His skating mechanics arent bad at all. He isnt an elite skater but he has great edge work and good straight line speed. I have watched his games, and you stating the fact that his mechanics are bad even with solid skating ability is a horrible take. Plus his IQ level easily makes up for this "problem" youve created.
His skating mechanics are disgusting. Probably worse in the first round.

Worst case scenario, we finish 6th and do really badly in the draft lottery.

Who do you guys take at 7th and 8th?

At that point is it still purely BPA or is it BPA with a bit of drafting for need mixed in?

Eh I think it's a bit harsh. Wood and Dragicevic (for whoever has him as a 1st) are way worse skaters than Smith is. He won't ever be a speedster or a figure skater and he doesn't need to be but his edge work is decent and his top speed is fine. And his skating deficiencies (first 3 steps, bending forward and cross overs) can be partially fixed (enough) upon gaining lower body strength and moving his feet a bit more, in my opinion.

It's hard to tell who will be available at 7 or 8, but they should go BPA (though it's suggestive because of different evaluation criteria). For me, if Reinbacher is still there at this rank then Hughes should sprint to the podium and yell his name out.

Oof a rough game. I don’t like the consistent disengagement. But keep in mind it’s a Recrutes video and Grant always has a motive so he’s obviously going to pick the worst game.
I was gonna say, Grant must not like him because he only posts good things about the guys he likes and ignores everything bad, and vice versa for the guys he doesn't like.

At 1 I take Bedard
At 2 I take Carlsson
At 5 i take Smith
At 6 I take Benson
At 7 i take Reinbacher
at 8 i take Leonard

Grant is useless. He's about as honest with his videos as a Tucker Carlsson segment.

The U18s and Worlds are going to be a huge evaluation event for a lot of prospects.

Smith and Dvorsky will be front and center. As will Moore and Leonard. Bjarnason and Hrabal in net.

But still, you really think this management team will pick somebody that high with questionnable compete or intensity? If that’s the case, Wright would have been our pick last summer. But he wasn’t.

I’m still sure that we won’t pick Smith or anybody with our first pick with those redflags.

We might as well start ranking our top 8 as it is the worst we will pick. For me I pick in this order. Separated by tiers.

#1 - Bedard - Obviously
#2 - Michkov - Bedard like upside

#3 - Fantilli
#4 - Carlsson

#5 - Benson
#6 - Reinbacher
#7 - Smith
#8 - Leonard

No matter what tonight. Montreal will still going to pick in top 8. Bottom 5 or Bottom 6? I don't care, we never know with lottery day. Bottom 5 can w, bottom 6 can w. Every 11 teams can WIN!

I'm really curious about Michkov. I think a lot of teams will be apprehensive, not necessarily due to discrimination (maybe some), but also just for the regular reasons that Russians have slipped in the draft every year.... which have been amplified now that there is even more pressure for them to stay in Russia and shun the West. It just adds more bust potential.

I personally don’t see them picking Smith, no. I think he profiles differently from what they are looking for. There’s a good chance they prefer Leonard from that team.

There is worse skater than him in the first round. Wood has okay technique, he just has lead skates.

Absolutely.

Pretty confident Leonard is higher on their list than Smith.

Sportsnet, or tsn, whichever one had the game yesterday showed a graphic. If the Habs stay 5th, their probability to pick innthe top 5 is around 42%. If they fall to 6th, the apparently probability that they pick 6th dropped to like 15%.

I would say just look at the chart there. New Jersey's odds would be ours at 5th, and Chicago's would be ours at 6th. I think not passing Arizona is incredibly important for us at this point.

Word.

There's a 68% chance a team not 1st, or 2nd gets to move up.

However, assuming no one moves, staying 5th, or worst case Ontario, 7th is ideal.

At 5th, Habs likely draft 5th, or 6th.

It's all miniscule and 1 spot, but that 1 spot could be huge.

Lose this game, wait a month and hopefully be talking about who to take 5th.

I would secure Reinbacher 1st with our pick since he wont last long and grab best foward available with the Pants pick.
If Bedard Fantilli Michkov Carlsson and Smith are picked, I'm all for picking Reinbacher. It would make Savard expandable for a decent return in a year and I'm confident there will be 2 good forwards at 20ish and even 37.
If Smith is there you pick him. The ceiling is too high to pass up. I see a better version of Zegras.

I think i’d take Wood.

But guys like Wood, But and Honzek are the guys i would look at in that range if no one major is slipping the ranking.
Honzek has a more projectable pro game, but if Wood can improve his skating (a lot), watch out, he could be a huge steal.

There is a lot of talk about Dvorsky for no reason, they are not picking another forward from Europe that plays in mens league unless his name is Carlsson or Michkov.

I think they will be aiming for prospect that has a good season in North America. So i think Sale and Dvorsky are very unlikely getting picked unless they have historical performance in U18.

But wouldn't it be typical if they skip both of them and they become stars.
Habs will take the BPA wherever they pick. Habs could be picking 7th or 8th depending on how tonight's games go and the lottery. Dvorsky will be in the picture in that range and he should be. He's one of the youngest in the draft, has shone offensively when playing against his age group, played a terrific shutdown game in the WJC, plays a premium position, and in my opinion is being underrated here because people are looking at his stats as a 17-year old in a men's league.

Odds are against the Habs having a shot at Carlsson. Unfortunately there are a lot of non-hockey related factors that will go into considering Michkov.

Taking Reinbacher in front of Benson and Leonard is complete BS.

Yea, i’m certain Leonard will be something special for the team that pick him.
