KHL fell off hard

Only want goalies

I dont look at KHL stats and no one should.... all I go by is what the experts say, and knowing what Panarin and Kaprizov are doing now after developing over there.

What if the Habs trade their pick and their 2nd first rounder for someone like Carlsson?

problem is you cant keep all that talent on top of Guhle, Hutson, Mailloux, Harris, (UFA goalie)

PLD contract would be too much a problem.
maybe depends on alot of things but Michkov and Hutson will be in their ELCs i doubt Harris is still here in 3 years and Mailloux will not be worth that much yet he just signed hes ELC last year plus cap will be higher in 3 years i dont think it would be too much of a problem

Well, I don't know that the missing piece is a small Russian winger, tbh.
if experts are calling him close to generational talent, and we can forget Bedard/Fanitili/Carlsson at this point.... then yes Id be all in for him. Hes 5'10 and and would bulk up to 175, very similar to Panarin.

They have Dach and Slafkovsky as big men too who could play with him.

Y'all need to let Michkov go.. there's very little chance we'd ever select him.
many rankings have him falling to 5th

Don't touch Michkov with a 100 ft pole. The kid will never come over to play at NHL level.
says who? 95% of the best Russians come to play here.

but they will eventually sign their first deal after ELC. Trust me the Habs arent winning before that.

Let's go all Slovak this draft

#6 = Dvorsky
#15 = Honzek
#37 - Strbak

Huge no on Dvorsky at 6.
Honzek at 15 is great.
37 for Strbak.. no thanks, he can't even produce in the USHL lmfao.

Brindley is the guy that makes no sense to pick early.....but we will wonder why the heck he wasn't...

Small hockey player who will play a complementary game? Got RHP in round 7, no thanks.

if only the draft could go that way..

What a terrible mock.

tbf,

I agree with you, I want Michkov as well.

I like to play devil's advocate though.

I can actually see KH drafting Michkov if they feel he really is the best player at the spot, however if we draft low enough (5,6,7) there is probably some North American player they like enough to select over Michkov and his uncertainties though.

2022 (when things weren't even as bad as they were now)
Report out of Russia - Habs and Philly won't be drafting Russians.
Hughes was asked about whether that report was true.
Instead of flat out denying that report, Hughes said "we interviewed a Russian here today", which is a russian playing in the CHL as no KHL/MHL/VHL Russians were at the combine. Presumably that player was Mintyukov.
2022 draft, with a bevvy of picks, they did not select one single Russian.

We have more evidence to support the report out of Russia than we do that it is not true.. and Hughes' agent like answer tells me that they are not taking Russians out of Russia.

I mean tbh,

Think about it, from a business perspective (and this is a note to everyone).

Russian players can use the "bolt to KHL card" if they aren't happy...

If you're managing that player, it can't be a great feeling knowing they can hold that over you if they wish...

I have nothing against drafting Smith or Benson (likely after the big 4). I mean, sure they could end out being a big surprise, and eventual 85+P players, enough to make the Habs contenders one day.

But I think Michkov is the more "sure bet elite talent". Smith or Benson are more likely to be Suzuki-like talents, and wouldnt be enough to win. Thats what I think.

yeah Ive heard this.... sucks if true. But Michkov could be the big exception knowing his talent.

How is Suzuki not elite or at least trending to become elite soon? His production has improved year over year along with his play in general. Even with a bad team that has been seriously depleted by injuries all season he is still at 23 goals and 61 points in 74 games so should end up at around 67-68 points this season. All things considered not bad at all and I still think if people can stay healthier next season will be his breakout year.

Elite to me is a consistent 85+P player

At age 23 (24 in Aug) Suzuki wouldve/shouldve shown signs of that by now, which is not the case.... at all.

You dont win the Cup with 70 point players. You win with top players in the game..... Mackinnon, Makar, Rantanen, Kucherov, Hedman, Vasi, Point, Ovi, (Trotz), Crosby, Malkin, Kane, Keith, Kopitar, Doughty etc etc

Why? He's not dynamic, he doesn't have the tools to be a big producer and he's small as hell.

There's like 10 guys like him in the draft.

if only the draft could go that way..

Lmao thats amazing. Picking Reinbacher 3rd would be criminal offense and Simashev at 6 ? I guess Slaf just went at 1st so anything is possible with low production.

So I guess RNH is elite because he, for the first time in his career, has over 90 points this season at age 29 soon to be 30 in last 2 weeks...Don't see how Suzuki has not shown the he can be an elite center. Using your simplistic definition I am not even sure how many supposed elite centers there are in the league, not many if you remove the one time 90+ point guys.

Don't think the Habs take him. The situation with Russia is too hot right now. Habs don't need to bring heat on themselves with that. I'm willing to bet 20$ that he's never a hab.

There is ZERO indication that the conflict in Ukraine has negatively effected Russian hockey players AT ALL.

Because for some reason, people expect him to score 30+ and get 80+ playing with a rotating cast of wingers, many of which have been AHL players.

Bizarre to say the least
