Same, as I said before, he'd be the missing piece to our PP configuration without knowing who else we are getting at the drop of the draft.

Hutson QB
Mailloux trigger man
Caufield one-timer
Wood net-front
Dach half-wall
this draft could change this team!! Adding 2 potentially top 6 F or top 4D is huge!

But you forgot Bedard. I think putting the 2nd PP with Suzuki and Slafkovsky might be fine, though. ;)

Ryan Leonard is the player that Habs will be very happy to draft after that top 6.

He fit perfectly on MSL mentality, he have oustanding potential at NHL level.

To me he is very close to Zach Benson, so that would be a very good consolation prize. Right now he is my #7 without a doubt.

If you check Mailloux's games, you will see that he's the one-timer man also on the powerplay.

What kind of question is that

It's just the skill vs size debate reframed, which is more of a question for mid/late round picks. You can draft a small skilled guy who could have a 2023 level Drouin or Dadanov impact, or a physical no talent guy who has a 2023 Pezzetta level impact.

Obviously in the top-15 none of the players we're be considering should end up this bad, you hope everyone becomes a top-6 player. If we pick Wood, Dvorsky, or Sale, it's not because we see them as future 4th liners.

Am I missing something with Matthew Wood? Why is he not ranked higher? Many have him outside top 15-20...

Almost PPG in the NCAA as 18 y old Freshman AND top scorer on his own team. Really strong in the BCHL at 17 y old with a goal per game rate.

6'3.

He looks like Matt Boldy 2.0 to me. Am I wrong?

I mean, I like small skilled forwards like Benson, Cristall, Barlow and co., but this is the guy I'd target personally just on a stats/size combo. Granted I'm no scout and I've only seen highlights of his play...

What do you guys think?

Bad skating man skate bad. That's the only reason he isn't ranked higher. I personally have him top 10.

Another overager we should be looking at is Hunter Mayo (RD), Red Deer. He has as many assists this year as he did points last year (17). He also has 14g. He's impressed me every time I watch Red Deer for Lind. He's an 04, who was another one passed over in 2022 draft.

There's also Kai Uchacz, a scoring center who has exploded this year. He has 41 goals after only 33 pts last year. He's absolutely running the show in Red Deer. Has good size too.

Frantisek Formanek is definitely going to be on my rounds 4-7 target list in 23, along with Lind (for our 2nd round pick). Formanek has been explosive this year while driving a ton of inside play.

I'm still on the Dach as a shutdown winger (Mark Stone?) train. And Suzuki's game does not suit the wing at all IMO.

It's nice to have the flexibility to allow us to draft BPA and shuffle guys around in case of injury. But I think his boardplay, reach, playmaking are all better utilized from the wing.

Slaf/Cristall/PLD - PLD/Smith - Caufield
Benson/Dvorsky/Slaf - Suzuki - Dach
Please, is it possible to stop with the PLD as a Habs until it's done...

Wouldn't say he looks like Boldy, as Boldy's skating was one of his strengths, and Wood plays a more simplified game. I had Boldy at 6th in a stacked draft and I should've put him higher.
That's not to say Wood can't be a value pick somewhere. Bit high for our pick IMO but would be a homerun at FLO's 1st.

I'd be ecstatic if we came out with a combination of Smith/Reinbacher + Wood

Florida's pick has good odds to be top 16 since they are still behind in the PO race, so if that's the case it looks likely that Wood is available at that pick if current draft lists are to be believed.

Could be a riser as well, and you just need 1 team to like him enough to go top 10, but I like the idea to be bigger upfront with guys like Caufield and Farrell in the top 9.

I would not be surprised if he's 6 to 8 on our list

People are scared by his below-average skating but its not actually that bad. He gets where he needs to go and he's a train on skates. Think Kovalev like skating when he got older. He also had insanity hands, sick ass shooting, underrated passing and hes a heavy player. Hed fit in like a glove in our team makeup.

I prefer him to Barlow. Barlow, Wood and Dvorsky are all picks that fit in really well if theyre still there with Floridas.

he's slow as shit

Haven't seen the Huskies, what's the take on Daniil Bourosh

For the 7th round RHP, Simoneau, Tourigny, who are some names, would Maxime Pellerin be one?

Would you draft Michkov if he is available with him having 3 more years in the KHL?
Depends where we pick. If it's 7th or 8th and he slips to that rank, absolutely.

HuGo would still need to add a top-6 forward (preferably a C) and a top-4 RHD from outside the system. Then, waiting for Michkov wouldn't prevent the rest of the youngsters to be developed properly until Michkov's arrival.

Michkov coming over later and him still needing to play out his ELC could be a huge Cap advantage for Montreal at that point. It would be like signing a young, impact UFA for a steal of a deal over three years (or two, if they somehow get Michkov to burn a year off his ELC - I think it would be possible because the KHL starts earlier than the NHL and ends earlier, I think)?

Assuming the top-6 player is Dubois, as an example and the top-4 RHD is Grans, still as an example. In 2026 -2027, when Michkov arrives in Montreal, the team should look something like this:

Caufield - Suzuki - Dach
Slafkovsky - PLD - Mesar
Farrell - Beck - Roy
RHP - Evans - Heineman

Easily, Michkov takes the 2nd line RW position and a decision will be made as to whom plays where between Mesar, Farrell, Roy, RHP and Heineman after that.

The smaller Michkov will be well supported by Slafkovsky and Dubois on his line, IMO.

And, God forbid he signs another extension, the Habs should not be completely screwed either, if player development goes according to plan.

Then, Michkov's arrival in 5 or 6 years would be a huge boon for a team close to the cap ceiling.

Say we draft Bedard, and the Florida pick is top 10, do we look for a very good dmen via trade or we draft and wait?

No name in my head but wonder if they would explore that avenue with a talent like Bedard coming right away, personally i would at least see if i can get a top 2 dmen for the pick +

Pick a top 15 player and be gone with it. Remember Edmonton. You still have to surround that player.

Beyond that, sure, try it maybe. No quick fix though, quality. Theres an influx of talent comijg in the near future. Roy, Farrel, Mailloux, Mesar, Beck, Hutson, Dobes, Heineman, Primeau, Rohrer, Engstrom, Tuch, Mysak, SStruble. There is no room for quick fixes.

The relatively small difference between him and the next player is not worth the hassle. Besides, a player like him if he really prefers the KHL to the NHL is probably not the right guy to bet on.

If we draft Bedard, i believe we should spend to the cap(wisely). Our rebuild would be over with Bedard and we would be ready to compete again.

I think the same hold true for Fantilli and Michkov. (Obviously the latter is not coming next year tho).
