Thing is, another team might show up, trade some assets to get him extended. Also I dont see any player past the top 5 having close the upside of PLD, guys like Dvorsky, Yager, Sale arent trending well. Maybe Reinbacher can amount to a top pairing defenseman, but thats about it.
Everyone is hyper on Dvorsky, Yager and Sale. Sale and Yager are thrown into new-skills situations. Dvorsky is 6/ 7 months younger vs. Fantilli/Carlsson. None of these guys are supposed to dominate U20. Bedard is a special player, that's what these differences in evaluation highlight more than the value of Dvorsky/Yager/Sale.

Trading anything for Dubois is straight-up certifiable, he can do what he wants. If he's signed, still not worth a top-10 pick for us, it's too soon.

Leo is very strong on his skates and pretty hard to move off the puck, has a strong compact frame, strong stick and solid puck possession skills. Im pretty sure some folks will understand better why I have this kid over Fantilli after the WJC.

..yep..and he seems to have a better vision and IQ than Fantilli as.well.

Carlsson reminds.me Malkin with.his frame.and the way he moves. He is so smooth

Gotta slow down on the fantasy of us winning both the 1st and 2nd overall pick. The chances of that happening are extremely minuscule.

Ottawa had pick 2 and 3 a couple of years, and not only did they not win the lottery, but they also dropped down to 3 and 5.
If we get Bedard or Fantilli I wonder if it is enough to entice a Kane to sign here. Like to surround our youth with quality veterans. Kane with Fantilli and Roy make great 2nd line

For me, Michkov's draft position is going to be the biggest question mark of this draft. I'm curious how much his KHL contract will dissuade certain owners, and how true that rumor about Montreal and Philly intentionally not drafting Russian players is.

Like could it be possible for Bedard/Fantilli/Carlsson to go top 3, then Philly picks 4th and passes on Michkov, leaving him for the team 5th?

Adam Fantilli and Leo Carlsson are extremely good players.

But I still think Bedard and Michkov are in a class of their own.
They are but what make Driseitl and McDavid so good is that they are very different players. One of Mitchkov or Beddard would be great but not joth.

Dvorsky is a smart player. I like him if the Habs pick in the 8-12 range. It would be great to have a line of Slovaks with Slaf and Mesar. 40 years after the Nords had their own Slovak line with the Stastnys.

l've been very high on Dvorsky for over a year now but his skating worries me quite a bit. We've been burned before by prospects with heavy feet. It's more of a technique thing in his case though, a lot of it could probably be fixed.
I also don’t like taking players with skating issues. But he’s a special player with the puck on his stick. The Habs have the added bonus of putting him in a situation where chemistry might help him flourish. Stylistically he fits with Slaf and Mesar, who are both excellent in transition. This on top of them likely all knowing each other since childhood.

Let’s not forget he’s a June birthday. Let’s see how he does in the 2nd half of the season where these players tend to have an upwards trajectory.

Hard to have a good read on Michkov this year, bad injury, mostly VHL games and the ugly geopolitical situation. He wont go top 3 thats for sure, too risky, but could end up top 2 in a re-draft for sure.
The question is how far will he drop? If we somehow get into the top 4 and grab Carlsson. Then Matvei drops to us ill be very happy!!!
