That's not good. We need to land one of the Bedard and big 3 after.

Benson, Smith, Yager, Dvorsky and Sale are all very good prospect... Draft one of them, that would change the franchise too, even if isn't a player from the top 4. Habs have a lot of talent, adding a player like Benson or Smith, that's going to make the Habs a really good team for many years to come.

Serious question: Why would we have to wait 3-4 years for Michkov? Wasn’t Kaprizov in Russia during the summer and they found a way to bring him to NA? Surely there would be a way for the habs to bring him over?

Michkov is under contract in the KHL until 2025-26. So the earliest he can be signed and come over is May 1st, 2026 (since KHL contracts end on April 30th). And since there is no transfer agreement between the NHL and KHL, that means Michkov won't be able to participate in anything before then.

He wouldn't be able to participate in development camp, rookie camp or the main camp before 2026.

And then if he ends up signing an extension to stay in the KHL longer than 2026, then the team that takes him will have to wait even longer before they can have him.

Minnesota drafted Kaprizov in 2015, he spent 5 seasons in the KHL before coming over to North America. Minnesota didn't have him signed until 2020.

That would be like drafting Michkov in 2023 and only being able to sign him in 2028.

Name them.
Assuming the three I mentionned earlier are slightly above

Strbak
Dragicevic
Price
Karki
Allen
Gulyayev
Strahmann
Brzustewicz
Lindstein
Akey
Cagnoni
Simashev

Okay not quite 15 but I think these guys all have 2nd round-early 3rd round potential, theyre all similar to Luneau/Warren/Odelius/Chesley in quality IMO.

Meanwhile the difference between, say, Musty or Gauthier and Lind/Suniev is pretty huge.

If it's true that management would pass on Michkov no matter how far he falls then I have 0 faith in Hugo/Molson.

Montreal has been starved for a true NHL star for decades now, if we pass up a golden opportunity to draft 1 because management doesn't like where we was born then I hope the league moves this team to Houston:laugh:

I wonder if the Russian factor + contract makes Michkov fall.

Either way, I wouldn't want him here next season, but can you imagine landing him with either pick, if we draft like 4th, or later?

We're in a good position to take a risk on him having two 1st, even more so if we can add a third one at the deadline . With some lottery luck he could make a ton of sense for us at 4 or 5.

Button sure loves Sale..

I respect him for having Nelson over Stramel, and Stramel firmly in the 2nd round.

I much prefer Nelson over Stramel. Far better skater & pace.

Lol, better players. This game was 20th Sochi loss in a row, new all-time KHL record. What is amazing Michkov keeps scoring for this dumpster fire of a team.
Probably getting a lot more opportunities here than on the main club

Without a pick in the top 4 we won’t be in the elite teams of the NHL, we need a franchise player that we can build around and those guys you name are probably not even if they are really good

His offensive potential is higher than all guys not named Bedard or Michkov, only problem is that he is getting like 7 minutes icetime on shit team. When he got his 6 points in his first 8 games his icetime got much lower and now he is barely playing. I think that they(Kometa management) think they will unsuck themselves if they play expensive 30+yo talentless pylons, they nearly ruined Svozil as well in his draft year or at least slowed his development significantly.

Early 2nd round is where its at for them Ds. Im sure a very interesting D will fall, Price, Allen, Strbak, Gulyalev, Simashev, Lidstein, heck even Dragicevic could all be there in the 2nd.

I think SP, Reinbacher and Morin are the only ones I would actively want a pick for them and I see all of them go top 25.
Morin progression this this year is really interesting ! He’s climbing in my ranking each month

The goal starting the season should have been a top 4 pick. I am hoping that we still have the possibility but it will be close and we have to actually want to lose. That means starting Monty more often, line arrangements, who is on the PP (Drouin etc,,) and then dumping Monahan and maybe Anderson. No idea why MSL is so happy when we win, like, you're cheering that we are dropping in the draft?

Every coach/players want to win and it’s totally normal. Putting Monty more often is and using bad players on PP is not the way to tank.

Trading players is a good way tough
