This is years away and will never be the case in the junior leagues and random Euro leagues. It's simply too expensive.

I work as a camera tech and the only teams doing full arena replay (like 2k or ea sports) are the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers. Even then there are some limitations and replays look choppy, but it is super cool. Also it takes a surprising amount of work to create the replays.

Sky cams in the NFL are amazing, and I think those will become popular in the NHL. VR scouting could become a huge part of future scouting, and I agree that it could definitely replace, and ultimately, improve upon in person viewings, but it will take years before it is the norm and I don't know if it will ever be standard in leagues without a huge budget.

Nope, it's not. I'm on the tech company side of things. It's more that there was no startups there, this just changed. The tech isn't inherently expensive anymore.

And what you have access to isn't the scout's tools. It's the media network, very different intent, different needs as well.

If Michkov is there at 5, yes. For Smith, Benson or Reinbacher, i'm not so sure but would hesitate.

For Smith I would. But I think the Habs pre lottery will be closer to 7th OA, so if say it ends up being 7th and 14th, that would be a tougher decision as I do like Moore and wonder how he would look if he were on that top line.

No, because we are basically assured that a player ranked here in the top 5-10 will still be there at 15th.

Unless one of the top 4 drops, no. There is a pretty solid tier from 5 to 10 that I dont really care who we get.

I really like Moore, Leonard, Barlow and Dvorsky!

Yeah, pass the top5 its the jungle, Dvorsky could pretty well end up as a better NHLer than Smith and Brindley could pretty well amount to a better player than Benson, so no worry at all for me, we will still get 2 very very good young players and we could pretty well end up lucky on lottery day like Edmonton was with Mcdavid.

The war in Ukraine isn't getting better. I'm not commenting on the morality of that or anything, just observing, the war is getting worse, at both ends, from both sides. It could even spread to places like Serbia or Armenia. It's likely that US-Russia relations will be even worse in two years, so it's sensible to avoid drafting Russians, nothing against those players who have nothing to do with the war, as Molson and Hughes have nothing to do with the war, but those players are unlikely to come here.

That's what I'm trying to say, we can say whatever we want on a forum, but some teams will not want to gamble on such possibilities (which are very real). It's not the usual "russian factor" with the KHL... this year is completely different (as was last year).

I agree with you. But keep in mind that yesterday's game was two bottom dwellers facing each other, it can be easier to rack up points vs bad teams. He plays tomorrow vs Salavat Yulaev (a better team than Kunlun), I'll try to watch it if I can.

edit: As for the bolded, I think Michkov's tremendously high IQ could make this happen. He just has an innate tendency to make everyone around him better. He's a goal-scoring machine, but his vision really is off the charts. Special, special talent.

I'd be tempted if Michkov or Carlsson is still there, but it's tricky. 9th and 15th in this draft is equivalent to two top-10 picks in a regular draft year so I'd be wary of splitting the odds.

What I'd be willing to entertain though is picking at 9 then trading the 15th on the draft floor, if there's no surprise faller. Dach deal 2.0?

I'm aware Sochi is the worst club in the KHL. Thanks for the info about the past 8 games between them, I wasn't aware of that. There's no doubt Michkov has been a major plus for Sochi and he's made them better.

Do you never go watch games in person? Go watch live games and key in on a couple of players. There are so many elements of a player's game that the camera (focused on puck) doesn't catch. It's night and day. Only ultra-cheap organizations will stop sending scouts in-person.

I just want to remind you that some people around here does ranking with highlights, points and opinion of others. So, I dont think they truly understand what you mean.

This may sound like a crazy hot take, but the idea of Adam Fantilli in our lineup is for some reason more enticing than Bedard. I’m not saying Fantilli > Bedard. If we get 1st overall, it’s Bedard all day long but our lineup would look so good with Fantilli. Same with Bedard but we already have a lot of smallish players. I get…trade some of those players to make room for Bedard. Anyways just giving Fantilli is due. He’s an unreal prospect and we could use a 6 foot 2 first line centre
