Gonna be an elite 3C, I think.
And there’s nothing thing wrong with that. I really enjoy the way he plays the game, unlike quite a few other players that will likely be taken when he’s going to be drafted.

Eller went 13th OA, and there’s nothing wrong with drafting a player like Nate Danielson in the low teens in a draft.

If we have the opportunity... Do we draft Michov? Conventional wisdom is that he is the most skilled after Bedard but brings a wait time until '26... Thoughts?

I'm personally open to it and waiting until 26 would force us not to make the same mistakes we've made in the past with rushing prospects

Youre waiting on all of them but Bedard to make an impact for at a minimum of two years. The contract is of no consequence.

A team like the Habs, with 2 potential top 10 picks and a strong prospects pool, could afford to take that risk, not sure other teams can afford to draft Michkov too early in the actual conditions... I think Michkov could pretty well drop around 7-8 th OV in a such draft, I think no team will end up passing on a potential top line foward or top pairing defenseman for Michkov who comes with alot of uncertainty and risks. Bedard, Carlsson, Fantilli will get picked over Michkov 100%, then if in your evaluation, a kid like Will Smith has realistic chances to become a decent top line center, you dont pass on that either. Same for Reinbacher, if you value him as a solid top pairing defenseman in the making, you take him. I suspect some teams will like Dvorsky alot too, so I wouldnt be surprised at all if Michkov ended up dropping more than people think. Dont underestimate the lack of exposure, the time he missed this year due to an injury, his size ect, all this could affect his draft ranking.

That being said, I would be very surprised if Habs ended up drafting Michkov, they dont seem very high on drafting Russians in general, but thats my personal opinion...

Not at all, I like him. I forget where I have him but pretty sure it's low teens early 20s.

Might not be drafted at all.. we have to see a bigger sample size at the USHL level.
He did get a lot of sudden attention put on him, a team might feel good about spending a late draft pick on him now . It's happen a few times before, sometimes it's really as simple as that. I still remember guys like Benjamin Conz being the flavor of the month on the back on one good tourney.

That was not the intention of my comments to suggest that.

I was trying to make the point of having a 3C that can play big minutes against the other teams better players is an important need for our team.

Most would claim that this spot of the future is already filled with Owen Beck.

Also, the best 3Cs are usually not the ones who project as 3C when they are drafted, but the ones who looked like potential 2Cs, but ended up slightly below.

That being said, i do value a strong defensive forward like Danault as well. A guy like Brindley seems quite interesting because of his above average mobility. He's a waterbug out there, much like Hutson.

IMO it really depends on who's still on board when you pick and what's your pipeline looking like. With the quality of this draft and the huge amount of B+ prospect we have, i would swing for homeruns more than players with limited upside.

Who is the best D in the draft and where does he get taken?

Depends on who you ask..

Dragicevic looks like the best offensive defenseman
Reinbacher looks like the best defensive defenseman.
Sandin-Pellikka looks like the best bridge between both areas.

Someone always sneaks into the top 10 but one won't go before pick 5 if I'm guessing.

I'd prefer Dragicevic due to our needs at RHD and offensively but Reinbacher would be cool too.

And when I say prefer those guys, that's with a Florida pick in the teens. I don't think I'll have any defenseman in the top 10.

Obviously, depending on where we end up drafting and who is available when we pick will play a big part in who we pick.

I suspect we’ll pick a high offensive guy like Benson and play it safer with a guy like Danielson with our other pick. I was hoping for a RHD but that is looking for too much of a reach for where we are drafting.

I'm with you on this.

Dragicevic for me is really intriguing. So dominant offensively, good frame, good speed. But still projected to be drafted in the 20s.

I think for him strength is a bigger issue then even his play defensively. When the season ends he needs to prep for the combine and at least do a decent enough job there if he wants to be drafted higher up.

I thought Dvorsky played really well in the WJC. Very smart, good two-way center. Has some creativity. Doesn't seem to have game-breaking speed. He was every bit as good as Wright in this WJC and he's a year younger. He's currently my #5 forward after the big 4. We'll see if another forward (maybe Smith) or two take off in the new year.

I'm not sure how effective Sale will be in North American pro hockey. I find him so soft.
How's Dvorsky skating compared to Roy?

We'll regret not taking Miroshnichenko. ;)

He went 20th, so it's not like we passed on him.

RE: Michkov
I can't see us taking Michkov at 2 given the certainty of Carlsson and Fantilli.
It's also very difficult for us to pick 3-4 given our place in the standings, so our next opportunity would be in the 5-8 range. At that point if he falls to us and we pass, I'd be very disappointed.

I am hoping to get
Dvorsky (around #7), Great center for years to come, #2 or #3
Wood (around #14), Big body on the R wing
Dragicevic/Reinbacher (around #25/ Monahan+ trade), Really need a decent RHD
Honzek (2nd rd pick), Did good in the WJH
Ratzlaff (3rd rd pick), Need some Goalie future,
Daviault (4th rd pick), I like that D
