For those of you who are pushing back against the idea of drafting a goalie late 1st round if the Panthers pick falls there.

We have an opportunity to do something just like this:

Would anyone argue that the Stars made a mistake drafting Oettinger? He's an absolute f***ing stud.

Picking Michkov would be the very definition of high risk/high reward.
If he comes over, he might be the missing piece to becoming a serious contender.
If he doesn't come over, that might kill off this rebuild and we return to the bubble team purgatory.
If we skip Michkov, might as well pick Reinbacher because we'll have to stop him for 10-12 yearly attempts at a Stanley Cup.
Next 4 teams after us are all in the East.
Such a no-brainer to pick Michkov at 5+ for me.

I am not planning to reply if any poster gives me the traditional "what if he never comes", over-discussed.

If we take Michkov it would likely be over guys like Dvorsky/Benson who could be decent players, but wouldn't be guys who are the missing piece to take us to another level.

Winning 2nd and taking Michkov would be high risk considering Carlsson/Fantilli have high ceilings. But the risk becomes a lot lower if you take Michkov 5th, 6th or 7th considering the potential of players begins dropping off.

0.2%

Habs have 0.3%

Let’s just say it’s not likely lol
Might sound crazy but even at 2nd OA, I wouldn't be surprised if they take Reinbacher. They are a little crazy with overvaluing guys they like. They had Soderstrom ranked 3rd OA because they loved who he is and he filled a need.

Damn, 10 seconds of absolutely f***ing nothing. Dude can barely pivot.

This is KK all over again.
I agree that this is not the most impressive clip and that Carlsson does not have Smith’s elusiveness and creativity, but come on. Carlsson is 100 % a better prospect than KK was and clearly has more transferable skills than Smith.

Your “can barely pivot” take is laughable as Carlsson is clearly a stronger skater than Smith. That’s not even debatable.

I think Arizona has the added difficulty of being a team no one in their right mind wants to be part of, so their scouting staff really seem to value who wouldn't mind being drafted there. All their picks last year sounded quite enthusiastic in draft weekend interviews, which is... surprising.
Can't really blame them for trying to build something with players that won't bolt at 25 or won't ever sign.
If they pick Reinbacher, it tells me Fantilli/Carlsson/Smith told them off. I don't see a successful Michkov-to-ARI scenario.

Coyotes would be crazy to do that. They need a marketable player.

I’m also convinced that Bedard will bolt asap if they draft him. They likely have better odds with the American college guys to keep those players. Hell, they might even come to us and ask for 6th OA and Hutson for the 2nd OA.

A marketable player that actually wants to play there. I doubt Carlsson/Fantilli want to play there, Bedard probably doesn’t either but they obviously can’t pass up on him. They probably have the worst defense in NHL history.

The player will likely be stuck there for 7ish years anyways. The ELC then RFA years since I doubt anyone gives four 1sts.
