2023 NHL Entry Draft

Nah man... we don't deserve good things here. We'll ruin them. If Michkov comes here, it will be a career killer.

Ovechkin would not have succeeded here.

Kovalev was traded away immediately after Gillett sold the club.

Its not happening.

Carlsson is the best bet for Montreal because he's got everything we want and needed.

Even Bedard would probably not work here because of the toxicity from the Media.

Carlsson, we must do everything we can to get Carlsson, trade up if we have to. He's a must for us.
Carey Price had pretty decent career if you ask me..... and we can say this about many cities whove never had a star in ages.... Did Matthews crumble under the even bigger and tougher Toronto microscope? No.

Cities and their media dont affect generational type talents. Its a dumb myth we use as an excuse here. THe problem is the Habs never had the opportunity to draft a generational talent. Their 2 highest picks ended out being average in Galchenyk and KK, just as many 3rd overall picks have.... THey just cant screw it up this time, cus God knows when theyll pick this high again.

If HuGo know that the deal for PLD is done prior to the draft (but completed there for the show), then I would absolutely draft Michkov. With PLD, Cole, Suzuki, Dach and Slaf in the top 6, they can surely wait. And once he crosses over, Mtl will be a contender.

There are too many pieces missing right now, specially at the back end. But once we half suck another season, then we will get all the pieces in place and then we will be a pretender 1-2 years before he joins us. And voilà!
the back end will be years until they hit their peak and prime. Habs are at least 4-5 years away from contending (if they do).

ANd if they do land PLD, the bigger concern will be fitting everyone in 5-6 years.

Suzuki, Caufield, PLD will all be int he longterm $8-9M range.

and then you have: the 2023 pick(s), Dach, Salfkovsky, Guhle, Hutson, Mailloux who will all make decent money after signing their first contract after ELC.

and then there whoever the goalie will be, other UFAs who always cost more.

Unless the cap goes up dramatically, they just cant keep everyone.

The Russian situation is fair to not take him with a top 3 pick. I don't see why you wouldn't take him after that. You either get a superstar if he comes over or a player that should be the 3rd best forward on a contender. I'm ok with having the 1st not turn to anything and we miss out on a good but not great player, I am not ok drafting a good but not great player and missing out on a superstar.

Sign me up for Carlsson and Cristall as our picks, but I doubt Chicago goes D here. They're rebuilding in a draft with a bunch of potential superstar forwards. They're not skipping on both Carlsson and Michkov.

At this point I'm hoping for the following: Carlsson > Michkov > Benson to drop to us. I'd be really happy with any 3.
Plus they went D last year with Korchinski and Rinzel. They have next to no fire power up front, Nazar and Reichel are both great but they need more.

OBVIOUSLY not saying we should pick him at 5....but I see him late 25 and I think it's a mistake.

Not for me, I've got him at 48. I've got a lot of players ahead of him that have better defining traits and/or aren't small.

Playing exclusively with Fantilli after the WJC isn't enough to make me overhype the kid.

Our Pick (assuming 5-7):
Michkov (if he falls)
Reinbacher
Benson

Florida Pick (12-15)
Wood
Barlow
Moore
Honzek
Danielson
Leonard (if he's available, but I doubt it)

If Florida makes the playoffs I would have no problem trading the pick for Dubois, but that's looking a lot less likely now. There are just so many interesting forwards that will be available in that range I think we should probably hang on to it and either package something else for PLD or just wait a year.
Baring top 4, Reinbacher/Benson/Smith and Wood/Barlow/Leonard would have me very happy.

Im not the biggest Smith fan, but I can't deny the upside.

If they trade a top 20 pick for Dubois, whom I love, I will riot.

2024 picks + Harris should be more than enough.

 I know...

Heavy feet in the same mold as Geekie, I just cant see the Habs picking a bad skater.

Geekie is a better skater than Wood. Wood is a better skater than Robertson was in his draft year, and with the emphasis on skills teaching and whatever gospel Adam Nicholas has, I don't see why not.

He has best player in the draft upside.

Brindley not dynamic? 10 guys like him in the draft, it wont age well...
He is not. He makes a lot of cutbacks, skates around in circles a lot but thats not being dynamic. Its something a lot of new and or bad scouting persons do. Cutbacks are nice, they are not however a sign of dynamism. Neither is circling around the zone with the puck and never finding the inside. (Moore).

His tools are going to limit him, he's not a good shooter, his playmaking is good but somewhat unimaginative and his size is going to limit him for sure. The upside is a Gallagher type of player without the sandpaper, thats not dynamic. Maybe a guy like Zuccarelo if he finds new skills along the way, but were reaching I think.

Moore, Lardis, Sawchyn, Heidt, Perron, Perrault, Molgaard and even Mukhanov all have similar strengths to Brindley.

Consensus seems to be Benson is better but idk.... is he really?

The size and skating is a tiny bit worrisome isn't it ?
Benson doesn't have skating concerns.

Its Bensons size vs Smiths passiveness/sawft play.

Strengths are similar, etc. Two high-end offensive players. Do you want the 5'10 Benson or the Sawft as butter Smith?

Smith is too much like Suzuki and Benson is too much like Farrell, IMO. Sucks but it is what it is.

Maybe they are shopping Primeau for the Jets! :sarcasm:

I'm surprise you did not write: Florida first round pick + Primeau for PLD.:laugh:

Relax. I don't think we are shopping Primeau+ for Hart. I guess I should have used the sarcasm emoji for you in particular.

NO, I'm not surprised I didn't ever include Primeau in any Dubois package offers. You may think you have me figured out but you don't

If this is your focus, avoid me. Your post is strictly belittle narrative.

This is why I hope we win the lottery and draft Bedard. No need for extra drama.

We all hope we get Bedard or Fantilli. But we need to be prepared if we don't. Why is it drama if we don't get Bedard?

I'm not much of a prospect guy but from what I gather, he definitely doesn't play like he's 5'10". Honestly, I want a C prospect as we haven't had an elite C in my lifetime.
Neither are likely to be elite Cs.

To me the only potential elite center past Carlsson is Cristall.

I think there is a better chance that Wood or Dvorsky are elite centers than these two.
