1st guy to go in my ND liste...Charlie Stramel. 'Cause I will always choose somebody else in the 1st round even if we get 5 picks...and will have somebody else to choose early 2nd round too. Of course I'd take him if he's there in the 3rd but will not fall that much.

I'm just not a fan. From his skating, to his IQ, to his non-existant hands.....McCarron in his draft year looked better.
I'd say he moves better than Big Mac did and his tools are a tad above, although probably not by a ton . Certainly not enough to pick him anywhere near the Florida pick, that's for sure.

Watched some videos of a few guys in the 5-10 range.

My favorites are Yager and Cristall.

Cristall moves like Patrick Kane. Yager has great decision making, looks like a pro already.

Benson, lots of flash but tended to blow a lot of plays. Might be a bad sample of vids.

Dvorsky, has a great shot but nothing else stood out.

Will Smith kind of hard to judge. Unclear how much will be left once the pro game acid test bites into his game.

Even if we miss on Bedard, I would be very happy drafting a combo like Yager/Cristall. Would be huge.
the more I watch Dvorsky play, the more he reminds me of Dvorak with his offense coming close to the net and playing a cycling game more or less.

After reading the last 80 pages or so of this thread, bless you all who do heavy scouting and watch these guys multiple times. Tremendous work, appreciate the knowledge.

This draft seems very interesting with a wild range of players. Seems many clash one way or another on the tiers after the big 4.

Reading through everything, Oliver Moore sounds really interesting to me. How does he compare profile wise to Cooley or Beck? If he's a super charged version of the latter, we could have our center line for the next 10 years.

First try

If Luneau goes early 2nd round....I know, there's a size difference. But still...
Luneau at 50th I wouldn’t say it is early 2nd… he drop off but he 1st round candidate early on, Warren when 42nd and Hutson a 62nd size is a factor, if Morin isn’t actually 6’ he won’t go before mid 2nd round, and might be closer to late 2nd early 3rd, not saying he isn’t worth a early 2nd but we know NHL team aren’t reaching for those player they will reaching for Lamoureux type so there no rush.

Carlsson i pick before Fantilli. Just the size, strength and hands.

Brindley kind of a water bug with hands and jam to him. Good late first pick for us.

Reinbacher could be late first or early 2nd pick for us. Solid right D

I thought Fantilli redeemed himself by the end and I still love his upside as a player due to his combination of size, skating and skill; he just needs to take baby steps instead of doing more than he should. The little concern I have drops him down a spot, allowing Michkov to slide back in to second. Carlsson is in a dead heat with Fantilli, his poise with the puck is hard to ignore.

Also realized I'm a huge fan of Brindley's because he always looks good and seems to be someone who can play any role you want (versus an alternative smaller player like William Whitelaw).

The list will get longer as the season goes on as I ponder other players and watch more hockey.

That's fair, but I don't see the connection to McCarron. McCarron was awful in tight spaces, had zero vision with the puck, and struggled to get his shot off. He was a project and had fourth liner written all over him. All areas that I think Stramel does well.

I wouldn't take Stramel in the 1st and agree with his skating, but he goes to tough spaces and creates space for the guys on his ice. I don't think his hands are important to his game, he'll never be a 30-30 guy who has dangles. He's a shoot first guy. Very North-South game. Simple.

The McCarron pick was one of the most upsetting for me. I wanted Erne, I guess he's not really a game changer anyway, lol.

No Dvorsky in your top 20? Hmm... explain me that!

This is perhaps the most realistic mock draft I’ve seen yet. I think a few of the players like Cristall, Moore and Hrabel are off by a few spots and Dragicevic should be included.

I have them at “flip a coin” right now.
I’m the same. Watched both all tourney. Carlsson has the size and strength and showed a great power game. Really imposed himself at times.
Fantilli, was more physical and I give the edge to him in terms of skating and speed. Still not decided on edge park in comparison. He seems to naturally drive play.
I’d like to see more of them at center rather than wing may help see their full game.

Could see Will Smith going in that 7-9 range as other USDP guys have been more productive lately.

Leonard with a goal and assist vs Michigan after the 1st period tonight.

It's hard to get a read on the USDP guys, because statistically they all look great, better than most other USDP years, but they get very little hype compared to recent years. Maybe because they all have boring names?

Perreault overtaking Smith in goals and points further adds to the confusion.

No Dvorsky in your top 20? Hmm... explain me that!

He'll be in my first round, probably in my next batch of players added, but I'm a little weary of his more limited skill set. Great shot and does a good job moving things on the powerplay, but 5-on-5 I'm really skittish on him due to questionable speed and pace of play, and in a good draft year I can't put him above others who show more promise as NHL regulars. Too unsure about where he'd project in a lineup as is.

This might sound contradictory since someone like Matthew Wood exhibits similar questions about skating and possibly pace, but I look at Wood's hands, frame and puck protection skills and I could see someone who can realistically become a good middle-six complimentary guy.

Dvorsky could go in the top 15 and I wouldn't blink; just not someone I would pick that high if the draft were today.

I'm on the Will Smith at #5 train & I really don't think it's that much of a drop from Fantilli/Carlsson.

Both are more physically developed than he is, but Smith isn't small & has tremendous hands. My only concern was I didn't like his compete level last year, but he stepped that up big time.

U18 team played Michigan tonight & Smith played great. Scored 2 goals in 3rd, one off a quick wrister over goalie's shoulder, has a beautiful release & then a football style goal line scramble that he managed to push/shovel in.

You want to see players score goals in multiple ways. You can't be a one trick pony even in goal scoring.

He's not in NHL next year. I would give him 2 full years NCAA, but at the end of it, I think you get a gifted #1 NHL center.

How do you like him compared to Cooley last year?

How do you like him compared to Cooley last year?

He has better hands than Cooley. Doesn't have Cooley's blistering pace, but he's way more elusive. I would put Smith in the Stutzle/Pettersson category. Not afraid to go one on one, slick hands, for shooting & passing, great vision, quality skating skills, but isn't defined by them, can weave through traffic effortlessly in offensive/neutral zones.

Like Stutzle/Pettersson, he isn't physically developed. Fantilli/Carlsson are bigger, and already pretty physically developed, but Smith has good size. He'll fill out, and get stronger, which should also help his overall skating strength.

Pretty good description of Smith, i agree!

Cooley is definitely a better skater and maybe has a better all around game though but that's about it, it will come with maturity for Smith.

Looking at stats, right now Smith has 52 points in 29 games.
Cooley finished last season with 75 points in 51 games.

And for example, Zegras in his draft year got 87 points in 60 games playing with a better team.
