I agree and i also agree with other posters who say we pick the best player available. But if Reinbacher is there, for me it's an automatic yes. As for ASP, i think this is where the ??? begin because some mock drafts consider him the best D in this draft and even, some pencil him as a top 10 pick.
Pick anyone else (Fantilli and Carlsson) and I select Reinbacher. But Bedard is the type of player that can score 40 goals by Year 2 and you need to take advantage of the ELC. You can’t wait for Reinbacher and ASP to develop.

I'm not super high on any of those. Not all our prospects will make it.

Trudeau did well at camp, I have some hopes there.

Struble I need to see more of.

Engstrom, not sure where he fits given our needs. We have a forest of good D talent, we need one great talent to make them all better, and that's about it.
And Hutson? He could be our PP specialist with Mailloux.

But I agree. We need a 1rst pair D, if possible.

We just need star talent disregard the position. Bedard and Fantilli would likely end our rebuild because it would put Caufield, Suzuki, Dach and Slafkovsky in the right chair.

If we hit a star on D (i don't think there is in this draft) we will have a f***ing strong d-core but i think we will be okay even without it.

If we are to miss on the lottery, which is very likely, i would say f*** Dubois (he won't move the needle enough). Lets go for Pastrnak who is a real superstar

Hey is it possible to win both lottery picks? One from our pick and the other from FL?

Yep.

Perfect year to win twice too.
The next draft will be one that will be hard to evaluate so there will be tons of good players in the late first and 2nd rounds, with a "good" top 5, without a generational player. So it's better to win this year - I don't think Celebrini, Vaisainen or Levshunov are in the Bedard/Michkov range.

Hutson as you say, as a PP specialist, but those generally run the 2nd units and your star D runs the first unit. I don't think Guhle is that guy, I think Guhle is our PK guy.
PP specialists are usually on the first unit or in the AHL. Teams don't bring up crappy dmen to play on the 2nd PP unit that hardly sees the ice.

If Lane Hutson is not on our top PP unit that would very likely mean that he is not in the NHL altogether.

I know this is a 2023 Draft thread, but that Macklin Celebrini kid is torching the USHL at 16 years old. He has 35 Goals and 27 Assists in 37 games...and he has 15 goals in his last 10 games.
And because he’s a 2006 born player I think he has to go back to the USHL next season rather than the NCAA.

He might be better served going to Europe but I’m not sure of the rules for that.

You need to draft D and yes, they almost always need time to develop. Drafting a D man in the 2nd round next year won’t develop the D corp faster then drafting a guy n the first round this year.

If you need immediate help you dip into the trade market.

Yeah, he's the presumptive #1 for 2024 draft. Cole Eiserman (LW) is his challenger.

TBH I am quite bullish on our defensive prospect depth. Would be kinda disappointed if we took a D. Unless Reinbacher is CLEAR BPA I would much prefer a forward.

Or we have a Karlsson type...

Many possibilities and each player is different. I think Lane driving our 2nd unit is how we should see him, because if Lane drives our 1st unit, I don't think we are a top team because Lane will never be Makar, Hedman, etc style of D.
