If they don't draft Bedard/Carlsson, they better not pass on Michkov.

Yeah lets hope man, we have a "tough" month of mars coming, 3 back to back, at home we're playing 4 games vs the top cotenders, 1 game vs columbus and Florida.

Technically we should be able to avoid winning more than 3-5 games suring that month.

We're in good shape.

They probably will unfortunately, No interview, no live scouting, they dont know his intentions and that endless f***ing war not over yet, Im pretty sure they will pass. Keep in mind that Russians dont learn english at school, so we wait after him for 3 yrs in the best scenario and the kid still cant communicate properly with his coachs and teammates for another 2 yrs. Cant see it,

I am assuming that Florida just misses the playoffs here. Here is my current top 15 players I personally like.

1 - Connor Bedard - no explanation needed.

2 - Matvei Michkov - I’ll take any flack for having him #2 on my list but he was not far off of Bedard before the whole Russian war took over. I’m content with waiting a few years on him.

3 - Adam Fantilli - size, skill, speed, physicality, plays cente. What is their not to like?

4 - Leo Carlsson - a centre with size that plays a two way game. More of a Barkov / Kopitar like player.

To me the top four is set in place although I can see Michkov dropping. The real draft starts at #5.

5 - David Reinbacher - I realize that there are other potentially game breaking forwards available but he checks all the boxes for biggest team need. Two way RD with size who projects to be a top pair defenceman.

6 - Dalibor Dvorsky - he had his coming out party at the World Juniors for Slovakia. If you are trying to build a line but Slafkovsky-Dvorsky-Mesar could be all all Slovakian line. Plus I’m sure that the players would all love having each other there together.

7 - Zach Benson - his motor never stops. Super high IQ to go with playing with fire in his game. He can play all forward positions in all situations. He is a coaches dream player and one who will be a fan favourite in no time.

8 - Will Smith - maybe I have him a little lower on my list than others do but I see him as all all out offensive player. As great as he could be I still like a little more two way to a players game when taken this high.

9 - Andrew Cristall - he may be a bit of a reach here but if you are going to have Will Smith at the pick before then I don’t see much difference than having Cristall as the next best pick.

10 - Ryan Leonard - can score and plays with his size. He would be a great complement to playing with more skilled players.

11 - Colby Barlow - I have watched him a bunch and come out impressed every time. It’s his play away from the puck that I love. I think some other players available have more offensive potential but I love his all round game.

12 - Brayden Yager - once again another goal scoring forward. He has been inconsistent this year but most goal scorers are. Great skater too.

13 - Oliver Moore - I feel like he has really slipped on here but it may just show how deep that the draft is. Centre with speed to burn defenders.

At this point on their is a bit of a drop off and the draft really opens up and someone could be a teams top available player and another team could have him in the #30-40 range.

14 - Axel Sandin Pellikka - offensive defender who plays on the right side. He played great at the World Juniors and really impressed me.

15 - Hunter Brzustewicz - yes I went really off the board but I am 100% sold on him. Kitchener is a bit of a tire fire but every time I watch him I come out impressed. He is a RD and plays an almost mistake free game. He may not impress you all that much but he is a coaches dream. He can play big minutes, you can ride him down the homestretch of the game when you are protecting a lead or when you are needing a goal.

From what I gathered Russians can take English classes, but they get to choose between that or other languages. Most of them do learn English.

Michkov is definitely the most intriguing prospect of this draft, you have to gamble on him if you're Mtl I think.

It is time to put some respect on Nick Lardis and Gracyn Sawchyn, I think.

Sawchyn is probably going late 1st maybe earlier. I really like his game.

It says a lot about Peterborough that Lardis absolutely exploded offensively when he was traded to Hamilton.

19 pts in 36 games with Peterborough
32 pts in 19 games in Hamilton

That's a ridiculous increase. He's tripled his ppg.

Meanwhile, Beck’s offense has nose dived in Peterborough. What the hell is going on in Peterborough?

Honestly, they have no choice but to keep Beck in the NHL next year. It's like Kingston and Wright. No way am I putting them back in that environment.

This, even with Bedard we are deep within a rebuild. At least another year, probably 2, before we should start changing our assets management pattern.

No goalies, no star D....if we get Bedard this year, we need to try and get a star D next year in a much better year for Ds (use Anderson/Dvorak trade assets in a 3-way to go up and grab Henry Mews? Vaisainen/Dickinson)

But Bedard would change our success rate in the UFA acquisition part of the rebuild pretty quickly.

2024 (not deep yet, lots of prospects in the AHL)
Caufield Suzuki Bedard
Slaf Dach Anderson
Beck

2025 we become deep, but still pretty green, we would make the playoffs but are likely to have a 1st round exit (PLD used for demonstration of a UFA acquisition)

PLD Dach Bedard
Caufield Suzuki Barlow/Dvorsky/X
Slaf Beck Mesar
Roy Evans Farrell

Young D - needs a star
Guhle - Barron
X - Mailloux
Harris - Hutson
Xhekaj

Having Slaf playing in the third line in 2025 is just bad. If you believe, he won't become a top 6 player in the NHL. Is better to trade him for a#1 D.

Having a first overall pick playing in the third line after 2-3 years is a big failure for the team.

I don't see them taking Michkov over any of Bedard, Fantilli or Carlsson after that I take him 4th with no hesitation. If not then try to trade down a couple of spots and add either another good prospect of high pick.

It's not bad at all if our 3 lines drive a lot of offence; you are too married to the old NHL definition of a 3rd line.

3rd line and Power play...

Hes not a good 1st overall though, hes more in line with a late top 10. Kessel is a comparison I would make.

Stumble upon Lardis' statline this morning. 32 pts in 19 games lmfao, how is his skating?
Hes an absolutely beautiful skater. Hes super agile and hes a ++++ puck handler. His wrister is lightning quick and hes not a perimeter player at all. Attacks the middle with assertiveness.

Hes tiny though. Hes literally a carbon copy of Firkus last year. Maybe a better skater and slightly worse shooter.

So dunamic. He is one of the reason I have Moore falling, I watch him and then Moore and theres just no way I can rank him ahead.

The old NHL? In the last 10 years (2013-2023). Only Lafreniere is playing on the third line. The rest of the first overall pick had a huge impact on the top 6. You don't draft a first overall pick and make him play in the third line. If he can't crack the top 6 in 2-3 years, is better to trade him for a #1 D or Goalie.

Kessel played in the top 6 almost his whole career. Only in a stacked Pittsburgh, he played on the third line ( in the playoff, they did make him play with Crosby or Malkin). I hope Slef can develop into a good top 6 player.

My point is, if you have the luxury of having more than 6 top 9 players, you have way more chances to win because your depth can be covered by the opposition.
