Lmao mans self-appoints a "big 6" and leaves Reinbacherr/ enson out of it

DLR was a better skater and had similar tools but he always had trouble offensively. Dvorsky has his shot and that should make him an okay to good offensive player alone.
You wanna bet?

My top 17 on April 27th...

  • Connor Bédard
  • Adam Fantilli
  • Leo Carlsson
  • Matvei Michkov
  • Will Smith
  • Zach Benson
  • Dalibor Dvorsky
  • Ryan Leonard
  • Oliver Moore
  • Brayden Yager
  • Andrew Cristall
  • Eduard Sale
  • Colby Barlow
  • Matthew Wood
  • David Reinbacher
  • Gabe Perreault
  • Riley Heidt
I'm not an expert, just curious: that Swedish dman didn't make it? No one from Sweden made it?

If we were picking 6 or 7....Leonard would be a great pick...he has skill, speed and grit.
I prefer him over Dvorsky.

Same here.. I just think athletically and skill-wise there is more to work with.

Would I be mad if Montreal thought differently? No.

The only guy I've seen in the top 10 on public lists that I'd be mad at picking is Barlow. Outside of that, there's no one consistently ranked in the top 10 that I would say, OK, I understand why they believe in this player.

Outside of Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, and Michkov, I think there are question marks for every other player consistently ranked in the top 10. I have doubts for each of them in terms of ceiling, but I think they have a good chance to be solid players. Star players, I think there's much less probability, which isn’t saying that it could not happen (cue the "so you're saying there's a chance meme).

Anyway, we're winning the lottery, so moot point.

We could have had Brady Tkachuk or Quinn Hughes in 2018.

We could have had Morgan Rielly, Hampus Lindholm, Jacob Trouba, Filip Forsberg in 2012.

We will see for 2022.

Is it really our "bad luck"?
easy to say this now but go back look at the threads nobody wanted them specially Brady he was getting tons of hate to the point that i didnt even like him and i never saw him play

Zadina was the pick the fans and the scouts had and he was a bust also

/r/habs in a full meltdown after someone submitted a picture of Hughes from a Slovak-Finland game with a title Hughes is watching Dvorsky

Barkovs offensive ceiling was never in doubt, not even up for debate. He was seen as an offensive dynamo. His skating was the only doubt about him.

There is no parallel to be drawn between Barkov and Dvorsky as prospect, and I quite like Dvorsky.
I'm not trying to compare Dvorsky to Barkov. I'm just pointing out that often this messageboard isn't aligned with NHL teams. Almost everyone here had Barkov ranked #4 and his skating was heavily criticized. Many thought Florida was crazy to take him ahead of Drouin and Jones.

I think we as fans and pundits value eye popping plays more than scouts, which is why Barkov was less valued than Jones and Drouin by many.

In retrospect, Barkov's 17 year old season in Liiga was worthy of No. 1 consideration.

No. Almost everyone had him ranked 2nd lol. Barkov was universally liked by pretty much all of us.

Nah, it was because he's not a play driver and a just a complementary player, which turns out is spot on.

I guess it's more fun trying to dunk on people 5 years later saying that he was your guy all along.
So true. Now everyone is like "Habs should have taken Tkachuk "

Meanwhile, back in the day nobody wanted him. Great point 👍👍👍

Dawg, go read your post. Not my fault you make things up in your mind.
?? You said people are claiming they were his guy 5 years ago right? There was just a poster who said that a little ways up how the Habs could have had Tkachuk, which was how all this hindsight talk started. You seemed to be agreeing that it's easier to claim he was your guy 5 years later. I'm not sure what I'm missing there?

Universal?? LOL! Jones and MacKinnon swapped the #1 and 2 spots back and forth all season. Drouin had a huge year (CHL player of the year) and massive playoff on Memorial Cup run. Barkov was flying low behind those 3 on this board and there was lots of surprise in here when he went #2. Even Bobby Mac's poll/rankings had Barkov #4.

When you say "we" or "people on this board", you know that refers to "we" or "people on this board" and not Button or Bob Mackenzie, right?

Barkov was HF habs sweetheart in 2013.

He also didnt fly under the radar, he literally had the greatest liiga draft season of all time lmao.
