If Wood doesn't have terrible skating, who does?

The sheer number of scoring chances Cristall creates is ridiculous. He had one secondary assist last night, and the highlights are full of near miss scoring chances he orchestrated.

I'm afraid to think about his point totals if he was better surrounded. Very creative.

If we draft Bedard, i believe we should spend to the cap(wisely). Our rebuild would be over with Bedard and we would be ready to compete again.

I think the same hold true for Fantilli and Michkov. (Obviously the latter is not coming next year tho).
Keep your draft picks for a couple of yearrs, even if we draft Bedard. There's still a lot of holes in this team and I don't see us being a playoff team next year, even with Bedard as a rookie. Just look at McJesus, you still need a balance team and there's lot of holes in our team. As for Fantilli and Michkov, nothing is sure. I would be thrill to have one of those guys, but it doesn't mean the rebuild should be over. I have nothing againts spending to the cap, just don't trade high picks.

What do you guys think the odds are that we end up with one of Smith, Moore or Leonard. I’d say 50% chance we end up with one of them if we don’t win any of the lotteries.
Can you give us player comparaison for Moore and Leonard? I know nothing about them.

If we don't win any lottery and we are picking around where we are, id say all 3 are on the table in addition to Dvorsky Yager Sale and Reinbacher.

The only hole we really have in my opinion is 1 or 2 star player. Having Bedard would put Caufield, Suzuki, Dach, Slaf etc. in the right chair.

As a univ of minny fan where Moore is going next year, Moore is probably one of if not the best skater in this draft class. Motor is off the charts as well. Comparable could be a Dylan Larkin. I think he's actually underrated because he centers the second line and doesn't have Leonard or Perrault on his wings. He's very good. Smith has a very good offensive skill-set, but Moore is no slouch and has some intangibles that smith lacks in the two way department.

This, even with Bedard we are deep within a rebuild. At least another year, probably 2, before we should start changing our assets management pattern.

No goalies, no star D....if we get Bedard this year, we need to try and get a star D next year in a much better year for Ds (use Anderson/Dvorak trade assets in a 3-way to go up and grab Henry Mews? Vaisainen/Dickinson)

But Bedard would change our success rate in the UFA acquisition part of the rebuild pretty quickly.

2024 (not deep yet, lots of prospects in the AHL)
Caufield Suzuki Bedard
Slaf Dach Anderson
Beck

2025 we become deep, but still pretty green, we would make the playoffs but are likely to have a 1st round exit (PLD used for demonstration of a UFA acquisition)

PLD Dach Bedard
Caufield Suzuki Barlow/Dvorsky/X
Slaf Beck Mesar
Roy Evans Farrell

Young D - needs a star
Guhle - Barron
X - Mailloux
Harris - Hutson
Xhekaj

If we win the Bedard sweepstake and keep the other pick, I definitely go for the best RHD available at that spot.

Let’s say we have the 13-16 pick. Do you guys think one of Reinbacher or ASP is still there?

Hes a terrible skater, but when you take out pace and add in 6'3, as a vector of movement, is his overall package worse than Smith? What about Suzuki? I dont exactly recall Suzukis movement almost 6 years ago now, but I know he suffered from the same problem as Wood. McGroarty last year moved worse than him.

I also don't think hes worse than Maroon and Perry but that doesnt move the conversation much as they are terribly bad skaters, lol.

Leonard is a fast, n-s, up and down type. Early days Pacioretty. He has a very good power game despite his dimininutive size.

Moore is a fast player. Byron with better playmaking a bit. Early days Marchand without the exciting stuff. I may be mistaken but I think hes the fastest in the draft.

Reinbacher no, ASP yes and Id rather pick a forward. Theres plenty of ASP level players that will go 2nd round

You can't factor in the overall package, and then on the basis of the total package reason that he's not a bad skater. He's a bad skater who also happens to have compensating factors. If his skating never improves that will affect his output as a pro, but if he gets it to even just below average, he could be a monster player.

Not a good year to draft a D, drafting for need would be awful. Grab whatever top player is in that spot and that won't be a D. Pretty confident we are getting a 3rd 1st rounder as well.

I don't think Pelikka has star qualities, I'd rather we wait for 2024 to get much better Ds.

Vaisainen (Fin) <== right now who I think might be top 5
Mews (OHL)
Dickinson (OHL)
Levshunov (Belarus - plays in the USHL) <== right now who I think might be top 5
maybe Kivi (Fin)
maybe Badinka (riser) (Czech)

Probably all better than the 2023s.

And then the 2nd round next year is filled with incredible D talent from the Q (a few will be late 1st, but the quality and quantity is special for the Q).

Fillion
Lanthier
Taillefer
Veilleux

And the OHL has good ones as well
Virgilio
Marrelli

Erlick (WHL)

Lots of Europeans as well.
Mayer (germany)
Jiricek 2.0 (Czech)
Chromiak 2.0 (Slovak)
Galvas (Czech)
Solberg (Norway)
Soini (Fin)
Whipple and Skahan (US)
Freij (Swe)

Overall, next year is D-heavy in the top 90. Quality galore.

The only thing that is worrying is that I dont think hes skating changed in the past year.

His output as a pro would be positive with this skating right now IMO. So, not too concerned.

Say we draft Bedard, and the Florida pick is top 10, do we look for a very good dmen via trade or we draft and wait?

No name in my head but wonder if they would explore that avenue with a talent like Bedard coming right away, personally i would at least see if i can get a top 2 dmen for the pick +
Yes, that would be my strategy to find a good defenceman with that pick as Bedard expedites everything.

Engstrom? Trudeau? Struble?
Hutson could become a star, no?
But yeah, I would be glad to find a young star D.

Engstrom? Trudeau? Struble?

I'm not super high on any of those. Not all our prospects will make it.

Trudeau did well at camp, I have some hopes there.

Struble I need to see more of.

Engstrom, not sure where he fits given our needs. We have a forest of good D talent, we need one great talent to make them all better, and that's about it.

The thing that caught my attention about Cristall is rarely does he have a goal or an assist that looks the same as another. That to me speaks to his creativity as a player.

Hes very crafty and very shifty. Interesting player.

Moore would be an interesting add but I really don't think he has enough high end skill to go for our pick and he might just be gone by the time the Florida pick rolls around.

Reinbacher won't be. ASP could be, but I wouldn't take him there.

If Adam Nicholas thinks they can engineer his skating to be better, then I can see the interest being high here.

What's your opinion of Honzek? Potential FLA pick?

Depends on if Florida gets into a play-off spot. It's tough, big kid coming back off an achilles injury, that's the kind of thing I'd want to see play out before I invested a top 20 pick on them.

Engström has some very good tools. I'm hopeful for him, but he has a ways to go.

Couldn't have asked better for a D+1. His production is getting higher and his defense is playing well at the SHL level.

Yes, that would be my strategy to find a good defenceman with that pick as Bedard expedites everything.
I was thinking maybe Toews but Byram is still a huge concern, they may just give him his big contract

I agree and i also agree with other posters who say we pick the best player available. But if Reinbacher is there, for me it's an automatic yes. As for ASP, i think this is where the ??? begin because some mock drafts consider him the best D in this draft and even, some pencil him as a top 10 pick.
