We have to get ahead of SJ and Vancouver.

Make it so we don't have to figure out who is best in the next tier.

Also, I don't think we need to force a defenseman at any pick.. We might not be as bad in 2024 but we won't be in the play-offs and next year is looking very stacked for defenseman. Zayne Parekh as a RHD in particular.

Yeah, barring an interesting D prospect being available for our 3rd first rounder if we get one, I wouldn’t prioritize a defender with either of our current first picks.

Reinbacher at the Florida pick would likely be a BPA.. but I wouldn't reach on ASP.. and I'm not gonna reach on Reinbacher in the top 7.

I don‘t see how MTL finishes before SJS and VAN, the West is much easier than the East. Karlsson is playing well, Meier playing for a new contract, Pettersson Hughes to show that they are great young players (and get out of VAN).

I guess I'm asking because maybe a Carlson or Smith falls to the habs at 6 ...
imagine if habs finish a spot ahead of canucks and michkov is still on the board?
let the game of chicken begin
The only way I trade Michkov to Vancouver, it’s for their 1st pick and Islanders 1st.

It has been more than a year. I remember he was something else at the U18s. Just as skilled as Bedard. But I don't know what curve his development took since then. The Benson I see now is almost as good as the Michkov I saw more than a year ago.

He's not close, Michkov is 2 years ahead.

Lots of good Ds next year.

That would be enormous.

But personally, I think the best that can happen is Habs at 4OA and Flo at 10OA. Off course baring a lottery win.
Top 4 is a pipe dream. It’s not happening. Not with the goaltending the Habs are getting. If Montembeault decides to randomly regress, maybe they drop below the Canucks and Sharks. But the Coyotes aren’t passing the Habs.

Could also see the Habs passing the Blues who really stink and are set to unload key players. I can’t imagine how bad they will be without ROR and Tarasenko.

Tarasenko was not viewed as borderline generational as Michkov is. Far far from it

If he's available after 4 or so, half of the league would try to move up

But Michkov might be Bedard's level - ie. he's better than Tarasenko by quite a bit who didn't fall because of the Russian factor too much.
Tarasenko's production was very good and arguably better than Michkov's in their draft years. There's more to it than production, and I can't see Michkov falling all the way to 16, but maybe somewhere between 8-12.

Either way....one of Bedard, Michkov, Fantilli and Carlsson.

and

one of Benson, Yager, Smith, Sale, Cristall or Dvorsky

Would be absolutely insane!
there are always some random guy nobody ever heard off that might get the spot,

that said, i think montreal can finish last, again, with all the injuries, right now I only see the blackhawks with equal or less potential (kane is no longer, until he is longer :naughty:)

Dream scenario.

We draft Benson 5th overall and then trade our Florida pick + another late first (which we acquired) to draft around 10 and get Michkov.

Guys think this is possible?

Michkov won t be here at 10 IMO but maybe the Russian factor is more important than I think…

I'm good to add a Benson or a Michkov. I'd actually be concerned with a top 6 of Benson Caufield and Michkov. That's too small.
