I'm not worried about drafting another small guy. I'd rather have a small skilled top 6 forward or middle 6 forward than a big no talent 4th liner.

My guess is the Habs end up with one of them.

Just finished watching this game.

He played 3LW/PP2 and looked noticeably quicker (or have I been watching too much USNTDP?). Still a PP wizard, excellent finisher and he doesn't turn 18 till this summer.
Dvorskys?
I will say i do like Leonard at 7. I have him there right behind Reinbacher and just above Benson.
Smith at 5?

Can I let you in to one of my favorites in this years ?

Yeah, he was one of my targets for 4th-7th round in 2022. He was in my mentions that I do near draft. He, Davidson & Guindon actually.

Gawd, can you imagine picking this guy in 6th round in 2022? Lmao. Really don't get why he went undrafted. He had 23 goals in 58 games. He has decent size, good skater. Really weird one.

Belarus is my guess.

Hes basically 3 months older than Danielson and Brindley ? Plays a power game, insane inside game, no real weakness, good size, he's an absolute animal, actually has fought in the WHL. Actually outproducing Danielson too, though I understand Danielsons game is more developped and pro-ready and his team is worse offensively IMO.

I'd waste a 2nd on him at this point. He surely feels a lot better than other OAs Ive seen in the past like Leason and Sokolov.

Except all the Russians that were drafted? He's already playing in NA.

Austin Roest (Everett) is another guy I liked. He's killing it this year. Was worthy of a late-round pick last year is probably mid-rounds this year.

Hoping we grab another 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Not sure with who, but three 1sts, two 2nds, two 3rds & two 4ths is what I want. We can trade our extra 4th & 5th. Keep one pick 5-7. That's 12 picks.

I don't know, IIRC there was no belarus selection last year, though its obviously a weaker country generally. I just don't see any reason why he wouldnt have been drafted otherwise ? Pretty insane. I guess he was buried on a good team with lots of overagers and didn't make much waves.

Sometimes NHL scouts just baffle me.

I've seen him live several times. He's definitely worth a pick and was underscouted last year - not enough info on him from outside of Canada and didn't stand out in comparison to the rest of the team here. He was solid enough last year as he adjusted, but this year he's seen significant growth in his overall game and more consistency both in game and game-to-game. He's not huge, he's not an exceptional skater, but he's definitely good enough in both regards. Smart and plays the inside game exceptionally well, I like his shot and he's got good hands. I'm not sure if I'd go as far as saying he's an animal, but he's got grit and is very comfortable in traffic and initiating contact.

I like this kind of player for MTL as ones with real offensive upside aren't always that easy to find. I have a hard time placing him in a ranking as I've been a bit MIA in terms of armchair scouting this year, but late 2nd or early 3rd feels right. If I end up at another Blades game I'll make some more detailed notes.

Am I missing something with Matthew Wood? Why is he not ranked higher? Many have him outside top 15-20...

Almost PPG in the NCAA as 18 y old Freshman AND top scorer on his own team. Really strong in the BCHL at 17 y old with a goal per game rate.

6'3.

He looks like Matt Boldy 2.0 to me. Am I wrong?

I mean, I like small skilled forwards like Benson, Cristall, Barlow and co., but this is the guy I'd target personally just on a stats/size combo. Granted I'm no scout and I've only seen highlights of his play...

What do you guys think?

He's considered a very bad skater for his size.

and Barlow is 6'1'', he's not part of the "small skilled forwards" brigade of this draft.

Think JVR. Not a great skater, really good hands, really nice shot, does most of his damage around the net and is an underrated playmaker.
