We may have to come to terms with the fact that the only way we get Wood is to take him with our first pick. No way he makes it to 17, I just don't see how.

This was always true, but I think many are finally realizing this now. His path has been unusual (BCHL and lower tier NCAA program), which has contributed, with his skating deficiencies, in making people think he is not a top prospect. He will be picked top 10, and may easily be our pick. Can you imagine a better winger to play with somebody like Kirby Dach?

He doesnt.

It was always obvious to anyone who actually follows prospects he was going top 15, at worst.

The sad part is that I have a really, really hard time justifying him over anyone in the top 6.

Benson and Smith are such big question marks, I see the upside of all three and I dont know where to go.

You don’t pass on a guy because he’s a center lol

A center can move to wing, things sort themselves out. Dach and Dubois can both play wing and Dvorsky can too though that would be a waste. Heck, imagine a Dubois-Dvorsky-Dach line. The triple Ds. Those three would complement each other beautifully while all being big bodies who can dominate in a cycle game.

Beck isn’t a top 6 centerman either, more of a 3rd C type.
I never said Beck was a top 6C. I have him driving our fourth line in the future. Suzuki, Dach and Dubois are older and better players than Beck, now and in the future.

If you're going to pick someone with skating deficiencies, I'd rather he be 6'4". The rest of the toolbox though ? I can't see many teams passing over that, at least not 16 of them. Really makes you want to punch Hextall right in the face when you think about it.

It wouldn't be the first time I got excited by a set of Triple D's.

1. Smith is going 4th.
2. Michkov will drop way down because Habs and other early-pickings team cannot justify the risks.
3. No Reinbacher. Habs needs scoring forwards. Mailloux and Barron are our 1-2 RH D for this core.
4. With Suzuki, Dubois and Dach, and Beck, Dvorsky is not needed at C.
5. Benson is too small. Left-handed wingers competing to be part of the core: Slafkovsky, Roy, Farrell and Heineman. Benson has special skills, but not enough to justify the pick, and we are deep for his position.

Who are we left with if we pick 6th (most likely spot):
Leonard vs Wood
It will be one of these two. Brace yourself Habs fans.

As early as season 2024-2025, we could be icing something like this:
Caufield-Suzuki-Heineman (1st line)
Wood-Dach-Slakovsky (Real 1st line)
Anderson-Dubois-Farrell (In your face line, but can still score on you)
Ylonen-Beck-Roy (Better than they look line)

Panthers 1st pick + Mesar + Harris for Dubois
1. Smith may go 2nd or 8th
2. Agree
3. Reinbacher is a way better prospects than Mailloux and Barron and we should not refrain from drafting him as he will be a clear upgrade on what we already have.
4. BPA... If Dvorsky ends up better than Suzuki or Dach we will be very happy and will figure things out then... Same as 3.
5. BPA... If Benson ends up a 90 points player we won't care about his size. Same as 3 and 4.

Wood was very impressive today, first time I really focused my eyeballs on him. Don’t think he’s an option top 6 thiugh.
We will see. Leonard could be the pick. I think the main HuGo target is Smith, but I don't think he is there past 4. I think Wood is the backup pick, and if not available, then Leonard. I doubt Montreal draft the usual players discussed in this thread (e.g., Benson, Reinbacher, Dvorsky and Michkov). One thing that is rarely discussed is the personality of players, which is critical in a market like Montreal. Hughes hinted at this in a recent interview, preparing the fans IMO for a pick that will not be well received (e.g., Wood). Take a look at a Wood interview, and you will see a mature player, very different compared to guys like Caufield, Kotkaniemi, Galchenyuk, and Slafkovsky. More in the Suzuki mold, although Suzuki is in a class of its own in this regard.

Anyone claiming that he was only a shooter has no clue about the kid. He was primarily a playmaker this season and his IQ is off the charts.

It just so happens that he's also a fantastic shooter. He didn't really get to uncork many bombs this tournament because Truitt had him standing in front of the net.

In a few years, Wood could replace Caufield as the right-handed shooter on the PP. He is that good.

Only people that would refuse this offer are the same that would rather make 50K a year if everyone they knew made 25K a year instead of making 100K a year and everyone else making 200K a year.

You take Bedard and don't look back twice.
The way you worded works because you wrote "everyone they know", but if you had not made that distinction, this would have only resulted in currency devaluation where 50k a year compared to mid range salary of 25 would be way more interesting than 100k when the mid range is 200.

That being said, all is good, we can move along.
