WJC is over. Obviously, Bedard has no competition for the 1st OV spot. Then its close between Carlsson and Fantilli. Michkov could easily end up as the 2nd best player in this draft, but uncertainty will likely make him drop at 4 minimum. Then I have Reinbacher, Dvorsky, Smith and Oliver Moore in the next group. After that its up in the air, I would probably pick Barlow at 9 OV.

Bedard

Carlsson
Fantilli
Michkov

Reinbacher
Dvorsky
Smith
Moore

Barlow...

Thats it for me, see you back on draft day.

Not sure what is the big deal with Reinbacher...what are you guys even watching?

I get it, it's not a great year for Ds, no need to force it.

To me, this tournament cemented the Top-4. Will Smith looks nowhere on the same level. Am I missing something? Just no exciting #5.
Smith couldn’t play the WJC because he got sick during camp. Many would talk about him otherwise.

He’s a very exciting and skilled player. Not in the same tier as Bedard or Fantilli/Carlsson of course but i like him. We will probably be able to watch him at the U18.

Dvorsky’s looks miles behind the Tier 2 guys... I saw Reinbacher on your list the other day, will focus on him. As I said, no one beyond 4 seems satisfying to compensate for a season we tank so bad.

On the Sick Podcast Grant McCagg just said he doesn't think anyone's going to be willing to risk a top 5 pick on Michkov and he doesn't believe Montreal will draft any Russians this draft.

If Michkov somehow falls to Florida's pick and we don't take him I'll be pissed lol.
I take Michkov even if I know for a fact he’s spending the next 3 seasons in Siberia. Some of the things he does are insane.

I wrote 11 months ago that Michkov will not be drafted in the Top 5 and I stand by it.( CONTRACT). I would draft him second overall but his contract.will put him outside of the top 5

Also for me.Carlsson has more potential than Fantili because of his IQ.

Fantili is in your face player..always.at top speed and effort but I don't know if he will reach another level in the NHL because of his IQ.

Carlsson is a bit lazy but his ceiling is very high.

size, shot, IQ, vision, faster that it seems.

Also I have Benson before Yager. Benson lost Matthew Savoie.and..Conor Geekie in the dust this year...

They play on the same.team.and Savoie and Geekie were Top 15 last Summer....and Benson is better than both this season..

I don't think he's lazy, he hasn't played much on smaller ice he might have been adapting at the start of the tournament because he really came alive in the last 3-4 games.

Maybe Habs don't going to win lottery, but one thing for sure... Habs are going to draft a very good hockey player. Bedard is the best from this draft, no doubt.

After that, Habs have a chance to have at least a top 8 pick... that's very huge for the rebuild. Fantili, Michkov, Carlsson, Smith, Benson, Dvorsky, Yager, Sale that's a lot of talent right there.

Habs are in a good hands to make a great draft like 2022.

I would rather take a chance with Gulyayev. I wish I got to see more of him instead of random clips. This tourney would've been great to watch him.

Maybe a late flyer on a guy like Simashev in the 3rd if he's still around.

If we don't have a top 3 and we don't take Michkov if he's sitting in our draft spot. I'll be sick.

Same here. At first his contract situation bothered me, but realistically we won't be a playoff team in 23-24, we MIGHT be a bubble team in 24-25 and hopefully we're a playoff team by 25-26. So realistically we'll only be missing him for 1 season that'll actually mean anything.

I know it is early and lots will change, but just wondering whether 2024 draft looks to be strong or not.

It's looking pretty good. While Aron Kiviharju (RD) got the early nod as potential #1, Cole Eiserman (F) will give him a run for sure. He was absolutely dominating u17, so has been brought up to u18, and got two goals in his 1st game in the USNDP. I imagine he's at u18s WC. He's an elite goal scorer.

Macklin Celebrini is another scorer (a Canadian) playing USHL for Chicago Steel. He has 16g, 32 pts in only 21 gp.

Finland's Konsta Helenius (RW) has been promoted to SM-Liiga from u20 already. He's much more of a playmaker though.

There's also goal scoring machine Tanner Howe with Regina, WHL, and Beckett Sennecke, with Oshawa Generals. This kid is blowing away Calum Ritchie (2023) this year. I absolutely already love him already. Kid can skate & has high end compete level with skill to boot.

David Jiricek's younger brother Adam is also looking like a fairly decent prospect for 2024, although not as big - yet.

It should be a really strong top 10.

We'll know more about the depth later this year and through the beginning of next year.

Honestly we could probably draft all 3 of them if that's how we decided we wanted to spend day 1 of the draft.

Perreault has been on a mega tear lately, it's hard for me to rank him because I really liked his older brother Jacob, who I thought was a steal at #27 in 2020, but he hasn't impressed much since being drafted.

I think Gabe is way more skilled. Kid's hands are sick. He has a soft touch for passing and shooting.

There's no real physical game. He's an open ice player, which you get a lot of in junior hockey. He's slick though just knows where to be in offensive zone at all times.

I wrote this in standings thread, but I'll repeat it here:

"It's definitely possible that if CBJ don't get Bedard, they'll draft Michkov. They seem to have no issues drafting Russians. They have drafted a Russian player every year since 2015 - 8 straight drafts.

They drafted 2 Russians in 2022 when it was not a popular thing to do (Dolzhenkov (F) & Ivanov (G)), so I fully expect them to draft Michkov if given the opportunity."

I don't see Michkov getting by CBJ at all, as long as they don't win Bedard.

Would you take Benson over Smith?

And he might leave Russia right after being drafted....like there is anything left standing legally in Russia.

Celebrini would be ranked #1 currently. Kiviharju is 5'9'' and that seems to be the final...so unless he's a Bedard of the D, and he is not, he's not going to be in the top 3.

My kids will be shooting pucks with one hand only
