It was very impressive, and without it Slaf wouldn't have been picked first. I argued against Ryan Bader's use of statistics for ignoring it last year.

But you have to understand, the best 8 games in the world is 8 games all the same. All kinds of things happen in small samples. We had a guy in here earlier saying Sale deserved top 3 consideration because he was PPG in Extraliga....after 5 games lol.
Agree with you on Bader. I also agree on your second point. I just want to give another perspective.

Slafkovsky produced and obliterated the Hlinka-Gretzky (U18 tournament in august). He obliterated the J20 in Finland. He had a terrific showing at the OG and another terrific showing at the world cup.

After a dozen of games in the Liiga, Kemell had 12 goals in 16 games. Slafkovsky had 2 points in 11 games. But a Liiga amateur pointed out something very interesting in november. He compared Lambert, Slafkovsky and Kemell and despite Slafkovsky low production. He was the one generating the most scoring chances both for himself and his teammates. (Preuve a l'appui). He broke out in January but it was not a surprise to this fans. After the OG, he doubled his P/60 output and had good playoffs in Liiga.

As much as the sample size of the OG and WC is small. The sample size where he did not produce, its a dozens of Liiga games, is also a small sample. Its also contradicted by strong advanced metrics. Much like his OG performance has unsustainable metrics.

This team is 100% not contending for anything in the next three years. Look at our division and the elite talent on these other teams. Our defence is years away, we have no goalie of the future and our forward group needs a lot of work.

Please just take Michkov if he's there. If we don't win the lottery he's our best hope at elite talent and that's with all the uncertainty surrounding him. This rebuild is going to be a massive flop if we don't get a star forward somehow. I'm sick of our best scoring forward having < 70 points every year. It's pathetic.

Seems like a bunch of comments, mostly mine, were deleted. What’s the criteria for on-topic or off?

Moving on…

Who are your Do Not Drafts for irrational or petty reasons? Like I’ve said, Will Smith is on mine this year. Dvorsky I have legitimate doubts about.

Obliterated
Being 9th in scoring, 3 points behind your 15 YO teammate and a defender.

I always said stylistically (and of course chemistry wise) that Dvorsky between Slaf and Mesar makes a lot of sense. Maybe that’s what Hughes wanted. Why take the awkward loser two-way centre Wright when the year after you can take a guy that actually shows up when needed and fits your team. Logically it seems the pick will be between Dvorsky and Reinbacher.

There are a lot of possibilities besides the two you mention. First one being: what does the lottery bring. Second one will be what to do with Michkov. And then.... do we really want to force a D in a loaded F draft? I don't think anything feels settled at this point.

Honestly, if Florida makes it to the conference finals I think I'll throw up. There is going to be a caufield, pacioretty, guhle, type sitting at florida's pick inside the top 20. Outside the top 20, I feel like our odds of hitting on a 2nd rounder is just as likely this year.

Let's go Bruins!!!

Lottery notwithstanding I mean.

But I don’t think Michkov is an option for the Habs. I just don’t see it.

Benson with a goal and 2 assists yesterday GWG and EN assist.
They're going to sweep Saskatoon, which puts into perspective how good Yager's performance was as the 4th seed against such a loaded team.

If Kamloops (host) beat Seattle, Winnipeg will automatically qualify for the Mem Cup.

1. Smith is going 4th.
2. Michkov will drop way down because Habs and other early-pickings team cannot justify the risks.
3. No Reinbacher. Habs needs scoring forwards. Mailloux and Barron are our 1-2 RH D for this core.
4. With Suzuki, Dubois and Dach, and Beck, Dvorsky is not needed at C.
5. Benson is too small. Left-handed wingers competing to be part of the core: Slafkovsky, Roy, Farrell and Heineman. Benson has special skills, but not enough to justify the pick, and we are deep for his position.

Who are we left with if we pick 6th (most likely spot):
Leonard vs Wood
It will be one of these two. Brace yourself Habs fans.

As early as season 2024-2025, we could be icing something like this:
Caufield-Suzuki-Heineman (1st line)
Wood-Dach-Slakovsky (Real 1st line)
Anderson-Dubois-Farrell (In your face line, but can still score on you)
Ylonen-Beck-Roy (Better than they look line)

Panthers 1st pick + Mesar + Harris for Dubois

Picking for position is just bad. Pick the best player.

You don’t pass on a guy because he’s a center lol

A center can move to wing, things sort themselves out. Dach and Dubois can both play wing and Dvorsky can too though that would be a waste. Heck, imagine a Dubois-Dvorsky-Dach line. The triple Ds. Those three would complement each other beautifully while all being big bodies who can dominate in a cycle game.

Beck isn’t a top 6 centerman either, more of a 3rd C type.
