I should get to see a lot of him this year.
