He has a good chance to be a first liner. Id compare him to Zibanejad, maybe.

Cant we drop to 8 if two teams win above us?
Being 8th means we would be where the Canucks are. Canucks have 5 points more and a game in hand. We aren't catching them. People here are worried that a team who has 2 wins in their last 11 games is going to go on a tear, it's so unnecessarily dramatic.

He will never be a 1st liner. I dont touch him.
There is no indication why Dvorsky could never be a 1st liner. He made very good progress this year, but people are usually just looking at points. Even in this field, he progressed, he is 2ppg in U20, same as Carlsson last year (being 6 months younger than Carlsson). He improved his defensive play significantly which is very genuine for 17y kid in his draft year.
It is just crazy that after all those years people do not see the difference between major juniors and pro hockey in Europe path for young prospects. In their draft year, those are 17y kids coming to men league. Pro teammates, experienced opponents, it is very difficult to establish at that age.
Most of NA kids start their pro career at 20 and still struggle to adjust. We will see how Kidney, Roy, Farrell, Struble adjust to pro next season.

I know the difference between the leagues and while its not impossible that Dvorsky becomes a 1st liner, it looks less and less likely than it has over the last 3 years he's been on the radar.

You are right. And may i add,

Every f***ing draft, every single year, some player picked 5-10 outplays some player picked 1-5.

I mean, its nice if we win the lottery, Bedard or Fantilli/Carlsson would be game changer. But lets in fact not get dramatic over a spot or two in the draft after the lottery.

Its not about picking 5 instead of 8. Its all about picking the right player in the right spot.

I understand the earlier you pick, the better chance you can have **your guy**. But this is all about preference and subjectivity and nothing concrete.

Dallas signs undrafted Chase Wheatcroft to a 3 year ELC. I like the way he plays, is he going to make the NHL one day, who knows but that’s the kind of player we should of gone after.

The guys projected in that range sure don't really look like it. As long as it's not Barlow or ASP I can live with most choices.

Id like to take him. But make up my mind for sure after U18

If Bedard scored 1 goal these final 2 games, he would have averaged a goal per game and 2 points per game his 3 year junior career. McDavid never did it. On a good team. Crosby scored 2 points per game, but not the goals.

I think the Habs management believes we have enough small guys....Caufield, Farrell, Gallagher, Harvey-Pinard, Hudson...may choose to avoid Benson altogether...prefer Smith...slightly bigger.
Personally, you go with the best player available.

At 5 if Mich is there i would run to the podium

If not its between Yager and Benson for me as time pass but what happened to Benson lately... hes not tall also...and we neeeeeed goal

Great release, can score on the rush, can provoke turn over and he has show he can do other other things than putting it in the net.

Anyway after the top 3 it Will take time before they even sniff the NHL

I don't think they care since only Caufield and Farrell are top 9 and Hutson is a defenseman.

Posted this in the Race for Bedard thread but probably belongs here..

Is Jarvis comparable to Benson in terms of potential for a undersized forward?
* Who do we draft if Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, Michkov, and Smith are off the board at 6th pick?
* Would you trade down to 12-15 range to get Reinbacher?
* What addition futures do we get from trading 6 for a pick in the 12-15 range? 2nd rounder and more?
* Don't hate Benson but I do hate the idea of adding Benson on top of Caufield, Farrell, Hutson.

I'd take Michkov if he slips but not sure I'd take Benson. I don't think he will be better than a Jarvis type.

See post right before this one. I do wonder who we draft if we are at 6 and Smith is taken already.

I'm curious to see the scouting comments between a guy like Jarvis in the NHL and how he compares to Benson? Personally, I like Michkov's top line potential more than Benson.

I think Benson slips. I guess we get to see him in the U18's? His first international tournament and the only other sample we have other than WHL is the Hlinka Gretzky cup.

Yes theyre both comparable. I think Benson is more creative.

Reinbacher or Benson.

Reinbacher isnt gonna be there past 10.
