The only comparable is the wrister in stride, Caufield is a better shooter all over the board otherwise. Hes very good though, but I feel the Habs may not need him as a player.

How is he more complete ? Caufield is the better shooter and the better playmaker. I don't think Yager is in the same category skills-wise as Caufield. Or were you talking about defensive play/physical ? If so, its a moot point to bring up, you don't draft Caufield for his hits, but still, not wrong and I think Yager can be a guy that somewhats tilts the ice like Pacioretty did for the Habs, despite not being a particularly good passer.

I really like Yager and I think he can be a very good Pacioretty style player, I think the experiment at C is nice and all, but don't see him sticking there. His bread and butter is the skating and the shot in stride, theres no reasons to fix what isnt broken. He suffers from blind spots too often to be a good center or even a good playmaker at the next level. Theres also something to be said about the value of a good neutral-zone and Dzone transition winger like Yager for a team, trying to force all the players with some kind of defensive acumen or understanding of breakout scheme to the center is annoying.

I think Maxpac is a bad comparable for Yager.

Max was about power, Yager is precise, high IQ, nighty, good defensively.

Plus it seems like no one is watching the center Yager...

I would definitely not define Yager as high IQ. He turns the puck over a lot in the offensive zone because of his lack of IQ. He is a good system player however.

Center Yager was shit over the 1st quarter of the season, but he's looked much better the last few games I've watched, so maybe he's coming around to the position.

Definitely not ready to play C in NHL.

Don't think he looked like shit; that's a little strong. It's a transition. He's still a 17 years old playing against good teams - of course he'll look much worse when he fails as a center vs. as a winger

Would disagree. I find he needs to keep upping his fitness level - he makes many of these mistakes when winded/later in his shifts.

That could be it, I will keep an eye out for this but I generally havent seen such pattern.

Fair enough. Let's say we had 10th and no defencemen projected to be picked inside the top 15? Would you trade the 10th to move back to Rangers 23rd and 31st?

What about the 10th for Chychrun or Dumba?

Just spit balling, because I think it may be a stretch grabbing a D at 10 when there may be 5-6 more players that are BPA at that position. Of course tons can change come draft time.

Hell no.. Dumba is a UFA this summer.

Well, he did want to trade Caufield to make sure we ended up with Slafkovsky last year.

What? nope, never said that. I'm not against trading Caufield as a whole, but not to lose more. I think Caufield will prove to be a 50g scorer that you need to babysit quite a bit even in his prime, and unlike Ovechkin he can't turn into a "2ish-way player". This means you always have to think about him in all your move (bleugrh, not my preference). I'm always scared of having 2-3 Caufields in a lineup as well, one is plenty.

What? hahaha no.

This is a guy with the same kind of abilities as Brendan Shanahan but he's a better skater, and he's smaller.

Hey, YOU are supposed to make me mad. Get to work.
I doubt we’re drafting Yagar, so I think it’s a moot point.

Depends on our ranking, let's evaluate that AFTER we know our ranking.
If the Habs have players they’d prefer to draft over Yagar, they’ll just draft someone else.

They’ll draft a centre or a right D or I couldn’t believe he was still available or they’ll trade down. When you’re ‘meh’ about somebody, it’s easy to find an excuse why you passed him over.

You can't have 2-3 caufield in your lineup, i don't know many potential 50 goals scorer in the league small or not.
