San Jose - Kahkonen, 4th signed trade (?) Reimer 4th signed (?)
Columbus - Merzlikins 3rd, Tarasov 3rd, Hutchinson 3rd (signed?)

Unsigned, signed = They weren't drafted, but signed by a different team and then signed with their current team.

I might have forgotten, or mixed up how each team got their goalies, but for the most part, there's no real need to trade up to get a goalie. Picking a goalie in the 2nd, or 3rd seems to generate the best results.

Now there are goalies like Askarov, Cossa, Wallstedt that are first round picks that aren't with their team currently.

I've also shared earlier that 1st round picked goalies rarely have won the cup over the past 40, 50 years.

Habs are better off to use their 2nd, or even 3rd on a goalie it would seem. No need to trade up for anyone.
Great post

It's crazy how I'm not even thinking of Bedard in this draft as our chances are slim regardless of where we finish. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to get Bedard, but I'm being realistic too. I really want a chance at Fantilli, Carlsson, Bedard or Smith. I love Michkov, but I'm an impatient asshole, and don't want to wait 3 years.

I agree overall, THAT SAID...

I would take the chance at Michkov at say 4, 5 or 6 and above.

If you need to wait 3 years, that is fine.

Which is? Who is bpa at 5?
After the big 4, we enter another tier of players with about the same talent level, thats why size, IQ, motor enter into the equation. Reinbacher and Dvorsky are my 2 favorites. Dvorsky is producing more than Benson in J20 despite playing for a bottom tier team while Benson has much better supporting cast.

I'm leaning towards Benson myself as I see Benson as the driving force for his team. It would really suck to miss out on the top 4.

That’s exactly right. I have a thing called a life so a don’t have the time, skills or inclination to devote every working hour of my time to individually scout and rank every prospect and in the world. As a result, I rely on the research from a collection of scouts and analysts whose profession it is to do the aforementioned tasks. After they do all the heavy lifting, I’ll read and go over their comprehensive work to come to a conclusion of my own along with some casual watching of hockey info for fun.

What do you do??
This is so condescending. Relax.

For 2nd-3rd rounds:

Kalan Lind (F) - Red Deer Rebels (WHL)
Coulson Pitre (C) - Flint Firebirds (OHL)
Ethan Miedema (LW) - Kingston Frontenacs (OHL)
Kasper Halttunen (RW) - HIFK (Liiga - Finland)
Nico Myatovic (LW) - Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
Jaden Lipinski (C) - Vancouver Giants (WHL)

I think we're missing the obvious one, Carosn Rehkopf, he has more of a power forward game than most of these guys

Don't really see him as an energy forward type. In any case, I was looking at players who would be more unknown and not likely to be in 1st round.

Rehkopf is probably going late 1st or early 2nd, so I didn't bother to include him, like I didn't bother to include Barlow.

what's the word on Ethan Miedema, he's a a big boy that was traded from Spitfires to the Frontenacs. The #'s aren't impressive but I see he was a 4th OA pick in the O. He scored last night, goal starts at the 2:20 mark.

I know the Frontenacs have a number of players eligible for the draft but I was just focused on Mailloux so I'm not sure if I got much footage of Outwater or anyone else.

Where do you see Ethan Miedema going? Mid round pick? His numbers decent with Spitfires but fell off chart with Kingston. A sign not right fit. Maybe we get him in third-fourth round?

I would go like that

bedard,
michkov
fantilli,
carlson
benson
smith
yager
perreault
From 5-12th doesn't seem much difference in them. Maybe Habs trade down 4 or 5 slots, pick up last first or early 2nd?

Not an expert by any stretch, just a fan who has been following drafts with great interest for the last 30 or so years. As of right now we are assured of top 7. This is very likely subject to change but my current top 7 as of March 19...

1. Bedard
2. Fantilli
3. Carlsson
4. Benson
5. Smith
6. Reinbacher
7. Michkov
Drafting Reinbacher before Michkov would be like drafting Brett Pesce before Panarin.

Smith would be great but might not be worth it enduring the Fresh Prince jokes.

If I were him I'd insist on being called William.
I'd go with Bill, therefore... Billy Smith. One slapper for a batshit puncher and slasher. Seems appropriate.

Just a thought: I think drafting Mailloux burned up all the public backlash ammo the org could muster... I think Michkov might be too hot a commodity to touch.

Why would there be public backlash? Anyone putting the weight of Putin’s decisions on an 18-year-old hockey player just because of where he was born is doing some serious mental gymnastics.

I think there might be some sensabilities there, whether we like it or not. War is a pretty big thing, fair or not to the individuals not involved in the conflict, just like the players not being part of WJC and other sporting events.

I'm commenting on what the org might feel they can't touch. It will be a discussion I am sure of it.

There’s a huge difference between excluding Russian teams and organizations in which they’re there to specifically represent their nation, and excluding a Russian person in a situation in which they represent only themselves.

One of these things sends a political message, the other is discrimination.
