Well as much as I'm not a fan.....when McCagg starts SUDDENLY preferring a player, it's not that he prefers it..it's because he hears stuff. I will always believe that the guy is putrid in prospect evaluation BUT I also believe he has his contacts. Until proven otherwise, he talks a lot about Dvorsky, somebody in the Habs like him very much.....
If they relatively even in skill, draft Dvorsky. gives the team the Slovakia chemistry edge.

Let’s say we have pick 5 and 15.
You draft Benson at 5 (or wish for Michkov) and work your ass up to move up from 15 up to between 7-9 and pick Reinbacher (for all of the Reinbacher lover here).

We have what it take to go up from 15 to 7.

I would secure Reinbacher 1st with our pick since he wont last long and grab best foward available with the Pants pick.

Other than exposure, what's missing for Reinbacher? He doesn't have the same physical or skillset limitations we're seeing from nearly every other player 5-15 and it looks like he's got the clearest path to being a solid NHL player outside of this year's top-4. I can't speak to other leagues, but from what I've seen, he'd be far and away the best overall, most translatable defenceman in the WHL. It wouldn't even be very close as he's way ahead of Dragicevic, Molendyk, and Hammell in multiple facets of the game.

If he was playing in Canada/USNDP, I think he'd be a lock as a top-10 pick.

What are your thoughts on Mathew Wood? Seems like the type this management team might like... reminds me a bit of Blake Wheeler...?

Who was your own pick? That draft is a black hole, only notable name we missed on is Theodore.

Theodore was my pick actually. No idea why Montreal didn't draft him. Ditto Kreider. I thought for sure we'd take them. I also was really high on ROR & Jenner too. Same draft. I remember a lot on here didn't want Jenner. Lol

McCarron was completely out of left field, and moving up for Tinordi was the stupidest move ever.

You got that right.

Its just exposing the horrible ass scouting every where on the web and in the NHL, even.

There is nothing missing. He has it all and people are trying to outsmart themselves with the likes of Simashev, who cant even outproduce f***ing Reinbachers NL production in the friggin MHL of all leagues, lmao.

Realistically, the only thing "missing" is that he bobbles the puck a bit, hes not an A+ puck handler at speed. Aside from that nope, hes there, hes it.

I love Wood. Hes 10th on my list. He plays just like Kovalev (not quite the same hands, of course), hes a bull on skates, can stick handle in a box, his shot is a threat from anywhere and he pulls passes off increible vision.

He does seem a bit trigger happy and of course, hes slow.

Yeah his movement is a bit cumbersome, but he manages to get there. It's always a bit hard to tell with big guys at this age. I like his dangle and he sees the ice pretty well. This is going to be a really fun draft! :)

That’s a pretty good track record!

So…who you liking this year? Lol

It depends on where we pick. We can still win the lottery, which makes it pretty easy.

We can still fall back to 8th as Detroit is now only 5 points up and are playing like shit. 3 wins since ASG. Holy f*** that team has completely given up.

Season can't end soon enough.

I do know I'm not on the Barlow or Dvorsky hate train. I don't agree that Barlow won't score in NHL. He's not a 40+ goal scorer, but he'll get to 30 one day. 30g, 30a and a two-way board beast.

Dvorsky is putting up better numbers than Kopitar did in U20 in Sweden. He's too good for his age group, but isn't quite there against men, so can definitely look pedestrian in Allsvenskan. But that's what development is about.

Kopitar only played U20 in is draft year, while Elias Pettersson only played Allsvenskan in his draft year. Dvorsky is no where close to what Pettersson put up and doesn't have the skating. But, Kopitar is always on the back of mind with Dvorsky. There are similarities: needs skating work, good positionally, good on faceoffs, has a big shot, good on PP. It was easier to see Kopitar's dynamism against his own age group. It's harder to see Dvorsky's against men.

But, Dvorsky destroyed Hlinka has an underager in 2022. 12 pts in 5 games. He has 21 pts in 10 games in u18 in Sweden.

3 pts in 5 games for a u18 at WJC is also solid, and the kid showed incredible competitiveness. There's a lot to like about Dvorsky. We'll see what he does at this year's U18s.

For the 3 US NTDP, I've liked Leonard since last year's U18. In pre-season, I had Moore, Smith, Leonard, but now it's Leonard. There's pretty much nothing about his game I don't love. If we don't draft him, I'll definitely be interested to see who does & follow his career for a little bit. He's also going NCAA, which means we can't force him into the lineup.

I also like Reinbacher, and I think he can play in Laval next year if we do draft him. I would like to keep both picks, but we'll see what happens with PLD.

Hear me out.

Assuming the Habs draft 4-7th, so no: Bedard, no Fantili, no Carlsson.... and chances are (I think) the Habs arent getting a top 4 pick in 2024 as they get better.

The Habs ONLY chance at getting top elite talent is Michkov this summer. They have 2 very good centres going forward in Suzuki and Dach, although unfortunately not elite. If they miss out on Michkov, theyd land either Smith or Benson most probably, and yes, they could be VERY good too, but a tier below Michkov's talent, imo.

Cup winners dont win with very good players, they win with ELITE talent (STL being the only exception really). EVEN if they land PLD, hes not "elite". Its another Suzuki with a big contract, which eventually leads to another playoff team that never contends with the big dogs.

If they pick 5th, pray he falls a spot. The Habs need MICHKOV.... I dont care if hes 2-3 years away from coming here. The Habs arent contending for at least 4 years anyway.
