I really doubt Michkov falls beyond Arizona (bus load of youth, can ‘afford’ the wait) or C-Bus who draft Russians frequently.

I can’t imagine the Hawks and Ducks being willing to endure The Wait.

We definitely need a 3rd 1st round to draft a D. Florida's pick might be low enough to get another of the high end forwards.

Another pick in the 20-26 range and we should be able to grab Strbak.

Not a great D class. 2024 looks pretty heavy with D though.
Early 2nd round is where its at for them Ds. Im sure a very interesting D will fall, Price, Allen, Strbak, Gulyalev, Simashev, Lidstein, heck even Dragicevic could all be there in the 2nd.

I think SP, Reinbacher and Morin are the only ones I would actively want a pick for them and I see all of them go top 25.

Columbus being ahead of us if they are picking 2/3 would be good.. they definitely don't mind taking Russians.

So if we sit at 4, we could get Carlsson.

The trouble with Michkov is he had an injury at the beginning of this draft cycle, he's playing in the VHL, and most concerning is nobody gets to see him play and whether he's progressing like other draft eligibles. There's a lot of risk around him. There were rampant rumours last spring that this Habs brass may be gun shy about drafting Russians with early picks. No idea if there's any truth to that.

Michkov is now in the KHL for Sochi..

and it does seem to be true because Hughes' response to the report was intentionally vague to not address the rumor but in the way he answered it, substantiates it.. especially when they went out and didn't draft a single russian with a bevvy of picks.

Who knows how long the political situation will continue as well.

I hear you.

I struggle imagining Bedard or Michkov with Habs. They’re both great, fingers crossed.

Getting both in Habs’ jerseys (supreme dream) what would the headlines be?

How many new cuss words would Hawks’ brass invent?

( just speculating for fun )

Here’s another cool combo I dare to dream of for our favorite team (lots of excellent combos are possible, but offense galore here:

To me, Dvorsky seems like a boring pick with limited star potential. With 2 lottery picks and a team that is nowhere close to start winning, I would rather user these two picks on forwards with game breaking potential. Especially in this draft.
Yeah the risk appetite should be much higher. I would prefer 50/50 odds on 2 80 pt players then 75/25 odds on 50-60pt players

He is the same size as Bedard, Michkov and Cristal and is heavier than Michkov. So size is not an issue. Skating yes, but it's not like it sucks and from what I've noticed it's getting better.
Bedard in another league can't even compare the two.

How many small wingers Habs need on top 6? To justify spending a high pick like this on. How much better is Benson than Mesar? Or Roy? Or Farrell? Guys he is going to compete for minutes with. Dach, Caufield, Slaf are locks for future top 6. By time Benson is ready

Yes I'd say he's better than all 3 of those guys. Who cares if he's smaller, you need to go high ceiling with such a high pick. Plus if we get lucky and one of our picks is top 3 we can add size with fantilli/carlsson

How does Crystall compare to Perfetti as a prospect?? Both smallish winger putting near 2ppg in their draft year.

Yeah, ASP, Reinbacher & Morin should all be top 25, but I like Strbak a lot & don't see him being available at our second round pick.

Think at minimum he goes 25-32.

Perf is a much better goalscorer, Cristall is better all over the board.

But someone has to be there, right? And I see a pretty big drop off for forwards after 20-25, while I think, tools wise, the defenders are all very close, in fact, I could name probably 15 Ds that have similar abilities.

Knee jerking over the WJC performance of a 17 YO. (Who wasnt even bad)

You guys never, ever, learn.
Imagine what they would have been saying about Jonathan Toews after his first WJC with Team Canada in his draft year when he only had 2 assists. There are so many strong players who don't make these teams in their draft year.
